The perfect neighbourhood. The perfect friends. The perfect murder.

When Frankie moved into her new home, it was a dream come true. Living on one of the most exclusive streets in the country, where gleaming white houses looked out over golden sand and deep blue ocean. Nothing bad could have followed her there.

Her new neighbours -Zara, Nadine and Geneva - soon took her under their wing. The four women became inseparable. Until the morning when Geneva's body was found on the beach.

Suspicion was immediately cast on Geneva's husband. But when the police didn't charge him, he vanished without trace. Now, five years later, he's back.

Soon no one is beyond suspicion. Dark secrets that have been hiding behind closed doors begin to be revealed, with devastating consequences.

What really happened the night Geneva died? And how far will they all go to make sure their own secrets stay buried?

A totally gripping and page-turning psychological thriller with a killer twist you just won't see coming. Fans of T M Logan, K L Slater and Shalini Boland will be hooked from the very first page.

I had high hopes for this book but I found it to be very disappointing. Too many characters to follow and the author jumps from one to the other without a lot of depth. I'd pass on this one.

Becca Day has a way of grabbing your attention from the beginning. I thoroughly enjoyed every twist and turn this story had. A gripping page turner that kept me up way past my bedtime. Secrets can be deadly and you never know who you can trust.

Okay so I was hooked on this book. I needed to know how it ended. To me, it was a bit of a slow burn. Not in a bad way, but the build up between the characters was 80% of the book. The puzzle pieces slowly coming together. Then BAM! At 84% I NEEDED to finish it. Nothing else mattered. Very interesting. So many secrets. I'm very into Becca Day right now. I'm heading to my next read by her now! Cheers!

The story centers around four friends entangled in a web of secrets. They are grappling to unearth truths while navigating through a suspenseful plot.
Juniper Rose, a devoted YouTuber, becomes fixated on unraveling a long-unsolved case involving one of the locals, Geneva O'Connor. Through her True Crime Over Wine podcast, she shares videos and conducts interviews with crucial figures, even securing an interview with Geneva's husband, who had been previously interrogated by the authorities. Juniper actively engages her audience, urging them to participate by sharing their own theories and interacting with her content. Meanwhile, the tension mounts as the friends remain on edge, constantly trying to safeguard their concealed truths. The narrative is punctuated with jaw-dropping moments, tantalizing revelations, and an unexpected twist that solidifies its status as an engrossing and entertaining murder mystery.

Not just your ordinary old crime thriller. Full of twists and turns that you think you've got your head around and then the biggest twist comes at the end. Totally unexpected.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Slower Pace But Rewarding
Reviewed in Australia on January 2, 2025
"The Secrets We Buried" by Becca Day was an enjoyable read overall, though I found the pacing to be a bit slow at times. The story is filled with twists and turns, and the characters are well-developed, making it easy to get drawn into their lives and the secrets they hold.

While the slower pace required some patience, it allowed for a deeper dive into the characters' emotions and backstories, which added richness to the narrative. Once the tension began to build, it became difficult to put the book down.

If you enjoy psychological thrillers with layered storytelling and a focus on relationships, this is worth picking up. It’s a slow burn but ultimately rewarding!
