That One Regret: A Small Town Forbidden Romance (The Heartbreak Brothers Next Generation Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 2,824 ratings

That One Regret is a standalone small town age gap romance.

He was her unforgettable one-night stand. She’s the one woman he can’t have.

Grace never meant for the dare to go this far.

Flirt with the hot stranger at the hotel bar? Easy. Spend the night tangled in his arms? Even easier. Walk away without a backward glance? Impossible.

But when morning brings a devastating revelation, Grace has no choice but to leave Michael Devlin behind—without a goodbye.

She thought she’d never see him again. She was wrong.

A year later, Michael is in her small town, and he’s even more maddeningly irresistible.

Older, guarded, and carrying secrets of his own, he makes it clear he’s not staying. But avoiding him in a town like this? Not an option.

Every accidental touch, every heated glance, every stolen moment makes it harder to remember all the reasons he’s off-limits.

Michael knows he should keep his distance. Grace deserves more than he can give her. But every time she looks at him like he hung the moon his resolve shatters.

The temptation is too sweet. The risk too dangerous. Because when their secret comes out, it could destroy everything.

Until her, he thought he could live without love.

GOTTA LOVE GRACE AND MICHAEL!

GOTTA LOVE GRACE AND MICHAEL!
When Grace passed up the opportunity to do something completely out of character with the guy who gave up his cab for her, she didn't expect to see him again. When she encountered him at the bar, she wasn't going to pass it up again. They spent one explosive night together and then exchanged numbers the following day. Only she discovers that her parents know him and so she ghosts him. Turns out she knew him, too, except for the fact that she hasn't seen him since she was a kid. Fast forward a year and Michael is in their small town. They tried to avoid each other, but the chemistry and attraction is far too strong. All that sneaking around was bound to blow up on them, and when everyone finds out, it results in a devastating outcome. The emotions and feelings in this story were palpable. The love between Michael and Grace, Grace and her parents, Michael and his parents, all their extended relatives... truly life in a small town where everybody knows your name and your business. A little bit forbidden, but not really with the age gap that was only evident when Grace made jokes about it. I can't wait to see who's next in the series! I received an advance copy of this book at my request and voluntarily left this review.

Michael and Grace meet by accident and end up hooking up. It is wonderful. But she is 25 and he's 40. The next morning she discovers he's her cousin so they can't be together ever. As a Jewish girl I can tell you that this is nonsense: Jews marry their first cousins and Michael and Grace are step cousins. What's the problem? I skipped to the end and of course there's no problem. 95% of this book is based on a mistake. I can't recommend but the love story is great.

Oh My Goodness. Carrie Elks has done it again. She adds a worthy chapter to this increasingly popular series "Heartbreak Brothers" but this time with a new twist I didn't see coming. The characters I loved now have have children of their own. This book was hard to put down. All the characters were intriguing and she built up each character so you would know them all. I especially loved the character of Michael. I am sure there will be a book in the future about his sister Sabrina and I'm sure she will make it a wild ride. I also really loved her friend Beth, another main character in the book. From the beginning this book grabs you and keeps you wondering what will happen next. Many times storyline left me wondering if this was going to turn out the way I wanted. I was so tempted to go to the back and read the last chapter but luckily like always, I did not give give in to temptation. I read the whole book from beginning to end and realized I would have missed so much, like when Beth's dad came into her house uninvited and decides to walk in and walks up to her bedroom where she has her boyfriend and they are both trying to put on clothes but can't find them. Daddy didn't handle that well even though she is an adult and has only been home a year from spending years living on her own in Paris. This is definitely a book worth the wait and one of the authors best yet.

So I love an age gap romance 😍 . Great small town romance with twists. I wish it hit some emotions a little harder. Wanted more angst. Pretty fast read. Was a little bit of a slow burn, but it helped having both POVS. Spice level was minimal, maybe a 1. spoilers below.

    SPOILERS

Some may be warry of the relation, but let's be honest, I have step cousins that I don't even talk to, and I don't even consider them family. So that information was nothing big for me. So I don't find it taboo. It's interesting how Ethan just fell off the map. Lol. Also, being a small town there most certainly would have been some serious crap that would have happened, but I'm glad it was just a small amount in the book. Although I did get irritated that I had to wait til I was three quarters done with the book to find out his actual age!!! 🙄

I was invested from the first sentence.
    Read it in one sitting.
Grace and Michael meet one night in NY
She discovers the next morning that he's her aunt's stepson and hides, she also changes her number.
A year later they meet again. Hrs come home because his mom is having treatments.
Can they stay away from each other?
What will the family say if, or rather, when, they find out?
My only thing, he didn't grovel enough.
    HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

What a sweet story. I hated it ended before it started but I knew they would find their way back. I thought for sure they would have led back to each other long before he came home. When he did, sparks flew problems developed and it went down hill. So glad they turned this one around.

Grace didn’t think stealing a cab from a man would end up with one of the most amazing nights of her life, or that he would feel the same way.
That was until the next morning, and she worked out who he was, she knew that she needed to move on with her life.
A year later Grace is working for her parents, and Michael has come home because his mother is ill. Michael was surprised to see Grace, until she admits she found out after their night.
They both try to stay away from each other, but they can’t. Deciding that they want to be together is easy, but telling everyone and seeing how their families react and the town is another thing.

I really loved this book. Both Michael and Grace were perfect for each other
I did read Mia and Cam story but was a while back and could not remember Michael. You don’t need to read the previous books to enjoy this one.

Wow the step cousins was a freeling shock. I was laughing my head of and kicking my feet like a school girl 👧 🤣.
The book overall was an okay book and I enjoyed reading it. For me it was a very easy read, book you read when your brains overloaded or in a reading slump.
Is there anything wondering about it? Apart from the one moment at the start of the book where the step-cousins thing happened. Unfortunately not. But it's still a good book to read.

    This one is really good.
Two people meet trying to get in the same cab. Michael lets Grace take it. Later their eyes meet in the hotel bar and they spend the night together. Only to find out they are step cousins.
Its a totally different older man younger woman trope and well worth reading.
