The Imperfect Proposal: A second chance, secret marriage romance. (The English Gent Romances Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 269 ratings

Being caught in a cupboard in a compromising position with my latest hook up by my new colleague isn’t a great introduction.

The worse thing, that new colleague - she’s my estranged wife who’s been MIA for more than a decade.

Throw in the fact that neither of our families knew we were married in the first place and it’s safe to say, events maybe aren’t going as smoothly as planned.

Thea and I married ten years ago in Vegas, the day we both qualified as doctors. I knew plenty about her: the way she kissed, how she liked her coffee and the best way to make her see stars.
What I didn’t know was that she was the daughter of a Lord, was ridiculously wealthy and she’d signed up to Doctors Without Borders.

The morning after our wedding, she was gone.

For a decade, all I’ve had are postcards, sent to wherever I’ve been working, with no return address. Those, and a heart that no matter how good a doctor I am, I just can’t fix.

Now Thea’s back in London.
And she wants to be back in my bed.

Our first proposal wasn’t perfect. Would the second lead to the same fate?

The proposal may have been imperfect the marriage up to this point as well, but I don't think this book could possibly be any better! Shay and Thea are a mess how could they not be, married in Vegas then Thea leaves, neither has a chance to process things. Now ten years later she's back. The emotions, the turmoil, so much to work through but the passion and spark can they come full circle? Annie Dyer did an amazing job bringing this series full circle. I have voluntarily left this review.

My heart! Shay made me hurt for him. Thea led him up and down and he loved her through everything. Every woman needs a Shay. Thea isn’t a bad person, but trying to do what she needed for herself, she hurt Shay a lot thru the years and those postcards made me cry. My son was in Iraq as a medic and he described the horrors of the medical tents and thinking of ten years of living in those circumstances just made me cry for her. I was just thrilled they could come back from all the years apart, the other lovers, the circumstances, because in the end, I truly believe this book made me believe in love above all. It was such a beautiful read. ❤️

I was so excited to finally read Shay's story! I knew there were layers to Shay and that he went through something painful years ago. Shay has been holding himself back some though he's done a great job working as a dr and staying busy with the ladies and his Callaghan cousins. Turns out 10 years ago Shay married Thea in Vegas but then the next day she left. She would send Shay postcards but that was all. Things changed when she got a post working at the same hospital he works at. I loved their banter as they work through what happened in the past. I even cried some tears at the end. I am so excited for Puffin Bay now.

Dr. Shay Green isn’t one for a serious relationship but that doesn’t mean you won’t find him missing around in one of the rooms, that is until his wife walks through the door.

Thea is also a doctor but left town the morning after her wedding to go overseas and volunteer with Doctors Without Borders. She has written Shay letters for the past 10 years but now she is back looking for a second chance.

Can Thea convince Shay to give their marriage a real chance when there are only a couple of people who even knew they got married in the first place?

This was a good book on second chances and really deciding what is most important in your life.

I hadn’t read any of the other books in this series so I wasn’t familiar with any of the other characters. I think that was ok for the story but I think I did miss some previous character development.

I liked Shea and knew why he hadn’t stayed “true” to his marriage and I didn’t really consider it cheating given that his wife was MIA immediately and he really had no clue on where she was. That being said none of his other “flings” lasted very long as he knew he still had feelings for Thea but didn’t know if she would ever come back.

I got that Thea had already made arrangements to join Doctors without Borders but at the same time I was very disappointed that she left Shea without a word or given him a chance to join her or make some sort of other arrangements. I was also a little surprised that she did want a second chance in the marriage given that she was almost afraid to return and was gone for 10 years.

Obviously there was still chemistry between Thea and Shay and they still cared for each other but there was a lot of trust still needed to build up after Thea had left. Everything fell into place after the serious workplace incident yet there was still so much to figure out.

I was surprised that things took another big turn as I didn’t see that coming. I thought we were finally on the flip side and I was kind of worried when both characters really looked like they were ready to move on after everything that had happened.

The end was good and I was glad they both got what they wanted.

Thea and Shay have a major secret. After They became doctors they celebrated by getting married. Only she left him the day after they secretly wed to go doctors withoutborders. Now 10 years later, she back and they are working together. Will Shay get answers he always had? Can these two make a real go at being married? Will there be a HEA?

Shays story we have waited for is finally here and it is A-mazing!! It is so well written as Annie Dyers books always are but maybe more so because she lovingly wraps up this series including appearances of siblings and cousins we already love while giving us a glimpse into the series to come. Loved this book, love her writing, can't wait until Puffin Bay

My first read by this author. I don't really know how to start this review and rate it as I had difficulty to get into the story as I didn't quite understand what was going on in the story right away and had trouble trying to picture what the lead characters were going through at first. Don't really know what it was but for me it was 3,5 stars - almost a 4 star.
After some chapters, the two lead characters, Thea & Shay, wurmed their way into my heart; just wished it was earlier in the book. But that won't deteriorate me from reading another book by this author as I did like how the story was written and in the end it was a good read!
Thea comes back into town, to try and pick up the pieces from the life she has left behind, almost a decade ago. Shay never thought he'd see Thea again but as they're being faced to work together, there are so many things unresolved between them. But it seems that there's still a flame between them that hasn't really died. Can they find their way back to each other or is it too late after all?...

I had been waiting for Shay and he was with the wait. The teasers hidden in Maven's book were perfect and set the stage to finally find Shay's long list wife. Their path back together wasn't smooth but it was worth the wait

Annie Dyer has absolutely smashed it again with the Imperfect Proposal. I on purposely dragged out reading this book despite wanting to devour it as I did not want it to end.

This is book four in an incredible series. It is Shay and Thea’s story. You can read any of the books as standalone but I would recommend reading the whole series (and previous series from Annie Dyer’s books) as you will see characters from them in this book. Which I love as you get glimpses into what their lives are like post their HEA.

Ten years ago Shay and Thea got married in Vegas. Shay woke up the morning after to find his new wife had left for medicin san frontieres. Now she’s back and working in the same hospital. Shay finds this out when she walks into a store cupboard to find him in a compromising position with a colleague.
Side note there is definitely a nice amount of spice in this book 🌶️

This story is about how they reconnect and whether they still feel the way they did ten years ago. Will they stay married or will they finally get a divorce?!

It is full of emotions that will have you smiling and also feeling the characters hurt and pain. You can feel the chemistry throughout the book and spend it rooting for their HEA.

Annie Dyer is incredible at building characters making them relatable and realistic. She delves into what makes them who they are. This helps create a must read book that will leave you wanting to read more of Annie Dyer’s books. I can not wait for Puffin Bay ❤️

Definitely suggest to add to your TBR list - you will not regret it.

I absolutely loved this book! Shay and Thea have been married for 10 years, but he hasn't seen her since she disappeared the morning after they got married in Las Vegas. She sent postcards from the outposts where she worked with médecins sans frontières. Shay never filed for divorce. Then Thea showed up at his current hospital in London. They were so young when they married that they agree to get to know each other again over 6 months to see if they still feel the same.
It's a very emotional and heart-warming journey. One of the things I really like about Annie Dyer's books is how the point of view switches back and forth between the lovers. You experience the doubts, the joy, the passion and heartaches of both sides of the relationship. Characters and family members from previous books reappear, adding depth and credibility to the world she has created. Brilliant.

This series is a kind of spin-off the the Callaghan series, however, it can be read completely by itself in its own right.

Shay has been a very mysterious character throughout every book we've met him in. An amazing Doctor in a very busy London hospital has him working all hours and not being as sociable as his sisters and cousins. However, known as being a "ladies-man", his sisters have always been worried as he has never had anything serious and they are concerned with how he treats the women that have been around. But the main problem is they have never known why.

Insert Thea, who happens to be Shay's wife. Married for 10 years, but no proper communication between them as Thea has never told Shay where she is. Until she turns up in his hospital and keeps trying to talk to him as if nothing has happened.

Can Thea explain herself enough to make Shay understand? Or is 10 years of silence too much to forget?

I loved getting to experience Shay properly. Shay is such an interesting character and I loved his perspective throughout this one. Thea took me a minute to like, my loyalties with Shay from the off. However the more we got to know her, she grew on me and by the end I adored her.

Such a beautiful read and I binged it in a few hours.

Omg! I absolutely loved this book. Even though my heart broke a little bit ok a big bit for Shay when we learn the truth about this marriage to Thea. After being gone for ten years Thea is back to see if herself and Shay still have that spark and can make a real go of it. But poor Shay has had his heart broken and is afraid that Thea a will leave him again. We also got to met our favourite cousins The Callaghan Greens. And we got to read about Ameilie in Puffin Bay which will bring us into Annie's next series. This book is definitely one of my favourites.

Shay's book is finally here!!!!!! If, like me, you have been desperate for his story since he first made an appearance, the wait is finally over, and let me tell you, it was worth the wait! The story was beautifully written! I may have shed a few tears!
