The Lord's Compass: A Regency Enemies-to-Lovers Second Chance Historical Romance (Reckless Rogues Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 492 ratings

Will forced proximity turn these enemies to lovers or only cause an arranged marriage of resentment?

Eric Rowley, Earl of Ferrington, is a roguish charmer, but only one woman will ever own his heart - Lady Faith Embury. Despite her sharp-tongued insults, Eric can't help but be drawn to her. When he agrees to undertake an adventurous quest to help his friend, the only thing he will miss is the woman he loves – and not the life of responsibility he is leaving behind.

Faith will never forgive, and never forget what Eric did, but nor can she move on. For there is only one man who has ever stirred her heart, but she can never trust him again. This means she has no confidence in him to do what is required to solve the next clue in her friends’ treasure hunt. The only way to ensure success is to tag along herself.

When Eric discovers his stowaway, he is both delighted and perturbed. For their forced proximity is sure to mean ruin, and he isn’t sure that she will ever agree to an arranged marriage – even though she is all he ever wanted.

This is an enemies-to-lovers, second chance, arranged marriage, he-falls-first Regency romance featuring a stubborn heroine and an audacious hero. The Reckless Rogues series is best read in order.

Ellie has always loved reading, writing, and history.
For many years she has written short stories, non-fiction, and can hardly believe that she is now living out her dream writing historical romance.

In every era there is the chance for romance, and Ellie enjoys exploring many different time periods, cultures, and geographic locations. No matter when or where, love can always prevail.
She has a particular soft spot for the bad boys of history, and can't help but write of strong, feisty heroines.

Ellie and her husband love nothing more than spending time at home with their two sons and Husky cross. Ellie can typically be found at the lake in the summer, pushing the stroller all year round, and, of course, with her computer in her lap or a book in hand.

This series began with a mysterious family treasure and a group of friends some who are siblings. The treasure is a family legacy for a brother and sister but along the way love is found and friendships made. Eric is taking one of the clues which leads him to Spain, in Belgian to him, his lost love Faith decides to join him. This is where the mystery begins with the two of them. They were at one time courting until a situation occurred and she broke it off. The story has a friends to enemy, A lost love and second chances as well as the continued mystery of the series. You will love the characters , They are not perfect and realize that love them anyways. There is some spicy scenes, and love. Enjoy!.

This book will have you travelling from England to Spain and back to England again.

If you like adventure this series and this book is for you.

She has sworn to never trust him after he broke her heart but she doesn't trust him to go to Spain and to get the treasure like he is supposed to so she hatches a plan to join him on the adventure. She never expected to find out that everything she thought she believed about him wasn't true.

He has been determined to try and win back her trust, but nothing he does has worked and he has no clue what he did to earn her disdain. So he decides to go on a treasure hunt to Spain with the hope that she will either miss him or he will just move on with his life. But what he didn't expect was for her to join him on the treasure hunt.

While they are on their adventure and they are not only finding out that they can be friends but they can be so much more. They laugh, they enjoy each other's company, and they start to fall to in love with each other.

This story is full of adventure, laughter, love and a treasure hunt that leads to love.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book from beginning to end.

I can't wait for the next book!

My rating for The Lord's Compass, by Ellie St. Clair: 3 stars

This is an OK historical romance, but it is very unrealistic. I didn't really mind, though, because it was an entertaining read. Most of the characters were likable, and there were a lot of interesting scenes. The reader does need to be prepared for how unrealistic it is, though -- because their behavior doesn't really fit the Regency period, and the way they go about solving the mystery is not very believable.

I liked Eric, but had a hard time liking Faith. She was just so prickly, and assumed she could never trust a man, especially Eric. He had hurt her (thru no fault of his own) years before, and she was determined to never give him another chance. Even when she heard his explanation of what happened, she still didn't believe he could ever be true to her. It wasn't until he got shot that she realized she loved him. I get that part of Faith's problem was that she always compared herself to her beautiful sister Hope, and thought no one could ever really love her -- but it was just too difficult for me to like her very much.

The reader also needs to be prepared for the fact that the mystery is not solved in this book. I've read 4 of the books so far, and the mystery is still not solved. I'm assuming it won't be solved until the last book in the series.

    My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

It became boringly routine. Any excuse for another 6 pages of rampant sexual activity. Honestly, it really made the story redundant.
