Victory snatched from the jaws of defeat.

Betrayal from the shadows.

When someone unexpected conspires against him, Jack must keep his ship and crew united and safe. If he fails, someone powerful that should have had his back will stick a knife into it, and the aliens will enslave or exterminate them all.

There was a Lisa Gane and Regex focus in 'Command Authority' which was amazing given her hacking skills and her growing relationship with her alien rider. Jack has his ship in the best condition it has been in since he has taken command, yet there remains the uncertainty as to whether it will be enough to face the enemy threat. Unfortunately, the story shifts somewhat when they enter a secon beleaguered Commonwealth to once again deal with the age old question as to whether Jack has the authority to command his ship. This plays out rather quickly but sets the stage for the next book in the series titled 'The Grand Conspiracy', as it looks like the Commonwealth has been engaged for the past two hundred years in activities that are detrimental to the common welfare. All in all a good addition to this series, excellent writing, great imagination in putting the story together by both writers (two of the best). It will be interesting to see where they take the story line now that Jack has successfully defended the second system from attack. Also Lisa, has risen above being another techie and is fast becoming a major force in her own right, not to mention becoming a very interesting character as she and Regex merge even closer together. Highly recommend this book. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily; but purchased a copy as the authors deserve the financial support and the book was that good. This is definitely one that you can't put down once you start.

The last couple of books could use a little extra proof reading. The concept, story and characters are still very interesting!

This book comes a little time after the last one with repairs to the last Hunter being complete and the new alien hyper drive and their quantum drive now being installed. They have another person with an alien implanted, though this one they seek to remove.
Leaps and bounds are made in technological understanding of the alien tech and how it can be used with some on the fly research as to the best action. They discover that there are three alien bases and head towards one at Argent. The aliens are given the opportunity to leave the planet which they do and the greater enemy may turn out to be humans with their political wrangling and the great conspiracy....
A space battle with aliens is still present towards the end of the book.
This book does well with the description of the uneasy truce between Lisa and her alien symbiotic Regex as they grow to accept each other. There is some suspense, some intrigue some character development and some interesting new characters leading to another entertaining story in the ongoing saga that leaves yearning for the next book.

Commodore Jack Romanoff and crew with the aid of those his battleship nicknamed HUNTER liberated from the aliens threatening humanity, have gotten the ship back in fighting condition, but nowhere near 100%. With the quantum drive repaired and information they gleamed from alien computers, they have set out on the offensive to travel to take not one but two different alien species on at a large human occupied space. But nothing is easy for Commodore Romanoff and crew. Two large alien forces are enroute to the system. The large world they are there to help is surrounded by aliens they must defeat before more aliens show up. Once that’s do they have to report to an egotistical, moronic, micromanaging excuse of an admiral with zero combat experience how plans on dictating the the Commodore Jack how to prosecute the upcoming battle replacing Jack’s combat hardened young crew members that have not yet graduated from the academy and Marine basic with the admiral’s inexperienced and untrained in the antiquated operation of a 2000 year old battleship. This should be enlightening! stand by for heavy rolls!

The Hunter books are a good read. The series is world building and could easily be script for a great video game.

Highly recommend this book on it’s own… you really should read the series.

Going from having one enemy to defeat to two, is causing problems. Add political intrigue and conspiracy and it's getting diffficult to know who to trust.
Our loyal defenders are coming together as a team and the knowledge they are gathering gives them the power to continue to overcome the obstacles popping up around them.

This is a truly outstanding series.
I highly recommend reading the other books in the series before reading this one. They build on each other but include something fresh in each book.

This has become a favourite series. Action packed with constant ups and downs of fortune. Great likeable characters, conspiracies, corrupt officials and military in fighting add more depth and direction to the storyline. I listened to this one session and look forward to the next in the series. Jeffrey Kafer does an excellent jog with the narration

5.0 out of 5 stars The Hunter visits a new system and liberates it.
Reviewed in Germany on February 12, 2024
Another great entry in the series. This time the Hunter liberates the system of Argent but the reception is a bit frosty because a desktop admiral wants to usurp command. This book is a bit more political but keeps the great pacing and the different points of view. Respect to the authors for keeping the overall plot going along fine while also keeping the smaller stories running beside the plot in the mind of the reader. The plot behind it all becomes more epic but the story stays focused on the one ship. Also the story is more and more told by other people on the ship and not only from the point of view of Jack Romanoff. This I also like.

The endings of these books so far have all been less or more (sometimes much more) cliffhangerly than other series. Cleverly done to keep the readers on the edge and wanting the next book.
