Louis, Her Knight in Shining Armor (The Duke's Brothers Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 18 ratings

Cutthroats and assassins. Damsels in distress. When danger leaves its calling card at a duke’s manor, will it awaken romance?

England, 1817. Lady Eliza Scott is in desperate need. With her brother dead under mysterious circumstances, the brave spinster takes her young niece and seeks refuge with one of her sibling’s oldest friends. And when the self-effacing twenty-year-old discovers the handsome stranger is nothing more than a ton flirt, she doubts his gorgeous grin will be enough to stave off trouble.

Louis Evans loathes responsibility. Still haunted by a traumatic childhood accident, the Marquess of Downsville is certain that trying to protect the black-haired beauty will only lead to catastrophe. But after his conscience intervenes, the blue-eyed bachelor ends up in tantalizingly close quarters with the fierce female.

Appalled when her wary protector is ambushed and badly beaten, Eliza’s guilt whispers that she should flee their temporary haven. And as Louis’s attachment to his alluring guest grows deeper, his difficulty expressing emotion leads to a terrible misunderstanding.

Can they conquer their fears and trust love to last?

Louis, Her Knight in Shining Armor is the thrilling first book in The Duke’s Brothers Regency romance series. If you like protective heroes, tense action, and mysteries laced with desire, then you’ll adore Louise Behiel’s perilous passions.

Top review from the United States

Reviewed in the United States on November 11, 2023
Author has little sense of period. Within in the first few pages the hero refers to himself as a "bad boy." He is the second son of a duke and brother to the current duke, whose wife has just given birth to the ducal
heir. Our hero's title is therefore Lord Louis (not Lord Evans), and even if as heir presumptive he has held the courtesy title of Marquis, that title would immediately devolve on his nephew. In addition, the author has a terrible grasp of verb tense and mood and apparently doesn't understand use of the past perfect tense. Finally, incrediby boring writing style and plotting. Didn't make it past Chapter 3. Hint: always be suspicious of a book with multiple five-star reviews but no commentary! Price is right, however.
