The King's Bow: An Epic Animal Fantasy Adventure (The Great Lighthouse, Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 4 ratings

Betrayed and hunted, a reluctant heir to a dying kingdom must embrace the fire in his blood and claim a legendary weapon before predators and ancient gods plunge the world into darkness.

When ruthless invaders descend upon his city and something long-buried stirs beneath the streets, Asher’s life is shattered. Forced into exile and pursued by enemies at every turn, he must gather scattered allies and confront the primal forces rising to consume the land.

But in a realm where loyalty shifts like the wind and predator lords scheme in the shadows, survival demands sacrifice. A lost relic bound to his bloodline holds the key to uniting his people — though seizing it may cost him everything.

As ancient powers awaken and old feuds reignite, the line between friend and foe blurs. The fate of the realm hangs by a thread, and only those who dare to defy the darkness will endure.

Perfect for fans of Brandon Sanderson’s intricate world-building, John Gwynne’s brutal battles, and the epic animal sagas of Brian Jacques.

"A captivating tale that plunges us into the vibrant yet perilous world of Tamuz... a rich tapestry of anthropomorphic characters and high stakes."

Jamie is a principal video game designer with 7+ years of experience crafting compelling, character-driven narratives. His work appears in major titles like Hogwarts Legacy, For Honor, and Age of Empires IV, where he focuses on plot, dialogue, pacing, world-building, and relationships.

A lifelong fantasy fan, Jamie started writing stories about werewolves and dragons as a child. His passion for immersive, emotional storytelling led him to game design, where players could live the tales he imagined. His debut novel, The King’s Bow, began during lockdown and draws on his love for fantasy, British wildlife, and classics like The Lord of the Rings and Robin Hood. The world is shaped by anthropomorphic cultures, inspired by animals and British landscapes.

Jamie writes with loose plans and strong character instincts, letting stories grow organically. He believes the best moments often surprise even the author.

Originally from Bournemouth, he now lives in Chichester with his wife.

I wasn't a massive reader before picking this up, other than a few star wars books, but I found myself engrossed in this and it actually made me buy a kindle and get into reading as a hobby

I really enjoyed the story and world building I found it easy imagine the set pieces without having it tediously described leaving my imagination to embellish it further

I loved the characters and how gory some of the chapters were because of the rats

I'm very excited for the author to write a sequel so I can follow Asher on his journey

I'm really excited to hear how Asher's story progresses
