The Brood (Calamity Montana) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 7,356 ratings

A small town, forced proximity, age gap romance from Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author, Devney Perry.

The last thing Wilder Abbott needs is a houseguest. Solitude has been his stoic companion for nearly a decade. He prefers to brood over his mistakes in seclusion. Besides, he gets enough social interaction as a high school science teacher in Calamity, Montana.

But when his oldest friend calls, begging for a favor, Wilder begrudgingly agrees. For the next two months, he’ll give up his guest room to his friend’s little sister.

Iris Monroe isn’t the girl Wilder remembers. Gone is the shy, quiet mouse ten years his junior who always had her nose in a book. Grown-up Iris talks too much and asks too many questions, especially about his past. And her bright smile and clear blue eyes are hard to ignore.

Two months. He just has to survive two months. Except Iris is as nosy as she is beautiful. And his secrets prove hard to hide when she’s living under his roof.

Love me a broody hero!
The Calamity series is just so fun to come back to! The perfect small town series to get lost in! Iris Monroe, an influencer, heads to Calamity, Montana on her next adventure. There she finds herself roommates with the broodiest man around, Wilder Abbott. Her brothers best friend! The dynamic between these two makes for such a fun read! Iris with her colorful tattoos and free spirt just goes so right with the grumpy small town science teacher. I loved the way wilder and Iris get to know each other and learn all the small things that make up who they are. These two are just so special, the way they come together and make each other stronger. I loved the tension, the heat, the romance, a perfect blend!

Wilder Abbott (MMC) is a 35 year old High School science teacher in Calamity, Montana. Wilder likes his quiet and peaceful life and his country living.

His best friend calls in his 15 year old favor that Wilder still owes his best friend and finds himself hosting his best friends younger sister for two months.
He barely remembers Iris Monroe (MFC) who is now a 25 year old, free spirit and travel influencer.

I loved Wilder & Iris’s character’s and how their attraction grows with one another.
    Perfect hea 💕

The tall, handsome, bearded very definition of the title “Brood" is how best to describe him.

Wilder is a high school teacher who lost his wife and retreated to small town Calamity to hide in his grief && in comes Iris Monroe the 25 year old younger sister of his best friend who he owes a favor too && is asking for repayment in full.

Iris has lived her life abroad traveling as an Influencer staying only one place 2 months at a time. She is now bunked up in his spare room along with all the ghosts of his past lurking in the closet…because he's cashing in on that pesky favor.

Sparks fly && let’s just say ill leave it to the pages to tell you how that plays out ....

Back to Calamity, Montana we go with the sixth novel--but seventh overall--in the small-town romance series by the same name penned by Devney Perry. The Brood is a grumpy/sunshine, falling-for-your-best-friend's-sibling romance featuring Wilder Abbott and Iris Monroe. He's a thirty-five-year-old high school science teacher, and she's a twenty-five-year-old social media influencer known for her traveling and staying in locations for two months at a time. She also happens to be Wilder's best friend's sister--the best friend that Wilder owes big time, so when Danny Monroe calls in that favor, there's no way anti-social Wilder can refuse offering up his guest room to Iris for a couple of months. This grown-up version of Iris is nothing like the girl he only met in passing years ago, and he has no idea Danny asked Iris for a favor as well. However, sharing the same space for two months is stoking the flames between them, and it may either spark something extraordinary for Iris and Wilder or engulf them and leave nothing but ashes.

The tatted beauty and the broody loner were far more perfect for each other than what they may have seemed on paper. It was almost as if they were exactly what the other needed at this particular point in their lives. Danny may have hoped that Wilder could advise Iris to get her life in order (or at least what he and their parents considered "order"), and he may have hoped Iris would push Wilder out of his comfort zone; instead being with Iris brought Wilder back to life, and being with Wilder allowed Iris to finally be comfortable in more ways than one. I don't want to get into specifics, mainly because the author chose to not disclose certain details in the book's blurb and I'm going to respect that by not mentioning them either. What I will say is that this age-gap, opposites attract, forced proximity, brother's best friend romance set in the unforgettable Montana town of Calamity had ALL. THE. FEELS. The main characters had rich back stories, making their growth throughout the story all the more worthwhile and that happily-ever-after wonderfully satisfying. The Brood gets five stars, and hope for a return to Calamity!

I loved this book so much!! I loved learning more about Wilder and what happened to his wife. I was so sad for him. And I can totally understand where he is coming from. It's just so heartbreaking that he blamed himself for Amie's death. I was also sad for Iris. She is so nice and honest, and really the breath of fresh air Wilder needed. I think she was very brave to do what she did. I can understand, to a degree, how her family was worried about her at first, but they should have accepted her and her decision after they learned she was serious about it. There is absolutely no reason to treat her and her job the way they do. I'm just so happy Wilder never judged her, like Mary did ugh, and actually listened and tried to understand her and her job.
Their first night together was so hot!! And every time they were together after that. I love how they slowly started falling for each other and how they understand and accept each other. I loved how Sadie and Iris sort of became friends. And omg!!! I had a feeling Sadie had a crush on Wilder. I mean, who wouldn't?! That man is perfect!! And to think Wilder's biggest fear was to have a student crushing on him. I can only imagine how uncomfortable he must have felt. And I was so happy when he finally opened up to Iris about his marriage. And how he told her he hated her conservative outfit because it wasn't her. And how he can be honest and true to himself with Iris, which is something he couldn't do with Amie. I feel sorry for her too. She did not deserve to have that fatal accident.
And I'm so happy he became more comfortable around Larke and is being nice to her. And omg!! I can't believe Sadie and Ryan vandalized the Bronco!!! And I'm so happy Iris put Danny in his place. Who does he think he is?! Ugh!!!! And Wilder made it crystal clear that he is on Iris's side!!! I'm happy Sadie apologized to Iris and said she wanted to be like her. Iris is honestly amazing and I am glad Danny realized it, too. The epilogue was perfect and I'm happy Iris's parents accepted who she is and what she does. I couldn't be happier for her and Wilder!! They got their perfect happy ending!❤️❤️

This is everything!!! Iris & Wilder are my new favourites and I’m so obsessed with this story <3 Age-gap, grumpy sunshine, brother’s best friend, forced proximity, small town perfection!!! I always devour these books but I could just not put this one down, like my kindle was glued to my hand and I didn’t want to miss a single second! The writing is amazing and the pacing and length is just right, but still I could always do with another 100 pages of them <3

I love everything about Iris and about Wilder, individually and together, just such incredible characters. And what a beautiful match - the tension was so thick, the interactions always had me smiling and I was just rooting for them instantly. The grump was grumping and the sunshine was sunshining! Wilder’s brooding, one word answers reluctance was so perfect for Iris’ natural light and joy.

Devney writes the most beautiful couples and this is one of the best examples. The chemistry, the banter, the way Iris can make Wilder smile even when he’s all dark. There is so much instant unspoken respect between Iris and Wilder and I think it acts as the perfect foundation for their connection. They push each other in the best way, unknowingly healing things others broke. And I just loved them !! They’re so stinking cute and the way they develop has me giggling.

Their nicknames ahhhhh! Wilder: Iris? Iris: No. Wilder: Baby? Iris : Yes? Iris is the mood and an icon. I LOVE THEM! And don’t get me started on the soft, caring and protective moments either.

SPICY! SO SPICY! Everybody say thank you Devney because she is keeping us feed! I LOVE when the tension keeps building between 2 characters and then finally spills over and that first scene!! Oof it was so good and hot. These two are so steamy together, their chemistry is insane and the scenes were *chef’s kiss* Wilder with Iris’s shirts!! The Good Girl!! The intimacy threaded through all that passion!! Could not have asked for more. Just perfect.

    5/5 stars. 10/10 just LOVE!

I quite enjoyed Wilder and Iris's story. The best friend's little sister is always a great trope - it has the sense of the forbidden without straying into the taboo and it is also interesting seeing the characters learn new things about the other (especially the it has been a while since they've had contact - like Wilder and Iris. These two had a bit of a slow burn but when they did come together, the chemistry was on fire. I enjoyed seeing Iris finally find a home in Wilder and Calamity - and I'm a little sad this series has come to an end.

It felt good to revisit this series. Iris & Wilder were opposite but somewhat similar. Wilder preferred his solitude and the last thing he needed was his best friends sister moving in with him and disrupting his peace. Or so he thought, because Iris fit so perfectly in his life, that he needed her to stay because he slowly got used to her presence in his life and realised that he couldn't go back to living the way he did, without her. Wilder was quite and reserved but I loved his personality as Iris made his playful side come out. She was truly amazing, free spirited, independent and knew exactly what she wanted. I loved her! As usual the writing was apt, the small town charm was perfect and the last part really made me swoon!
