The perfect daughter

As the clock strikes midnight, one member of our party is found dead at the foot of the grand marble staircase.
Everyone is a suspect. But which one of us is a killer?
This completely addictive psychological thriller from bestselling author Mikayla Davids is packed with chilling twists that will keep you up all night! Perfect for fans of Lucy Foley, Lisa Jewell and Ruth Ware.

About the author

I'll let you into a little secret... Mikayla Davids isn't my real name, it's just the pen name I write under. I could be the person sitting opposite you on the train, furiously tapping away at a laptop, or the woman scribbling in a notebook on the table beside you in Starbucks. Everyone has their secrets. And this is mine.
But I will tell you I've lived and breathed fictional worlds all my life. I've been the child who spent hours in the library, the teenager who stayed up turning pages way into the night. Now I'm the secret writer.
I write psychological thrillers about family dramas, complicated relationships and ordinary moments that can suddenly turn into nightmares.
I hope you've been gripped and entertained by my novels. I'd love to hear from you if so, you can contact me across any of the social media pages linked below. If you'd like to hear more about my books, you can subscribe to my mailing list on my website.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2025The author has a real good grip on showing multiple perspectives on one event. She is absolutely masterful at the emotional motives of any given person at any given time. But sometimes she lets that go to force a plot point. There are some things that just don’t make sense in the second half from a multi narrator first person viewpoint. There are thoughts, for example, that characters must have been thinking that are withheld from the reader in an unrealistic way.
There are also straight up ridiculous errors. In just a single paragraph the mother moves while pregnant a second child while the first is 18 months old but says she has three children to get settled in a new location.

If this has been professionally edited, end though the plot is not that original, this would’ve been a 4 1/2 star summer read.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2024A nice, short, thriller style read for the holidays. I needed a jolt to my reading slump - something that could keep my attention during the busy holidays. This one did the trick. Kept me guessing what was going on and the turns of events were great. Loved the multiple POV as well. Good little Christmas read.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2024LOTS of telling without showing in this story. It was a quick read and there were a few things that surprised me, but overall this read like an idea someone came up with but just didn't really have the writing strength to turn into a compelling story. The characters were universally unlikable and the ending felt extremely rushed. (Also, there were way too many references to everyone's hair color/style -- it really made the writing seem very amateur in a way that's hard for me to explain but iykyk.)
- Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2024I really liked how this book was written. Each chapter offers a perspective from one of the primary characters in the story. Davids kept us guessing, even throwing new details at us toward the very end. So, do we really know all the truth? Highly recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read for Xmas / quick easy read
I chose this book for my book club discussion over the festive holidays and I'm happy to say I finished it in a day because it was such a page-turner. I loved the narration and I'm definitely going to read the second series, especially since I didn't realise it would end on a cliffhanger. However, I would have preferred if there was more time for readers to guess who the murderer was, as it was revealed straight away. It would have been more fun to have some time to assume and guess, like other thriller novels, making it a more engaging read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Murder and Christmas... My kinda story
It didn't take me long to read this book as I was hooked from the beginning. I enjoyed the different perspectives of each character, it helped with the flow of the story. I did guess part of the ending but not completely there were still a few surprises! Overall a good murder mystery set at Christmas... What's not to love about that?!
