The Magic of Us: A Small Town Single Parent Romance (Murrtham's Tree Farm Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 37 ratings

“You are the best thing I never knew I needed.”

My brilliant idea to capture my newborn’s first Christmas with a photo shoot at a local tree farm isn’t quite as picture-perfect as the idyllic setting. The baby is fussy, my soon-to-be ex-husband leaves me to fend for myself, and the photographer’s hot assistant is the owner of the farm. Harried and frazzled, I toss the baby into his arms. Not my finest move, but I’ve earned my title of “hot mess mom.”
Turns out, West Murrtham isn’t into kids. Not even a little, and my little stunt propels me into even crazier territory. I never expect to see him again, but a few months later, he saves my hot mess self at the gas station. In return, I invite him to a baseball game because why not?

Over the next few months, we develop an odd friendship, testing out the theory if a woman and a man can be platonic friends. Like with other areas in my life, I fail at not falling for West.

But my daughter and I are a package deal. I’d be wise to remember that…

Scroll up to buy The Magic of Us to find out what happens when a platonic relationship doesn't quite work out the way they plan.

Awesome Book!!!!
5 out of 5 stars
Awesome Book!!!!
This is the first book I have read by Taylor DeLong. I truly loved West with his "I don't do kids" mentality. It was funny the way Nellie thrust her daughter into West's hands. I could picture the look on his face had have been priceless. Nellie, has a different personality. It was cool that they both are baseball fans. Nellie is married to a real jerk who seems to want nothing to do with his own daughter and that is sad. Nellie is the type of person who tells it like it is and sometimes she gets mad at her self. Nellie feels that she is a mess but, she set eyes on a handsome West but, he doesn’t do kids. Then Nellie and West manage to start up a friendship that endures through Nellie’s rough times and it starts to become more but, Nellie says something and panics which ruins things. What happens between Nellie and West? Do they get back together? You really need to read this book to find out!! I truly loved this book. Awesome book!!

This was next on the list of "making my way" through Taylor's backlist. And out of the ones I have read so far, this one is my favorite. Nellie is a lovable hot-mess mom with a jerk of a soon-to-be-ex. I mean I despised him and couldn't wait for him to be gone to make way for West, who of course, is just about perfect except for he wants nothing to do with kids and everything to do with Nellie. See the conundrum? So good. I look forward to Everly's story!

Nellie and Wes's story is one of growth, self-discovery, family, and slow-paced. They met when her marriage is going downhill and he has a no-kids policy, so they strike a friendship. This is a worthy read so you definitely don't want to miss it.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Okay, so this author, once again, has written another winner. I absolutely adored this book. West, totally adorable with his "I don't do kids" mentality, had me swooning. Nellie, with her quirky personality, had me wanting to hang with her. To top that off, they were both baseball fans...though I do question their choice of team...lol!
I am a total fan of single parent books, and this one definitely makes it amongst some of of my favorites. The storyline was amazing. The banter amongst the characters was fun and endearing. The characters themselves were awesome.
This author has yet to give me a book I don't love. I doubt she ever will.
    AWESOME READ!!!

    Where shall I begin!

I received an ARC of this book and the title speaks for itself! I believe in the good kind of magic and this book gave me something more to look forward to.

The opening scene to the book let me know that I was in for one heck of a ride!

Nellie (one of my fave names btw) makes me laugh, cry, cuss, and pray for the best where she is concerned. She feels like she is a train wreck and anyone that gets involved with her will run for the hills! She is the total opposite! She is actually a force to be reckoned with.

Her marriage life is going downhill plus she set eyes on a handsome hunk of a man that doesn’t do kids. So, what’s a girl to do with such a huge dilemma? Make new friends, divorce the sperm donor she calls a husband, and hope and pray for the best outcome when life seems to be spiraling out of control.

Wes is seriously one of the hottest single guys around. So one can only imagine why is he still single. Him and Nellie meet not once but twice unto which she is not a total damsel in distress but she is in need of a bit of saving. Wes sees her for more than that even thought she doesn’t.

He helps her along the way to recognize and learn to love the woman she is. His struck no kids policy starts to slow wear off the more time he spends being Nellies friend.

Throw in some helpful family and friends that are there to support you on this journey called life, cheering on new friendships that could turn into more and you’ve got yourself some magical happenings taking place and all around Christmas time! The most magical time of all.

West and Nellies story had me crying tears of Joy, my heart broke for Nellie on more than one occasion, and Wes along with his sister have me some many laughs to make up for the tears.

To say I enjoyed this book is an understatement! I absolutely LOVED it and can not WAIT to read more!

Do yourself a favor and hop on this new series!

I can’t think of a better setting than a Christmas Tree Farm for this story. West and Nellie have a great story.
I absolutely love Nellie’s personality. She is 100% not afraid to be herself and will tell it like it is. She owns her faults and her feelings in a way that makes her even more special.
West can be pretty thick headed. At parts of the book I wanted to shake him and tell him to man up and stop being afraid.
The Magic of Us is a great story. I love that the author still has family as a central theme, as she does in the rest of her books. Nellie appears in West’s life while she is still in a broken marriage. She isn’t happy, but isn’t able to risk making any mistakes that would harm her daughter. Normally I don’t like when author’s skip so much time in a story, but I think it really works well with West & Nellie. It is important that they spend time apart and go on living their lives without divulging all the details to readers. Their story is strong enough and the most important parts are written so well, you don’t even miss the 56 days.
The author waits until the very end of the book to give the reader very important information and it was absolutely perfect. I can’t wait for Everly & Walt to have their chance!
