The Fangirl and the Grump: Fangirls of Evening Shade Book 1 Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 351 ratings

It takes a special kind of person to get dumped and fired on the same day. Yep. It’s me. I’m the special one.

When my life takes such a spectacular turn for the worse, my three best friends know the perfect way to cheer me up––a weekend trip to Evening Shade, Oregon.

The movies that shaped my teen years put the quaint little town on the map, making it a tourist destination for werewolf-loving fangirls who want the full movie experience. And I’m most definitely a card-holding member of that eccentric fandom, even though my friends are decidedly
not.

After copious amounts of alcohol that lead to the revelation of the worst kind of betrayal, I kick my backstabbing ex-best friends out and decide to stay in Evening Shade for the rest of the summer. I have nothing to go back to, so why not?

Enter my new landlord, Trace Bardin, a man thirteen years my senior and the spitting image of
Wolf Daddy from—you guessed it—my favorite movie. The downside? Trace hates the comparison, and I make the colossal mistake of howling at him the first time I laid eyes on him. Don’t judge. I was kind of drunk at the time.

But if we can get past my little faux-pas
and his conviction that I’m far too young for him, we could have the summer of our lives. Then I’ll go back to Seattle, pick up the broken pieces of my life, and move on.

Sounds like a solid plan, right?
Right.

Piper James lives in Idaho with her husband, two teenage sons, three cats, and a dog.

Her favorite things are romance novels, coffee, potato chips, and her Jeep Wrangler…and her family, of course. Seriously. She loves her family more than coffee and her jeep. *exaggerated wink*

When she’s not writing, she watches ghost shows and spends most of her time trying to convince her family their house is haunted. Because it is.

She wrote YA paranormal romance for 6 years under the name Wendi Wilson before giving into her desire to write spicy romcoms, and it was the best career decision she’s ever made…until she decides to write a book about the ghosts. Because they are definitely real.

Silly, joyful, grumpy and sexy. Tackles challenges with (mostly) good communication and the occasional bird flipping as required. Contains lovely true friends and people ditching toxicity for joy. A fun read!

grumpy sunshine ave gap romance with characters that aren't 18! that alone is nice. The story is cute, although it could have used a little more depth on the outgoing characters so I could hate them more

This is a cute first story in a new series by James. She writes likable characters and a fun storyline set in small town Oregon. Keegan and Trace have good chemistry and some nice dialogue. James sets the stage for future books with Pressley and Willow.

Keegan & Trace were a very cute couple because of the whole grumpy/ sunshine vibe.

I felt bad for what happened to Keegan with her ex-boyfriend & her ex friends. But coming to Evening Shade was such a good thing for her.

Not only did she make friends with Willow, who I loved so much, but she also found herself & found Trace too.

Their relationship was so sweet I just wanted more out of them lol

    Great story! Highly recommend!

I received an ARC and was not disappointed!! With a little bit of everything -humor, feels, spice- this book is everything I always expect from Piper James. I love that friendship takes a main role in the story and the main character finds the love she's always looked for in those friendships. It's a story for those who loved to imagine what it would be like to live out their wildest fangirl fantasies.

"This is what friendship should feel like. Honest. Unconditional. Generous. And I swear, I’ll be that kind of friend to Willow in return. It’s the least I can do to pay her back for all her kindness."

"What is it about her? She’s the lighthouse beacon I never knew I needed. Do I really want to disappear back into the fog?"

"Now is the time for absolute love, to show her how precious she is to me. To reassure her that I’ll never leave her again, and if she tries to flee, I’ll chase her to the ends of the earth like the werewolves she loves so much would their own mates."

I LOVED this book! Keegan is soooo relatable and Trace is my daddy dreams wrapped up in a cranky man! Yummy! Now I should say I love a third act break up scene! The drama!!! Piper put us through it with this one!!

Romance level: open door. Lust before love. Lust and desire at first site and open door on first date. Spanking.

    No paranormal activity.

Friendship between Keegan and Willow seems to fall apart.

This is the second book I've read by this author and it really hit the spot. Fun light quick read with just the right amount of all the feels.

4.0 out of 5 stars I enjoyed the book… with reservations.

I wasn’t too happy with the inebriation, and the ‘hooks’ were a bit obvious. Now that last statement is a bit two faced of me. I want to know how things work out for the other (possible ) protagonists, but I didn’t need or like heavy hints. That said, there was some laughter involved whilst I was reading The Fan Girl and the Grump, and I intend to read book two.

Fan girl and the grump is a fun and entertaining story that had me cheering for the main characters.

I loved the commodity between the two and the side characters supported them beautifully.
