The Highland Raven: A Gripping Scottish Family Saga from World War 2 (A Resistance Girl Novel Book 5) Kindle Edition
Inspired by the real stories of the female SOE agents in France, ‘The Highland Raven’, book 5 in ‘The Resistance Girl Series’ is a gripping WW2 tale of redemption, revenge, and the enduring power of friendship.
Scotland, 1939
From fallen socialite to fearless SOE agent, Sable Montgomery's transformation is nothing short of extraordinary.
Scarred by a haunting past, Sable seeks a fresh start. Her path diverts from a marriage proposal to a Swiss finishing school, where she doesn’t make herself popular among the other “resistance girls”, classmates Lili, Océane, Esther, Edda and Anna.
Back in London, a encounter with the now secret agent recruiter Anna propels Sable into a new life and love. Under the mentorship of William "Wild Bill" Mitchell, the Scotsman who trains SOE agents, Sable discovers her inner strength.
But when her arch-nemesis, ruthless Gestapo leader Joachim Von Henkell, resurfaces, Sable's resolve is tested. With unwavering determination, she becomes one of Churchill's finest secret agents.
As the war ends, Sable harbors one fervent wish – to reunite with the girl she left behind.
Sable’s relentless fight against the Nazis becomes both a blessing and a curse, making this a riveting and evocative novel that will capture your heart.

"Lest we Forget". | Shows a different side to the WW2 story, events immediately after the end of the war. The narrative is intense & gruelling. | Brings to a close the stories of the remarkable Resistance Girls. They reinforce the dream of lasting peace and no more war. |

About the author

Hannah Byron is an acclaimed author of historical fiction centered on WWII resistance women. Born in Paris in the mid-1950s to a British mother and a Dutch father, she grew up with strong ties to France, the UK, and Holland, which continue to inspire her work. Most of her novels are set in Western Europe, where history and culture run deep.
After decades of balancing life as a mother, university professor, and translator, Hannah is now a full-time author. She writes passionate novels about resistance and romance set in the 20th century—topics close to her heart. Readers often describe Byron’s work as gripping, deeply emotional, and impossible to put down.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 9, 2024Everyone of Hannah Byron’s books have been spell blinding for me! This series is so captivating! I love the historical value as well as the intricacies of the story! The original characters interaction with each other also brings another aspect to the series! I will hate to finish that last book!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 27, 2024I loved this book and the spunky sable. She was a force to be reckoned with. I was so impressed with her tenacity and her hard work and her stick toittiveness that enabled her to accomplish all that she did
- Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2024I’ve been enjoying the resistances girls series. It’s best to start with book 1. Sable’s redemption story really resonates with me.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2024I just can't get enough of the resistance girl! Of all of them, Sable's story is the one that touched my heart the most. I do recommend reading the books in order, only because I am a fan of order. However, I started with book six and had no difficulty reading it out of order... Except, I totally had to buy all the books. I completely recommend this book!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2024I have read the first 5 books in this series, and throughly enjoyed them. I'm looking forward to volume 6. The àuthur makes me feel like I'm experiencing her stories while reading them.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 29, 2023Couldn’t put the book down! The author is incredibly talented with putting you right there in the story with the characters. Loved the twists and unexpected turns.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2022The narrative was a roller-coaster of a ride from pre-WWII Scotland, where Lady Sable Montgomery is kept restricted in her family manor home, along with her Nazi-loving mother, to a finishing school in Switzerland, to a career with the SOE, behind enemy lines in France. Much adventure, peril, backdrop of Dunkirk, all the way to D-day and how Sable was involved. I confess I did not like her condescending, upper-class character for the first several chapters, but as the book goes on, Sable evolves into a much more likeable and honorable character. Her lifetime friendship with Freddie is sweet and supports her development. Lovely book set before, during and slightly after WWII.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2022When I began reading this book I was disappointed. Didn't like any of the characters and almost decided to set it aside. But because I have read several of Byron's and loved them I decided to read a few more chapters to see if it got better. I am so glad I did.
This turned out to be one of the best WW2 books that I've read. Both male and female readers will definitely enjoy reading this book.
