Winners and Losers… and Excusers

It’s really nice ‘watching’ a love story build. Two people have been hurt badly, one through a death and one through a divorce. It’s easy to be drawn to Trix and Jon. Both have suffered a lot. Both have overcome a lot…. Trix suffered from a cheating, unloving husband and Jon grieved the death of his young wife and was doing his best to be a good father to his two teens. Their journey to love isn’t easy, it’s a real struggle and that keeps the pages turning. We want to know what happens. How will they handle the obvious obstacles but also those hidden?

Trix never had children and not for the lack of trying. Dale, her husband, blamed Trix. Refusing to go the science route, he preferred to sleep around with his receptionist, Marie, and get her pregnant. He tells Trix he’s getting a divorce and marrying the woman having his child. A really honorable man, huh?

Jon’s wife, Melody, the love of his life, died at a young age. He’s left with two rambunctious teenagers and he’s still in his 30s. Yes, he and his wife started building a family while teenagers themselves, but their love for each other other made it work. Melody's death impacts the teens too. Those teenage years always are challenging, but add a mother’s death and issues multiply.

This is the background but not quite everything. See, a leopard doesn’t change it spots. Dale cheats on his new wife, Marie, with Trix... the wife he cheated on with Marie. He comes to Trix with a sob story about Marie losing the baby so soft hearted Trix brings him into her apartment to try to help soothe him. They end up sleeping together. He wakes up the next morning, tells Trix he never wants to see her again and leaves to go back to his new wife. What a wicked web we weave….Trix got pregnant that night. She goes home to Dickens to be with family and build her art business. That’s where she meets Jon and Dale has no clue he’s got another child on the way…

🤔OBSERVATIONS:

✒︎ Appreciated the author not using intimate steam to fill pages. Also appreciate the lack of foul words.

✒︎ Dale did not make mistakes, he made choices and never paid the price for those bad choices. He was rewarded instead. Where is any remorse?

✒︎ It’s hard to feel badly for Marie. She knew Dale was married when she slept with him. She was his receptionist, no way she didn’t know. She made her choices too. I guess she thinks husband stealing is okay.

✒︎ What is this ‘cousin’ bit? They are step brothers/sister, not cousins. Secrets and lies always are exposed, sooner or later.

✒︎ There’s a big difference between forgiving and excusing. All I heard was one excuse after another for Dale. He cheated on Trix, his legal wife, with his receptionist who he got pregnant, Now he's soooo happy because he was getting the child he and Trix never had…. Of course he blames Trix for that. It was all her fault. Poor, poor Dale. I want to know what happens when he take a good look in the mirror. Marie also.... neither of them are innocent.

✒︎ My biggest negative here was how casual cheating was treated.... like it happens, no big deal. Dale and Marie were the culprits, not the victims. Yes, Trix was wrong but she and Dale were married for YEARS when Marie broke up their marriage. He came back to Trix in pain. She felt bad for him and who knows what he told her that night. Marie got what she herself handed out.... a cheating husband.
