BY: SRIVALLI REKHA
This was such a hauntingly great short story, that I loved immensely. It has all the elements of a spooky ghost story. It's a compulsive and addictive reading experience as the reader is drawn into this story at the very beginning. It draws you in, and doesn't let you go until the final chilling epilogue.
Timothy and his wife Rose go to an extravagant house, and are promised each $100,000.00 dollars if they accept a job entertaining a fifteen year old sickly girl named Frankie. I don't want to spoil the enjoyment of others, by saying too much more. Everything is not as it seems at first. Please do yourself a favor, and get a copy of this chiller of a story. I can guarantee you that you will be happy that you did. I already mentioned that it can be read quickly, and will leave you pleading for more. Enjoy! Five+++ Stars!
Read this delightfully chiller of great storytelling by the very talented author Srivalli Rekha. It doesn't take more than a short amount of time to finish it. I wish that it was longer as I was enjoying it so much I was sad when it ended. "The House of Justice," will be a favorite of mine that is Unforgettable in its uniqueness. Who is haunted? Is it the house that can possibly dole out justice, or is it its inhabitants that are haunted, with power?
Please do yourself a favor and pick up this chiller of a story. As I mentioned it is a quick read and I guarantee you that you will love it and find it charming. Enjoy!
Five+++Stars!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 23, 2024Format: KindleI discovered this one not too long ago while trolling the home page of GR friend, Srivalli. Not only am I fond of the author, but I was very curious how this avid reader of sweet, cozy mysteries and adorable children’s books, would accomplish a scary story in a creepy house. Very well, indeed!!! Although, I shouldn’t be surprised, her love of cozies and children’s books aside, Srivalli has an eclectic body of work that even includes some poetry along with some horror stories. Reminds me of a saying about writers that I so often hear, “a good writer can write anything”. I do believe there’s a lot of truth to that.
The book summary lays out the whole storyline so I’m not going to repeat any of that here. What the book summary doesn’t say is that from the get-go, Rose is creeped out by the house and its occupants. Srivalli did well in provoking those feelings in not only Rose, but in myself as well. At 28pgs, the end comes fast in a scary yet very surprising and satisfying conclusion. Oh, if only there was a real House of Justice that would right the wrongs that go unpunished. Or is there? Moral of the story: Karma is a bitch. This is a really short story on KU that can be read in less than an hour.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseCharles Bukowski once famously exclaimed. "the less i needed, the better I felt". I am sure this was not in relation to Whiskey since the author could not have enough of the drink. Many of the most enduring and endearing things are those that imbibe the virtue of simplicity. Srivalli Rekha's book epitomises this very precise quality. The story of a pair of amateurish magicians who also happen to be a couple, engaged to entertain a sick girl, for a few days in a vast mansion, in consideration for a hundred thousand dollars each, sounds like a piece of cake. But when the mansion takes on a life of its own and begins interacting with and intimidating the magicians, they know something is really not right. Would they be able to extricate themselves out of this self inflicted tangle? Only time will tell.....

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI read this short story in a single sitting. It's well written and hooks you until the end. The horror genre is not easy to write but this one does full justice to it. The title is apt too. A must read for a quick dose of adrenaline!
