About the author

L.A. Frederick hails from sunny old England. Wait. That’s not right. L.A. Frederick hails from old England. Better.
An avid reader from a young age he vividly remembers being drawn into the fabulous world of fiction by the timeless works of Roald Dahl, in particular The Fantastic Mr Fox.
The escapism of fictional worlds is what led him, after a long and winding road through university and various jobs, to the craft of writing.
So when he’s not juggling the million items that day-to-day family life throws at all of us he’s either reading or honing his writing.
His debut series, The Mutant Rain and Mutant Rain Origins are dark, sci-fi mysteries with dystopian elements thrown in for good measure. “A cool cross between X-Men and Sin City.” As one reader describes the series.
Presently he is working on Songs of Star & Winter, a space opera fantasy, he describes as a cross between Game of Thrones, Star Wars and Captain Bucky O’Hare. Though he fears the reference to an early 90s cartoon series is showing his age…

- Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2021This book is full of mysterious characters! It also gave me some major "Wayward Pines" vibes. The deranged doctor Zhirkov reminds me of the doctor in Wayward Pines but even more crazy. Also, I was reminded of Voldermort (back when he was Tom Riddle) and Dumbledore came to the orphanage to take him away from that place. I really liked this book. It was the perfect balance of gore, mystery and action. Loved it.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 24, 2021This book is best for the thriller category. The people who love adventure and imagination will love this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 11, 2019Having found safety with a meager number of other survivors from New Hampton in an underground hideaway dubbed “The Bunker,” the mutants Connor, Reinhardt, Isaac, and Benjamin decide that their small number will be no match for the hordes of zombies or Dr. Zhirkov’s people. One after the other leaves to find more survivors and more mutants to supplement the group.
When they fail to return after 2 days, Aurora and Evaline head to New Hampton to find them leaving behind the weakest of the survivors and, unknown to them, one of Dr. Zhirkov’s secret moles. In the city, they meet up with a small group of survivors led by Detective Benjamin Farrow, Aurora’s former partner on the police force.
Integral to “The Fall” is the revelation of Dr. Zhirkov’s back story and that of his men, Vitaliy, Dmitri, and Victor. Readers get a much fuller picture of what Dr. Zhirkov is about and a better understanding of the extent of the mutation that is occurring throughout the world.
“The Fall” continues the highly imaginative and entertaining tale by L.A. Frederick which began in “The Rain.” Part horror, mystery, AND romance, it is a dystopian story that’s got everything. However, I recommend readers begin with “The Rain (The Mutant Rain #1)” as well as the “Mutant Origins” short stories before tackling “The Fall.”

- Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2020I discovered this author on social media and decided to read book one. I loved it. So well done, well written.
I love dystopian stories with magic or in this case mutants and best of all, evil scientist doctors! Love me a madman story.
This book and first two books, are on the slightly darker side, it has suspense, thrill and a great plot and most importantly, great character development.
I definitely recommend this book! I'm now going to head on over to book 3. What a fantastic read.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2019The Fall is the second book in The Mutant Rain series.
It’s a dystopian mystery horror with mutant survivors hiding away in a bunker from a crazed doctor and his zombie-like hordes. There are other mutated creatures the mutant survivors need to avoid in order to gather resources and more allies, all in order to combat this evil doctor and his twisted vision of the future. A world gone mad!
It’s difficult to describe the Mutant Rain stories. It’s better to experience them.
There’s plenty of everything for everyone in these tales, be it horror, mystery, science fiction and even some romance.
One large part of the stories is simply who can you trust?
This was fascinating reading for me.
I recommend it to anyone who enjoys these genres.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2019The Fall should be on the best- seller list on Amazon under Horror/ Dystopian by now. The word needs to get out there that this is the second book following The Rain. Mutants hiding from a insane doctor and his zombie -like horrors is enough to make you read while keeping the lights on all night long ! There's not much beauty left in this world but watch out for the butterflies- they're carnivorous ! I found myself praying that some of the mutants would make their way back.with survivors .
There is a little of everything offered to the reader - horror, suspense, mystery, romance all among vampires , zombies super mutants and danger in everything that you may think hold hope. A fascinating read !

5.0 out of 5 stars "Rain ruled, a deluge consumed New Hampton ...
...while the people devoured each other. "
New Hampton is destroyed, and only an handful of still human survivors are hiding in the underground tunnels. The rain continues to fall. The rain is the key. Outside, the zombie like once human creatures are hungry. Only the experimental survivors created by Doctor Zharkov might hold out hope, but they have their own agendas, as bright as the new colours of their skins.
The Fall moves between St.Petersburg of 1897 and late twentieth century New Hampton, cleverly switching between the point of view of the various protagonist including Alexander Zharkov himself, Connor, Isaac and Benjamin Farrow. 'Drama, passion, lust. A power struggle,' this story is truly bizarre, as are it's predecessor, The Rain, and the small handful of short stories which also accompany it, each detailing a single cbaracter. A totally unmissable series.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Great Story Continues!
After being a fan of the first book in the series 'The Rain', the long wait for 'The Fall' was certainly worth it!
Another great page turner from L.A. Frederick! Finished it in a week.

3.0 out of 5 stars Can be difficult to read at times
The story was interesting and different to what normally read but what made it difficult to read was the some story repeating with other characters in the same scene I know that it was there point off view but the writer used the same words each time with different characters so some times you read the same thing 2 or 3 time it felt like filler rather than improving the story

5.0 out of 5 stars A sequel that doesn’t disappoint!
This second installment in the Mutant Rain series was worth the wait. Great follow on from the first and I really enjoy the author’s style of writing. Already looking forward to the next one.
