- Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2024It’s go-time from page 1! I love this book and couldn’t put it down. In fact, I read it a few times and picked up on additional nuances I had missed at first. Easy to read and absolutely thrilling from start to finish. Can’t wait for the next one!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2024We need more books like this with a diversity of characters — strong woman, gay men, and characters using their brains and science. It’s a great read, fast paced, fun, and lots of twists and turns. I look forward to the next in the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2024I enjoyed getting to know the characters in the book even though you don’t find out everything in the beginning. I like the empowerment of the HERB society ladies and descriptions of places that are real. They are now on my bucket list minus Malik!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2024If you’re looking for an unputdownable thriller, this is your book! It is a fast paced, character driven, page turner. I loved the diversity of the characters, especially the middle-aged “badass” Molly. It had a nice love story, and lots of surprises. I hope this is the first in a series, as I’d love to read more from this author. Enjoy the ride!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 21, 2025What a subtle beginning this book has. While you might get a grip on a kidnapped man and the people who want to help him, you will never get smart about some of their backgrounds until much later in the story. Very smart of Mr. Podojil.
This starts basically with a kidnapping and it whisks you along while identifying the family and friends of John, an important businessman, who has been whisked away. Literally snatched away as his kayak is found without his body. Molly, her son Lukas, and his new friend/maybe soon to be boyfriend, refuse to wait for the foreign diplomats to determine if he is dead or alive. They travel to the other side of the world to take some action.
I thought this was slow on the take off. Setting the stage seemed to take a little longer than I wanted. Other than the initial possible relationship building between Lukas and his pilot, I felt like there was as much inaction as Molly felt from the Dubai authorities. I will say the story picked up and really began to roll along, and it definitely kept my attention right through to the end.
This looks like the beginning of a new series. One I think you’ll enjoy. I also think there are a few surprises in it for you. A thriller genre with a series name of “The Herb Society” has to have some puzzles:)

When Molly Halloran’s husband is abducted she, her son Lukas, and her friends board a plane to travel to the Middle East to save him. They are prepared to pay the huge ransom but when they find out why he was taken they know they have to save more than one man. They need to save the world!
I have to be careful what I say because I don’t want to give anything away.
I love a story that features strong women and The Poseidon Project has several of them. There are strong men too. Molly Halloran and her friends are retired but they have one heck of a past. Her son Lukas is well known in the tech industry and her husband John runs a successful international company. We also meet Taylor who owns a private airline and his daughter Tory is one of his pilots. The characters developed brilliantly throughout the story. They are real with flaws, opinions, and knowledge, and are so interesting.
Mr. Podojil takes his characters on a wild adventure. Once you start reading – hold on tight. The story starts with a slow build but soon the pace becomes brisk and the book is impossible to put down. The author weaves together intricate plotlines with some epic twists. My heart was racing more often than not cheering for Molly and the others. It is truly a story of good vs. evil.
The author does an excellent job of setting the scene. From Tucson, Arizona, to Dubai and around the Middle East, in the air and on the ground, his words created vivid images in my mind. There are scientific elements within the book but he made sure they are layman-friendly and easily understandable.
The Poseidon Project is a fabulous mystery adventure full of action and suspense with dynamic characters, a bit of romance, and international and environmental dangers. The sensational ending wraps up all the loose ends including an Epilogue that jumps ahead two years to catch up with the characters. With this being Book 1 of The Herb Society Mysteries and the last few paragraphs of the Epilogue I am excited to say it looks like there will be more action-packed adventures. I can’t wait!
I am adding The Poseidon Project to my Best Reads List for 2024. I totally escaped into it and was hooked from the first page to the last and the book has stuck with me since I turned that final page.
Beware the book does include some explicit language but was appropriate for the situations.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2025I couldn't put the book down because the storyline was fantastic. The book combined mystery, action, thriller, and LGBT+ romance themes. Molly's husband, John, is kidnapped, and she sets out on an adventure to rescue him. When she was younger, she was involved with the Herb Society. A group of women who were strong, intelligent, crafty, and had an exciting past. She is accompanied by her son Lucas, his boyfriend, and the women of the Herb Society, who fly to Dubai to save John. There was so much excitement and twists that kept me on my toes. Initially, I was a bit unsure of what the Poseidon Project was, but as I read on, I figured it out. The author wrote a thriller with a cast of characters that interacted well and added to the plot. The ending was unpredictable, and I never saw it coming. Great Job, Mr Podojil.
