5 Stars: Loved it! Couldn’t put it down or obsessed about it while needing to get to the end of it. Had to share some bits with my hubby!! Usually read in less than 2 days cause a girl has got to sleep sometime. Will be reading everything this author has to offer and most likely reread the series as next books in the series are released.

4 Stars: Really Good. Whether the story drew me in or a specific character, will definitely continue the series and look into more books by this author.

3 Stars: Enjoyed something about the book, whether it be the storyline or a character but also may have not liked something. Sometimes the book is great but needs some TLC from an editor. May or may not continue the series.

Lottie was doing everything she could to provide for her brother since her mother died, but the bills were piling up, so she decided another job was needed, never expecting to see Lincoln.

After an auction and a proposition from Lincoln, Lottie finds herself married to the only man she loved that broke her heart. Sometimes Lottie can’t help but wonder if she’s reading things wrong and what they have is real, because she knows it’s going to break her when the time is up.
All Lottie wants to do is protect Lincoln, and instead he ends up breaking her heart all over again. Lincoln knows after everything he’s found out that it’s going to take everything he has and then some more to get Lottie back, but he knows there’s no choice he can’t live without her.

Could’ve been good if I liked any of the characters…

Ugh, this was rough. This was a rage read for me. I liked the story and the plot line, and the spice was okay. But I didn’t care for any of these character, save maybe Eric and Lincs mom.

Violet (Lottie) was real high and mighty with her thoughts and words about how much she hated Linc and wished he would leave her alone…..except for every single time he even breathed near her and she melted into a puddle of goo. She had one of the worst cases of BBS I have EVER seen. She let him talk to and treat her like trash, time and time again. She kept saying how she’d never fall for him, and yet she couldn’t keep her hands off of him.

And Linc. This absolute tool bag. He was such a turd, and was awful to Lottie. His treatment of her in the beginning was bad enough, but then to do what he did? Say what he said? Absolutely not. No amount of groveling would have sufficed, not that he did more than cry and mope and write a letter about how hard his life had been to make him a big meanie.

Ugh, okay I’m done. Did not enjoy this, but it was well written and formatted enough to give it 3 instead of the 2 1/2 I really feel.

This is my first book by L. Knight— and now I want to read everything she writes. I’ve been in such a book rut lately and I saw an intriguing TikTok promo about this (even though I never trust those😉) and I thought I’d try it.

Let me tell you- I was sucked in immediately. The writing was fantastic. It was perfectly paced and suspenseful. I really couldn’t put this book down. I loved Lottie but I absolutely hated Lincoln—yet I was still consumed by their story. The chemistry and tension between them was so well done. The emotions were so well written. So many times I cried for Lottie during this book—because Lincoln was A W F U L to her for quite a while. Even after they get married, he still can’t stop himself from hurting her because he wants to protect himself. The sex scenes are emotional and intense between them. You could feel how deeply he’s always loved her, even though he treats her so coldly afterwards. He does eventually treat her like he loves her and wants to be with her forever—but of course he messes that up BIG TIME.

(Possible spoilers ahead)

I know there’s a big backlash against “third act breakups” lately, but actually like them if they’re done well, keep me on the edge of my seat and the grovel is epic. We get all of that here. The agony that Lincoln is in (after he destroys his marriage over a misunderstanding) was utterly delightful!! Because holy heck did he deserve it. I wanted him so suffer so bad and he did. But by the end of this he was literally on his knees crying and begging and it was AWESOME!!!!

Honestly the book was well written, had a good plot and some good but tame spice. What the book lacked was some major groveling. If a man had hurt me the way Linc hurt Lottie, there is no way I could have accepted him back that easily. Lottie is a strong woman who took on the world on her own for her brother, she dealt with all sorts of problems but she basically became a doormat when it came to Linc. Hoping the women in the rest of the series aren't the same.

It was long enough for a complete story with a proper ending that doesn’t leave you hanging. I bought the audiable narration. In my opinion the male narrator did not match the male lead so I wouldn’t recommend buying it. This was a slow burn with a sweet happily ever after.

My heart broke a few times reading this one. A lot of words were said, and actions were made to make a girl tear up. Lottie and Linc went through so much as teens and then again as adults. They were meant to be even at 9 and 6 years of age. Their love is one that will be forever.
