⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "The main female character is badass...She is not a typical romance heroine- she wears glasses, she quotes nerdy movies, she knows comics, and she can curse like a sailor. Together, the cast of characters reminds us that we each have a small part to play in this world- by being nice to each other and helping out whenever possible."--Sarah, Goodreads Reviewer

5 stars!!!
“I once read that you fell in love like how you fell asleep: slowly at first and then all at once.”
Emma Scott delivers a book that even the hardest of hearts would melt for. As with any Emma Scott book The Butterfly Project is beautifully written, emotionally charged and all about the characters. I love a character driven book and these two grow organically right in front of eyes, page by page. A slow build from strangers to friends to lovers and all that delicious getting to know you stuff in between.
“A story of cause and effect. Of violence, vengeance and redemption, touched with shades of chaos theory. An unapologetic affirmation on the power of forgiveness.”
Sometimes, when two people meet, you just click, and while trusting a stranger, especially one of the opposite sex should be the last thing you do, something tells you that all will be okay and Zelda took that leap of faith with Beckett. Beckett and Zelda were both laden with guilt, they go through the motions day to day without a care for themselves, two empty vessels trying to make it to the end of the day before Groundhog Day starts all over again. Both were too bogged down in the mistakes of their pasts rather than living for the now. It is here that Emma Scott delivers a book of assuaging that guilt, redemption and ultimately forgiveness all the while wrapped around the most natural and stunningly beautiful love stories.
“I recognized the weight of guilt hanging around his neck, because I wore it too.”
Zelda was one of the tattoo artists that worked at Vegas Ink and we first met her in All In. Zelda wanted a fresh start and rather than continue with the tattooing that had become her bread and butter she wanted to pursue her dreams of becoming a graphic novelist which meant relocating to New York. Unfortunately for Zelda, breaking into the world of publishing is not easy and now with hardly any money left, a hostel room and only rejections to her name she is contemplating going back to Vegas with her tail between her legs. Fate though has other ideas and it is when she is at her lowest that she meets Beckett.
“I’m all premise, no pulse.”
Beckett was adorable with a capital A. This man stole my heart from the minute we met on the pages. The more you get to know him, the more you understand him, as Beckett is far from an open book. Beckett bleeds kindness, he would do anything for anyone. You can tell that this comes from the heart, but he made a mistake…once, and it is this mistake that he carries around every single day. He is like a pack horse, laden down with guilt and he struggles to walk, every single day.
“But asking means wondering and considerations and second-guessing, and I just wanted to…have the moment without all the mental noise.”
Both Beckett and Zelda have their own ways of coping with their guilt, Zelda with her graphic novel that avenges her past and Beckett who bleeds his guilt through cathartic letters to the one person he needs forgiveness from the most. With Zelda’s artwork and Beckett’s heartfelt words, this was a match made in heaven, and maybe just maybe this is their new beginning.
“This beautiful man was kissing me and all I ever wanted to do for the rest of my life was kiss him back.”
Emma Scott ruined me, I was so emotionally connected with Zelda and Beckett that I experienced this book through them. So many emotions, so many tears and yet uplifting all the same. When you hit rock bottom, the only way is up and it takes that one special someone to give you the motivation to start the climb.
These two were perfect for each other, the yin to the yang and Emma Scott delivered their story with honesty and authenticity, nothing was sugar coated, you were given the good with the bad but this is one of those books that gives you faith in the human race too. Where one person can save another just by being there, where second chances are warranted and given and people learn from their mistakes. Where a problem shared is definitely a problem halved and when life hands you lemons you make damn lemonade. Heartbreakingly, beautiful story that I cannot wait to read again.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 10, 2024The premise of The Butterfly Project is one of my all-time favorite concepts, and it could easily stand alone as its own story. However, it does follow the events of Full Tilt and All In, and I’ve now discovered there’s another book that continues with another character’s journey. Emma Scott’s masterful character development pulls you in so deeply that you just want to dive into their world, become part of their family or friend group, and never leave. Naturally, I’ll be reading the next installment. While I absolutely adored the story and all its intricate layers, I’d say it didn’t build to a single, grand climax. Instead, it offered a series of slow burns throughout, keeping me hooked in its own unique way.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2017Zelda Rossi leaves Vegas determined to make it in New York City. After a series of unfortunate circumstances, she is about to give up. Until she encounters Beckett Copeland. His heart seems hardened. A heart like hers. One she knows too well. She sees a second chance by becoming his roommate and working towards the reason why she came to NYC to begin with, to vindicate the heavy guilt, she has carried for so many years. Beckett knows more than anyone that there are consequences to actions. But he needs the help with the rent. And that’s why he accepted her roommate proposal. Right? He knows he has nothing to offer Zelda. And he plans to keep it that way.
“I looked at this beautiful, smart, woman sitting beside me, I didn’t deserve a shot at happiness, but she did.”
I am vague on the details as I cannot fathom telling you their story. It sounds better coming from them. And the author writes it as if it were their hearts narrating from beginning to end. Zelda and Beckett form a connection immediately as both recognize something in each other that cannot be put into words. Because the burden they carry is a weight that is felt, not spoken of. The storyline is a unique one. The author’s talent in executing a timeless and incomparable storyline does not go unnoticed as she gifts the literary world with Zelda and Beckett. These two? They are treasures. Simply all the good in this world. I could tell you why, but the author’s words speak to this.
“She’s woven herself into my life, so tightly that if I cut those threads, I’ll unravel. The warmth will seep put, the light will dim until I’m nothing but dark.”
This book is simply every love song. The masterfully executed storyline captured the highs and lows of finding love with a hardened heart. Of learning to not only give love, but most importantly accepting the love you deserve. The words are palpable and unrelenting as the author pushes you to know and understand that love endures the most through the darkest moments. Zelda and Beckett’s past although different, both carry an unfathomable grievance. Heavy. Painful. Neither willing to see a path to forgiveness. Until finding each other. Their humility a testament to second chances and not allowing choices to define you forever. Transcending and monumental, Zelda and Beckett’s love story is boundless. Infinite. Ever lasting. Their love exhilarating. Selfless. Boundless.
“And I realized you could get used to anything- even being alone for years – right until the moment you touched something better than what you had.”
With every single book I am absolutely blown away by the sheer magnitude of talent this author holds. She never writes the same story and with each one, the love always resounds. Her words in this story are stimulating, her prose eloquent and awakening. As I type this review I am completely in my feelings. And not because this was a sad read. But because the story resonated on a level so deep with me that I can hardly put into words. As much as the main characters made the story, there was a side character that I fell completely connected with. Darlene. Her role small, but her impact immeasurable. To the author... this character made some unfortunate choices, yet you treated her with grace, dignity, and respect. She is someone’s daughter, niece, aunt, lover. She was not her choices. Thank you for remembering this. Thank you for making the readers see this. That regardless of what she did, she is a person first. And worthy of love and life. Personally, this was deeply touching to me. That small gesture means more to me that you will ever know.
“I’m falling in love with Zelda Rossi and my imperfect heart wants to think she’s falling for me too.”
What a privilege it is to read this author’s work. I truly believe everyone who reads this book will come away from it looking at life differently. It is the type book that speaks to your heart, but most importantly your soul. Most of all, this book is to and for the lonely, the forgotten. To the people who are casted aside because of your past. You are loved. Worthy to be loved and to love others. This book reminds us that you are not invisible for you exist. And your existence is instrumental to this world. This books reminds us to listen for your voice as you should never go unheard. Because the author? She makes us listen. I hear you. We hear you. Loudly. Clearly. You are not your mistakes. You are so much more than your regrets and deepest flaws. You should never carry the burden alone. And most importantly, you matter. Always.
“I’d go to the end of the earth for her.”
The Butterfly Project is a brilliant and riveting read. The profoundly moving storyline left me breathless. The author’s talent knows no boundaries as she manifests a poignant and inspiring account of the greatest love story you will ever read. One that testifies to her unmatched talent. Unforgettable and bewitching, I’m claiming this as my top read of 2017.

5.0 out of 5 stars Broke my reading slump
I was put in a slump fter reading two horrible supposedly 4.5 star rated novels and fell down a hole wondering if any good books were still out there.
Well let me tell you this just filled my hope meter
Beautiful and heartbreaking love story. The romance and love is delicious and slow. The spice quite nice 👌 🌶🌶🌶
I recommend:)

5.0 out of 5 stars Story of Redemption, Forgiveness and Love
Emma Scott always tackles hard issues but she does it so beautifully, 5/5. Very wholesome love story with HEA. Loved the concept of “Mother May I” too. Highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique storyline with awesome lovable characters
OMG! This book is sooo amazing. I love, love, love it!
Every single book by Emma Scott is a 5* - read for me for no other reason than the quality of the plot and the beauty of the characters and even more so the beauty of Emma's words. You immerse yourself in the story without effort, you always fall in love with hero and heiress and you feel, you love, you suffer as if you were part of the story.
The Butterfly Project is no exception.
You follow the story of Beckett and Zelda, a couple first bound together by pure need of survival in New York City, from being room mates to friends to lovers. With that you know the rough storyline but this story is so much more. It's about guilt and forgiveness, second chances in life and the ability to change, to let go. Both, Beckett and Zelda, struggle with their life and each with an especially negative event in their past. They both work together on a project and by finishing it together they are healing, overcoming fears, opening up to each other and themselves and with that take the risk of love.
Beckett might easily become your new book boyfriend number one. He ist just so lovable... caring, loyal, kind and there is nothing he wouldn't do for Zelda although he has some obstacles to overcome to be by her side when needed. Not only has he a beautiful character but he is also one hot, handsome, sexy guy. He sneaks into your heart without you even knowing. He makes himself at home there, snuggles in and won't leave anymore. Believe me! He creates warmth in your heart and butterflies in your tummy.
The relationship between Beckett and Zelda is best described by himself:
"She's woven herself into my life, so tightly that if I cut those threads, I'll unravel. The warmth will seep out, the light will dim until I'm nothing but dark."
Emma has a way with words... you feel them deep in your soul. She is bleeding her heart out for you. Her writing is on a different level. Spellbinding!
One of the best things in Emma's stories is that her characters are relatable. It's not the thousandth story about a billionaire alpha male or the tattooed guy with the bad boy image. They are the every day guys who struggle with life and although they live an ordinary life, they are always of extraordinary character and / or do extraordinary things.
The Butterfly Project is a must read for everybody who loves gritty characters and stories and loves the slow burn of a truly beautiful love. It's deep and meaningful but not tiresome at all. You can't stop reading also because lots of things are happening around them and their wonderful, troubled but exciting friends.
If you are up for the big feels, the fluffy warmth as well as the exciting, sexy parts, you can't go wrong with this book.
I received an ARC in return for an honest review. (Normally I dont ask for ARCs because there is no worse feeling than to get an advanced copy to review of someone you like and you just dont like the book. It was easy for me to asked for this one because I trust Emma's skills and knew I would love it. As it turns out nearly as much as Rush and Full Tilt - two of my all time favourites)

This book is everything. I felt all the emotions. I don’t even know how to write a review that will do it justice. I can only recommend to take the journey. Thank you very much Emma Scott.
