The Norwegian Assassin: A Riveting Nordic Family Saga from World War 2 (A Resistance Girl Novel Book 4) Kindle Edition
Meet Esther Weiss, a close friend of Lili and Océane from their days at a Swiss finishing school before the war. As we continue the epic saga from 'In Picardy's Fields,' 'The Diamond Courier,' and 'The Parisian Spy,' Esther steps into the limelight with her own gripping story in ‘The Norwegian Assassin’.
Vienna, 1938
Esther's life is meticulously planned, with a bright future alongside her fiancé, Carl Bernstein. But the annexation of Austria by Hitler shatters their dreams. The wedding is indefinitely postponed, and the Weiss family's idyllic existence is upended. Forced to flee north to Oslo for safety, they soon find themselves trapped under Hitler's shadow once again with the Quisling puppet regime in place.
Esther's world unravels further when she returns home one day to discover her entire family has been deported, leaving her with a heart consumed by grief and vengeance. She joins the Norwegian Resistance, using her appearance to procure a false passport that grants her the freedom to exact revenge on those who tore her family apart.
No German or Norwegian fascist is safe when Esther is on the hunt. While her mission gives her a reason to live, it also hardens her heart, creating impenetrable walls around her. Even Tore Ringdal, her protector in the Resistance, struggles to break through.
In a world where love and loss collide, Esther's tale is one of unrelenting courage and determination. Will 'The Norwegian Assassin' find a way to open her heart again amidst the darkness of Norway's wartime struggles?
This spellbinding story of love, loss, and unwavering courage during Norway's darkest times will captivate your heart and stay with you long after the final page. An unputdownable WWII novel that explores the depths of human resilience and the enduring power of the human spirit.

Reviewer quote | Nobody escaped being caught up in the ugliness and cruelty of such a horrible period in Europe's history. | Provides an accurate historical background, but is also an emotional and engaging story of human drama, patriotism, action. | Transports me to another time... a time not unfamiliar with the atrocities of war because it has been promised to never forget. "Lest we Forget". | Shows a different side to the WW2 story, events immediately after the end of the war. The narrative is intense & gruelling. |
Can't miss scene | “Because of you I became a doctor, a freedom fighter, a lover.” | More shots rang out, ricocheting on the Benz’s armored chassis. | Rows of men dressed in black, waving National Socialist banners. | She found herself entangled in a dangerous web of secrets. |

Review
"I have loved every minute reading this series. The Norwegian Assassin captivated my mind and heart. So little is told about the struggles of Norway during WW2. And combined with Esther's search for the family, it gave a heart wrenching insight into what it was like to be a Jewish survivor of the Nazi reign of terror." Reader Review
"Talk about hard to put down! Byron is one amazing author who keeps you flipping pages until the tears start flowing. The details she goes into with everything she writes causes every possible emotion to be evoked at some point during the story. A definite should be on your to read list book." Reader Review
"The Norwegian Assassin is an eye-opening, multi-layered story that takes you deep behind the mists of time and politics that obscured the horrors and struggles endured by the citizens of Norway during Nazi occupation. The book is so richly and authenticity peopled that I expect to see these quiet heroes in my mind's eye if not actually on the sidewalks of the city." Reader Review

- Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2024Another Stunning Resistance Girl from Hannah Byron. The Norwegian Assassin is the fourth book in the Resistance Girl series. And it has all the emotion and passion as the other novels. This book is just as enthralling as the others. Again, I couldn't help but becoming just as immersed in the Norwegian story also. Esther and Tore are so brave. The books invite me to be more. More brave. More strong. More passionate. I don't do "recap reviews", so I will not say more about the characters, but I will say that, even though this book could stand-alone, reading the previous books will give more depth to this book. I definitely recommend this novel.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2024The boom read easily and the characters became family. I have always felt that we who weren’t alive during WWII need to learn so that the horrors aren’t repeated. Looking forward to reading more books by Ms Byron.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2022Whether the goal was to introduce us to Norway's history in WWII or its Resistance, this was superbly done. The changes in the country, the culture, the people as the tyranny of the Nazi's increase. It brings home the fighting spirit necessary to fight that is experienced as the loss of people and freedoms.
Even at the end of WWII, Norway was still captive, a demonstration of how far away they were geographically.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2024I sincerely enjoyed reading this series. The strength and determination to live and how they endured the punishment for helping their country. Everyone should read these books and especially now that Israel is in turmoil.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2024What a traumatic yet exhilarating chapter in WWII's often forgotten Nordic experiences of war and their valiant resistance to the butchers of Berlin!
Experience the tragedies of the Jewish expulsions which culminated in a refuge in a totally "alien" culture and climate. The descriptions of a people and their culture create chilling realizations that their world captivates and stabilizes the new comers with a strength and resilliance they never before experienced. The Resistance missions are vividly described and make you want to bundle up in or to keep reading.
A few editorials included character interchange or a typo, use of descriptive dialog that are more in Vogue today than in the late 30s and 40s, but the message is relevant. The rich history, cultural descriptions and characterizations create a colorful backdrop for the storytelling and contribute to the unique suspense that keeps the reader turning pages.
Well done Hannah Byron!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2022I am very picky about what books I spend my time reading. More often than not, I will start one and delete it off my kindle before finishing because the writing isn't good or the story just doesn't capture my imagination. "The Norwegian Assassin" didn't fall into that category. I was mesmerized with the story from the very beginning! The author spins a masterful tale of a young woman poised to enter the safe, grand life her parents have planned for her - at the same time the events of WWII in Europe begin to swirl. Esther Weiss' life transforms from debutante to warrior as she fights for freedom for her family and her adopted country. I could NOT put this book down and it has been a long, long time since that happened. I felt educated after reading this book, too, because I did not know anything about Norway's contribution to the war efforts. Now I need to go download the others in this series! You will feel as though you have just eaten a very full, satisfying meal after reading this story.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2022This book was spellbinding. To see what these people went through was heartbreaking and heart warming at the same time. The bravery and heroism at the same time. Knowing that this was for the most part based on truth was enlightening. I am so proud of the men and women who fought so valiently for what was right was awe inspiring. God bless them all.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2022Really enjoyed this book in the series - I didn’t know much about the history of the war in Norway - great story line and cant wait for the next books to follow these brave young women!

5.0 out of 5 stars Heart breaking and eye-opening story!
I’ve read all 4 books in the series so far ! The saga starting with the brave and dedicated parents in WW1 to their amazing children and friend who battled the Nazis for freedom in different countries , using their talents and strengths to fight for freedom ! I knew little of what happened in Norway at that time , so I’m so glad I fell upon these riveting stories of female bravery and inner strength! I recommend the series as it will make you laugh, cry , shudder and rejoice at humanity’s worst and best . I look forward to next few books . Thank you for writing about these amazing women !

5.0 out of 5 stars good book to read
Great read! A book full of suspense and action. This book is about a Jewish girl who could easily switch from a society girl to being a topnotch commando in the Norwegian resistance movement. Was also great to read about what happened to norway during the second WW and how the resistance group participated in the war. . A book worth reading
