The Dock Girl's Shame: A gritty, emotional saga from AnneMarie Brear (The Waterfront Women Book 2) Kindle Edition
A historical saga from TOP 50 bestselling author AnneMarie Brear. A gripping, emotional tale of love, betrayal and a daughter's duty...
A broken heart, a shameful secret…
Wakefield, Yorkshire 1871
Loretta Chambers has spent her life working at her father’s boatyard down at the docks. She’s tried hard to keep the business afloat, but with the railways taking trade away every day, Lorrie fears for the worst.
The arrival of handsome Italian, Matteo Falcone brings a brief glimmer of hope and a yearning inside Lorrie for another life, away from the filthy grime of the dockside. But despite her feelings for Matteo, she could never travel to Italy with him, and leave her father alone.
But one reckless, impetuous moment leaves Lorrie with a secret she will struggle to hide. And when tragedy strikes at the boatyard, Lorrie is left feeling more alone than ever before.
Always a dutiful daughter, Lorrie now carries a shame that could ruin her life forever…
A heartwrenching and emotional tale of courage and lost love, perfect for fans of Dilly Court, Rosie Goodwin and Rita Bradshaw.

About the author
"Poignant, powerful and searingly emotional, AnneMarie Brear stands shoulder to shoulder with the finest works by some of the genre’s greatest writers such as Catherine Cookson, Audrey Howard and Rosamunde Pilcher." Amazon reviewer.
An award winning and Amazon UK best seller, Australian born AnneMarie Brear writes historical novels and modern romances and sometimes the odd short story, too. She has a love of old country houses, travelling, chocolate (except dark chocolate - not a fan), researching historical eras and looking for inspiration for her next book.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 4, 2024Love how the writer puts you in thick of life of a family of two. He repairing boats and she manages the office. Their ups and downs are interesting to read. Life goes on ready or not.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 24, 2024If you like a clean romance with a good plot this book may. be worth your time. Go ahead and relax.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2024Amazing! I think I enjoyed this one better than the first book. I will say I only gave 4 and not 5 stars just because I’m being petty and wanted more at the end. I feel like it ended a little too abruptly for me. I just wanted more but either way it was a great read!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 28, 2024This book had me as soon as I started it. I couldn’t put it down. I read it in one day. Maybe 2 days considering it’s 4:15 a.m. and I just finished. It had all kinds of emotions going in me. Happy, sad, angry and in tears. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, I found out I was wrong again.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2024Loretta loved working with her father at the docks. But everything changed when her father made a deal with Oswald Lynch. Trouble soon followed.
Loretta made a mistake which led to shame and guilt. Can she ever show her face again?
Great characters. I loved Jonas Bannerman. He was a genuine, caring man. Does Loretta even see what is in front of her?
I had a horrible time reading about how some people in her community treated Loretta after her secret was leaked. Even one of her closest friends was very judgemental. How times have changed.
This is the second book of The Waterfront Women series. I've read both. This could be a stand alone book.
I enjoyed the story and look forward to the next book. Thank you Boldwood for giving me the opportunity to read this.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2024This book is just too much reading for a simple story, just wanted to hurry up and finish, which I did not care to do.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2024I read a couple of her novels that were a good story. I can understand why she’s not a more well-known author. There are some issues with her plot lines. I started a third book of hers and I couldn’t even get past the fifth chapter. Her heroin is just so stupid that I couldn’t even bear to read more. I think it seems that she tries very hard to write a very strong, independent female, but is so lacking in so many ways.
