The Disaster of Drury Lane Kindle Edition
A lost wager leads to a smoldering night of passion…but when the two men meet in the light of day and have to work together, disaster strikes.
Florizel Holland was born and raised in the Theatre and has spent his entire life surrounded by “colorful” people. His devotion to those people shows not only in his position as stage manager for the Drury Lane Theater and his dedication to its current production, but in the way he gives everything he has to the home for retired actors he helped to establish. But endeavors such as the home need funding, and gambling for high stakes at a club called Perdition is how Flory intends to get them.
But losing himself for the night to a mysterious newcomer to town changes everything…
Librarian Oliver Penhurst has been on the back foot ever since inheriting the title Earl of Headington. His venture into London was supposed to be so that he could learn from his old university friends how to be a nobleman. Patronizing the Drury Lane Theater seemed like a good idea, but when Oliver comes face to face with the man he just spent a wicked night with, Oliver doesn’t know whether to run and hide or to throw himself at the man.
There is more to both Flory and Oliver than meets the eye, and as the two men work together for the good of the show—especially when everything seems to go wrong with the play at the very last minute—they discover that it is the unexpected blessings in life that make it so much fun.
The Disaster of Drury Lane is an MM love story with very steamy bits that take place at The Perdition Club, and it involves masks and disguises, old actors who are young at heart, risks that are worth taking, bad eels, painting catastrophes, and fires both inside and outside.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2023I didn't know that this book would be as humorous as it ended up being - loved it so much :)
The part of the book that dealt with the actual opening night of the play had me crying because I was laughing so much. You'll know what I mean if you read it and come to the character of Will, and you definitely won't regret it.
This book was a fast, light, great read.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2023This was a hilarious tale that was set against the backdrop of the theater. If you've ever watched a play and wondered what went on behind the scenes or to get that show ready for the stage, then you'll enjoy this story. It's also got a budding romance of a taboo nature as well and that lends to the hilarity of the book as well.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2023The Disaster of Drury Lane, the 8th and final book in the Drury Lane world, written by Merry Farmer was a delightful read! This was my first M/M read and I was pleasantly surprised. It was nice to see Flory get a happily ever after, and Oliver was a pure delight! It was wonderful to see the characters from so many of the previous books make an appearance in this book as well! Great conclusion!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2023Flory and Oliver have a night of incredible sex. They think that they will never meet again but fate has other ideas for them. I really enjoyed this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2023'The Disaster of Drury Lane' is the eighth book in the ‘Scandals and Scoundrels’ of Drury Lane. It stars Florizel ‘Flory’ Holland, stage manager, and Earl of Headington, Oliver Penhurst. This is told in third person from both Flory and Oliver’s povs.
I’m not quite sure how to describe this book, but I’ll give it a go. I’ve read a few books by this author, mpreg, contemporary, and now this historical. So far, I’ve enjoyed this author’s writing, with the mpreg stories varying in their quality. The blurb does a good job of describing the plot so I won’t repeat it much. A quick recap, Oliver was a librarian who had the title of Earl passed to him when a distant cousin died. Oliver travels to London to consider sponsoring a theatre with his new found wealth. Turns out the stage manager, Flory, is one and the same man that Oliver spent a wonderous night of passion with at an exclusive men’s club where all sorts of scandalous activities take place. Oliver is shocked and runs away from the theater, but returns to the club, and once again sees Flory. Oliver is drawn to Flory repeatedly. Flory tries to find ways for Oliver to stay with him.
This book isn’t long, only about one hundred and thirty pages with a lot packed into it, but I think it could’ve been longer. Flory’s character had a lot of depth, but I didn’t feel like we really got to know Oliver, probably because he was portrayed as reserved, shying away from people, afraid that others would find out he was gay, and that he didn’t fit in with the ‘nobs. Oliver doesn’t even want to be an earl. I wanted to know more on how Oliver helps with Flory’s mother’s house, if she gets better, and how Oliver and Flory’s relationship progresses since Oliver’s main residence is far from London. But readers instead, are left dangling at the end of the book even though Oliver and Flory seem to have a HFN.
Flory is an extrovert. He comes across as a Marty Stu, but later in the story we’re shown that he does experience sadness, especially concerning his mother and the older stage actors, but he chooses to be cheerful and help as much as he can. I would say he was a player before he met Oliver, and Flory wasn’t ashamed of it. Their relationship moved along quite quickly. Flory was attracted by Oliver’s looks, his resistance and uptightness, taking it as a challenge to break through Oliver’s walls and find out how Oliver was in bed. It was a game to Flory when he started, literally at a card game, betting himself if he lost, because he wanted to get Oliver into bed. Of course, Oliver won and Flory eagerly dragged an apprehensive Oliver to an empty room. From that point, Flory was smitten. Oliver was always withdrawn and quiet in public, literally hiding in the corner or shadows. He only came alive when with Flory, either in bed, or at Flory’s mother’s home, or helping at the theater on opening night, which I’ll get too next. I wish we got to see more of their relationship as it grew, but we didn’t. Flory is the one who drove their relationship enough for Oliver to begin to feel comfortable and believe in them. I could believe in Oliver and Flory as a couple but am unsure of the logistics on how it would work.
There is one scene in the book that is hilarious. The disaster at the theater was just that. I wanted to laugh aloud the whole time I read it, but I couldn’t because I was out in public. The scene was so engrossing and detailed, I don’t think I could’ve stopped laughing if I’d started reading it straight through. I had to put the book down multiple times just so I wouldn’t burst out with laughter. The author did an excellent job writing that scene. It’s worth reading the book just for that part.
Overall, I enjoyed 'The Disaster of Drury Lane' even though it felt too short to me. It would’ve been better if there were more details about Oliver and Flory’s relationship and the mother’s home. I recommend this book to others; however, I won’t be reading other books in this series because I think they’re all M/F stories or at least most of them are. That’s too bad, because this book was good, if not too short. I give this, 4 Stars.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2023Theater kid Flory bets himself as the prize to a shy newcomer at the men's club called Perdition. Oliver, a newly inherited earl, is out of his element being in London, a new earl, at a men's club and gay. He literally doesn't know what to do with himself. But Flory knows he can break through the man's shell of shyness with a little bit of love.
While I love Merry Farmer's books and even her novellas I feel have depth to them, this one left me hanging. There really isn't any depth to this one, the characters are shallow and we don't get to know them much at all. The entire story is very short and happens fast. I felt like Oliver was just the shy kid being led around by extrovert Flory. He didn't really have a say in anything and not much dialogue. Flory stole the show in this story.
This is a part of a multi-author series involving the Drury Lane theater so it was short on purpose. But I felt it needed just a tad bit more relationship building and character depth.
Loved the theater scene which you can tell is Farmer's forte given her background in theater studies.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2023I am a big fan of Merry Farmer’s books in the different genres, and this one was as good as her others. Flory is so upbeat and flirty, finding the positive side of things, living his life to the full. Poor Oliver is really out of his element, shy and retiring, a fish out of water in his new role as an earl, totally lost in London until he finds the Perdition Club. Here he meets Flory, wins him in a wager, and finds the man to capture his heart. The section on the play was hilarious, I laughed all the way through, with vivid pictures in my mind of all the disasters which befell cast and crew. Sweet HEA for these two after a couple of bumpy starts. Great world building of life backstage, drawing the reader in and educating and entertaining at the same time. A short but very enjoyable read for a rainy windy afternoon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Story.
As usual with Merry we get a gorgeous m/m romance with a big splash of intrigue and angst. This is part of a series but I didn't read the others, they are all f/m romances and I am not into that at all, I love my men. Here we have unreserved Flory and nervous Oliver, Flory runs a theatre while Oliver has unexpectantly inherited an Earldom. This is a truly sexy, fun read, especially close to the end which had me both gasping and giggling.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Flory and Oliver story
When Oliver arrived in London he meets Flory but don't know who each other is until they meet again at the theatre
