The animals are excited, they’re going on a picnic! James Jellyfish juggles jam jars and Betty Bee butters bread...
These are just two of the amazing animals in The ABC Animal Picnic by author and illustrator Janina Rossiter. Turn the pages of this delightful ABC to find out what happens on the animals’ picnic!
The original hand-drawn illustrations in black ink marker on a background of watercolor alcohol ink art are exquisite and will entice young readers to turn the pages as they discover the fascinating world captured by the illustrator’s imagination.
This delightful ABC book is unique and it uses alliteration to help your child memorise the different sounds of each letter of the alphabet, which is essential for reading and learning a language. Alliteration also makes learning fun! Your child will learn it’s exciting to discover a language and find out that a letter can have different sounds. And by repeating the sounds your child will build up a strong memory of each letter.
The ABC Animal Picnic is suitable as a picture book or a “talk about” book for young children, and also as a reading book, initially for parents to read to their children, then as a self-reading book for older children. The text aims to both amuse and expand your child’s vocabulary.
"Rossiter has redefined how to make learning fun while harnessing the most important tool of all – the power of the imagination. Kids will squeal and giggle with delight while learning their ABCs in this wildly inventive and beautifully illustrated book." ~ Samantha Vérant, author of How to Make a French Family
"Fun and imaginative, this beautiful book is a must-have for kids!" ~ Vicki Lesage, author of Confessions of a Paris Potty Trainer

Review
"The ABC Animal Picnic by Janina Rossiter is aneducational tool to introduce children not only to the alphabet, but italso helps in enhancing their vocabulary. The animal picnic also helpschildren understand that an alphabet can have different sounds and thestory will fascinate them with the creativity and imagination of theauthor. Every page is fun to read and children will love repeating thewords, the alliteration, and the sounds. The author's imagination is onfull display when readers flip through the pages and discover a lot ofnew things while learning the alphabet.
I like the way the author makes learning the alphabet and new words funand interactive. What makes it unique is the manner in which the authorhas introduced the alphabet to readers, which is not what one gets tosee usually. It is a perfect book for parents if they have small kids at home who are going to start school, because it makes learning easy, fun, and interesting. It is a good book for teachers and educators tointroduce the alphabet and new words to children in classrooms, andparents and grandparents can read it out to their children andgrandchildren at bedtime.
It is a great book with some colorful and excellent illustrations thatare eye-catching. Informative and educational books like this are always good for child readers as it helps them not only learn new things, butwill also make them more creative and imaginative. It is definitely amust-have in every school and children's libraries, and in homes."

"My firm belief about picture books is that if the illustrations arecrap, then the book is crap. When I happened across this particularpicture book by Janina Rossiter, I was hopeful to find a real treasure.Well, I didn't.
I found a brilliant masterpiece! The illustrations are incredible, and wonderfully set to a great theme, simple wording, and an excellentlayout. I couldn't be more pleased with this book. Rossiter is atalented artist that creates entertaining and memorable characters fortiny readers to enjoy over and over again. (Even big readers too!)
I smiled the whole time I flipped through the book. Well done!
I give this book a well-earned: 5 stars"

"Those of you who are familiar with the author's [Janina Rossiter] series ofbooks, "Tovi the Penguin," know she has a marvelous way of writing andillustrating books for her young readers; books which capture and holdtheir attention, books which they love to read over and over.
Inthis outing Ms. Rossiter directs her creative attention to an evenyounger audience of readers, those who are just starting to learn theirABCs. Instead of merely doing it in the usual mundane method: A is forApple, B is for Bee, the author creates a party to which ALL the animals are going to.
Starting with the animal's name, who the animalis, and some sort of activity each animal is engaging in; the authoruses a somewhat subliminal repetitive reinforcing technique of what theABC'a are:
Andy Ant Adores Apples
Betty Bee Butters Bread
Carly Crab Cuts Carrots
to use as a few examples, and naturally since no animal's name begins with the letter "X", the party had to be held someplace, so "X" became theparty's location.
The author's illustrations add to the readingenjoyment of the book. This is a book which parents really need to sitdown to read and discuss with their children. For having given parents, a vital tool in educating their children, I'm giving Ms. Rossiter 5 STARS for her efforts."

About the Author
Amazon bestselling author Janina Rossiter loves three things: design, France and her little family.
She studied communication & illustration design at university, and has lived in Germany (her home country), England (where she met her husband), and now France (where she vows to stay). After graduating with a degree from university she worked as a packaging designer for a few years before setting off on her own and expanding into freelance design. She enjoys the creative energy of Paris, where she lives with her English husband and her two daughters.
With the arrival of her first daughter, Janina's love for painting and drawing found a new lease on life and, before long, she combined her passion for illustration with the wonderfully inspiring world of children.
Janina Rossiter author of the children's book series Tovi the Penguin "Tovi is the main character of my children's book series Tovi the Penguin. Tovi the Penguin - goes camping Tovi the Penguin goes away for Christmas Tovi the Penguin - goes to London Tovi the Penguin - goes into Space Tovi the Penguin - goes to to the seaside Tovi the Penguin - goes trick-or-treating and the latest addition to the Tovi series and which was published in early 2017, Tovi the Penguin goes on a treasure hunt in Paris.
My books are essentially about friendship. The penguins go on little adventures together and things don't always go as planned. It gives the young (and older) reader something exciting to explore together, as they look forward to finding out how it all turns out in the end. My main aim is to make the reader smile and enjoy Tovi's story. He is a lovely character and I would like to think that the reader learns something from my books without them being overly educational.
The books are for very young children, between the ages of 2 and 6. They are picture books with a little text.
I hope that you will find pleasure in the Tovi books and if you do enjoy them, please consider leaving an Amazon review, since it helps individuals like me to survive in this big (scary) market."

About the author

Amazon bestselling and multi-award-winning author Janina Rossiter brings her passions together in her work: painting and illustrating children's books.
As an illustrator and author, Janina was inspired to write "Diamonds, Hearts & Sea Stars!" and "123 Who’s Cleaning the Sea?" because of her concern for our environment. School visit reviews:
Janina Rossiter was invited to collaborate with Dulwich College (Singapore) with our Year 2 and Year 4 children, they were in awe of her work which linked well with their learning of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Due to the impact of Covid-19 this was conducted as a virtual artist residency, with video links and presentations. Janina was very thorough with the resources she provided and flexible with the project as it developed. Our children filmed questions to ask which Janina answered with lots of visuals and age appropriate explanations. As a virtual residency it was incredibly successful, the outcomes from the project were really high quality and I couldn't recommend enough working with Janina!
Kathryn Hall, Director of Art & Design Technology, Dulwich College (Singapore)
Janina Rossiter has been invited to speak at the Lennen Bilingual School a number of times over the last few years, with each visit a great success! She is hugely engaged with the children and encourages them to ask questions and think for themselves about the environment. Since her visits, the children have turned into true little eco-warriors and have become determined to protect our planet and the sea creatures from plastic pollution. I would highly recommend Janina Rossiter's author visit for any school that is interested in helping children understand about plastic pollution and how we can all do our bit to help. Her passion for bringing about change and encouraging everyone to make a difference is contagious. Many months after her latest visit the kids are still talking about her! I would recommend her program on plastic pollution to any school.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2018Rossiter has created a charming alphabet book. While some of the animals included will be familiar to most children, there are a few which many children will not recognize like vicuna, numbat, and quoll. The layout is attractive. It includes sketches that each have a highlight color. The alliteration keeps the phrases rolling off the tongue, which makes the book a fun read aloud. Rossiter also includes enough challenging vocabulary to make the book appealing to children already familiar with the alphabet letters. This feature is conducive to siblings of different ages sharing the book.
Highly recommended to parents and teachers of preschoolers and elementary school age children as a fun teaching tool.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2017Stunning illustrations and creativity weaving through the alphabet with diversity and creativity unusual to see in Alphabet books. Letter recognition on each page with the expressed letter in bold and a rythme to each adventure. The back and white illustration are illuminated by the water ink pattern in the background, they give the child many shapes and line patterns to enjoy. With each page and time you go through the book there are so many educational elements to be able to point out. A very creative and inspired book from infancy through early reading, then beyond to early prose memorization for speech to an incredible tool to demonstrate early to mid range sketching skills. This book is best described as brilliant! Many praise to the author, both a wordsmith and a true artist with such dedication to their craft.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 28, 2019The pictures are vivid because of the color splashes. It is neat how every animal covers each letter of the alphabet and also has a name and food to good with each letter as well.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2021A very unique introduction to the alphabet –not sure all the words the author used were real but every word in the description matched the alphabet letter they was showing! My Rating: 5 stars
- Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2019Although this is visually appealing, I believe the vocabulary is odd for the target audience; however this could be considered a teaching opportunity to advance a younger child’s word bank. The choices are a bit of a stretch for the sake of alliteration. I’m a huge alliteration fan so it’s hard for me to not appreciate this text. Overall good book but I will defer my rating to three because of its complexity. Bottom line in writing - don’t loose sight of your target audience.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 8, 2018It is seldom that a really well-written beautifully-illustrated book for children comes my way. I wish you’d had more success with “X”; maybe Xerxes x-rays a Xylophone?
The detail in the drawings is amazing. Thank you for not being “cartoony” with the illustrations. I loaned out my (kindle) copy and am looking forward to getting it back, so I can read it again. I am thinking seriously about getting a print copy as well.
I have recommended this book to my friends, and the local library.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 28, 2018I liked this alphabet book of animals. 4 line verses using the name of an animal are on each page. The names begin with it's first letter and are different colors. Line drawing of the animal are on the opposite page. I found this book a good help in learning the alphabet and making sentences while working with children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wunderschön illustriert und spielerisches Englischlernen

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect for helping children learning to read.
This is a delightful book, perfect for children learning to recognise letters and read. Each letter has an animal doing something relating to that letter. My twins love it. My favourite is James Jellyfish juggling jam jars, though I wouldn't like to say it too often. I will be buying it for the children's school friends.
