The Art of Breathing: A Friends to Lovers Romance Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 256 ratings

An angsty, friends to lovers, boy obsessed, young adult romance from USA Today bestselling author, Cali Melle.

Everyone has that one person in their life they would do anything for.

The one person who can ask for anything and they would give it.

Luna Truly was Oliver Hart’s one.

She asked and he delivered.

One bucket list.

One last summer together.

But as always, between friends, there’s one line and once it’s crossed, there’s no going back…

Luna was living on bottled air and borrowed time.

All she wanted to do was live a typical life—one where she didn't feel like she was a burden.

Everyone treated her like she was a fragile piece of glass, except for one person.

Her best friend, her partner in crime, the boy who she loved for as long as she could remember.

Oliver Hart was the only person who treated her like she wasn’t going to break.

He was the only one who really saw the girl behind the diagnoses.

He breathed life into her and made her feel alive.

Their lives were going in different directions with Oliver leaving for college in the fall.

And it was up to them to make a lifetime of memories with the time they had left together...

It was their last summer before their lives changed forever and neither of them were prepared for what the future might hold.

The Art of Breathing will consume you, addict you and shake you to your very core. But this story ends in a much deserved HEA. Enjoy the journey and rejoice in Oliver and Luna’s everlasting love.

5/5⭐️ 1/5 🌶️ Tropes: - Childhood friends to lovers - Neighbors to lovers - One bed - It’s always been you - He gets a tattoo for her - Soulmates - Bucket list - Disability rep - First love - He would give her the world Quick thoughts: I knew from the start of this book that it was going to get emotional and boy did it. Oliver is the definition of a golden retriever when it comes to Luna, he would literally climb and a ladder and grab every star from the sky if she asked. Lunas ability to be vulnerable and still so positive after a lifetime of dealing with a chronic illness that puts an enormous amount of uncertainty on her life is admirable and Oliver’s ability to see her through every possible obstacle is the most amazing part of their love story. The book has a plot shift but the build up is so integrated that you either catch on or you don’t. I can’t lie when I say I loved reading about Oliver and Luna and watching the grow stronger as a couple over the summer. If you like books that have heartbreaking moments and so much love then Oliver and Luna will definitely steal your heart with their HEA Blurb: One last summer together. One bucket list. I wasn’t sure how much this one was going to hurt.
The story is one of those you go in k owing it could end totally badly. Happily this one had a great ending.

Luna is the sick girl. The one who is living on borrowed time. Trying to live everyday to its fullest while being the light for everyone else. She’s happy but still has her moments.

Oliver is the boy next door. He’s the boy who has always been there and is Luna’s best friend. He’s the kid who wants her to have the world and includes her in it all.

They weren’t meant to fall in love. She’s terrified of breaking his heart…but they did. Oliver has decided that this is the summer he’s going to show Luna what she means. To him, to her family, to anyone who really knows her.

As bucket list items are checked off neither can deny their love any longer. Luna fights for as long as she can and as hard as she can until Oliver shows her what it is to love.

Watching these to fight for a love even at so young was so wonderful to see. I’m not normally a fan of love stores this young but reading this it wasn’t really brought up too much and gave me the nostalgic feeling of A Walk to Remember.

I loved the story and the characters here.

In the end there is a happy ending and a path forward for Luna and Oliver.
This book showed how important it is to love, love hard and with your whole self!

“You wanna know a secret Luna Truly? You’re my most favorite thing ever.”

Luna and Oliver will have you by the heart from the very beginning. This was such an emotional read the story is told from Luna’s POV and honestly I think if I had Olivers POV prior to the Epilogue I would have cried my eyes out.

Luna has a chronic illness and she lives with the mind set she is on borrowed time so she does stay on the side of caution especially with relationships.
Oliver you can see from the first meeting of him he is in love with Luna and her fears don’t let her see it.

With Ollie going to college soon they decide to tackle her bucket list and you just see the love between them.

This is also a story that helps you to see how the average person takes advantage of the little things something as simple as breathing is hard for some.
Absolutely amazing story it is an emotional sweet ride and it is a book I recommend 100% that should be read by everyone.

Side note: If you are a Cali Melle fan there is a cameo from the Cirone Siblings from the Orchid City series.

I enjoyed the storyline between Luna and Ollie. And I loved their friendship. But I wish we had gotten Ollie’s pov. I would have loved to hear his side of things. I also wish there would have been just a little more romance. I would have loved to see them grow more together.

Oh my God this book was just to beautiful & to know the back story of it and how it was written just made it even more special.
I instantly fell in love with Luna and Oliver! They had such a special relationship you could feel their love from every page. The knowledge that was used to explain Luna's illness was brilliant. I loved the bucket list and Olivers way he just made each of them come true for Luna. What a beautiful story it was Cali, well done 💕

I love a friends to lovers story, especially when both characters have been secretly crushing on each other for years but haven’t mustered up the courage to say anything.

I don’t usually go for YA, but I’m completely in love with Cali Melle’s writing, so of course, I had to pick this one up—and I’m so glad I did. Cali did an amazing job with this story; Luna and Oliver drew me in right from the start. Luna is such a strong FMC, and Oliver is the perfect book boyfriend, totally smitten and practically worshiping the ground she walks on.

I loved Luna’s list—even though it’s filled with simple things, they carry so much meaning, and watching her and Oliver tick them off together was so heartwarming.

I wasn’t ready for the emotional rollercoaster this book put me on, but I loved every bit of it. Seeing these two finally find their happy ending was just perfect!
