The Sexpert (Tall, Dark, and Handsome Book 1) Kindle Edition
EDEN
I’m just a simple girl who likes dessert. And sexy men. And social media. So starting an anonymous video channel called The Sexpert as a side hustle to make up for my low-paying marketing job at Le Man Magazine seemed like a perfectly sensible career decision. Until we went viral, my boss accused my anonymous personality of stealing his idea, and now my super sexy new boyfriend, Andrew, is out to get me.
Her. Me. Whatever.
ANDREW
I don’t want it to be her. I do not want this… sweet, delicious, shy social media nerd working at my best friend’s magazine to be the face behind those perky cupcakes on the Sexpert channel. I don’t want it to be her… because I like her. A lot. She’s funny, and quirky, and smart, and creative… and… I really, really like her. It just can’t be her.
But it is.
And now I have to choose.
My best friend?
Or… The Sexpert?

I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with this book for the newer book writing duo of Julie A Huss and Johnathan McClain. I read their first series and found it good, but this was even better. The characters had great comedic timing and their chemistry and general awkwardness was perfection.
From the first moment they met, I knew that this story had great potential. It was different, but had a great lead-in for what could happen. And I was not disappointed.
Eden works for "the man", literally at Le Man magazine. She's their Social Media maven, but gets no recognition for what she does. She is quiet and tries to camouflage herself to fit in the background. But she has a secret and that secret is about to go viral. Her with her great assets, and her BFF Zoey have found a niche and they are running with it. Only problem is, her boss thinks they stole his idea. But he doesn't know who they are. Not yet anyway. So what will they do?
Enter Andrew, Eden's boss's best friend. Eden and Andrew meet in such a roundabout way, but they have instant chemistry and everything about the two of them just seems to fit. I adore Andrew and his take charge kind of manner. He also has found a niche and just goes with it. He's creative and loves the outdoors. But he also seems to be hiding something. What can two people do that are hiding a bit of something from one another? Can you be honest or will that thing ruin everything?
This is quite simply a great dive into this genre. The dialogue and the story is fresh, new and fun. It's light and entertaining and a perfect summer read. It's got quite the sweetness, awkward funny moments and all the sexiness in between. A total rom-com winner for Huss and McClain!
Enter Andrew, Pierres (Edens boss) best friend who just happens to possess the technology to identify this Sexpert. But he is too distracted by the woman he met on a freeway in traffic and discovers lives in the same building as him.
The more time Andrew spends with Eden, the more he starts to notice things and when the truth is finally revealed, will these two ever be able to have something real?
My review:
This was a fun romance. There was little to no drama and parts of it will make you laugh out loud. Eden and Andrew are both well written characters and the side characters were great too.
The story moves along at the perfect pace and it has just the right amount of ups and downs.
This one is pretty straight forward, the reader knows all the secrets right from the start and it is fun watching the other characters try to figure things out.
My thoughts:
POV: switches up between Eden and Andrew
Quick hook or slow starter? 5 (I was hooked from the first chapter)
Character development: 4
Level of Romance between characters: 4
Passion/Heat level: 4 (there is not a lot of sex in this one but what there is fits really well with the story)
Angst/Heartbreak: 3 (This is more of a comedy, not much drama at all)
Cliffhanger?: No, there is the assumption of a HEA in the end although I hope maybe Pierre will get a book???
Overall, I thought this one was fun and I enjoyed it.
Eden Presley is working at Le Man Magazine and finally has the money to move out of her dad's house into her own apartment at TDH Neighborhood (Tall, Dark and Handsome) the happening place to live. Eden and her best friend Zoey also have a secret blog that they run called The Sexpert. On their blog, they disguise Eden's voice, show her only from the neck down and talk about different sex techniques comparing them to bakery. What Eden didn't realize is the owner of Le Man Magazine, Pierce Chevalier, secretly has been developing a similar idea. When Pierce finds out about The Sexpert he is convinced that someone from inside his company stole his idea. He gets his best friend, Andrew Hawthone to help investigate since Andrew's voice disguising app is the one being used on The Sexpert.
On Andrew's first day driving to TDH, he is stuck in traffic, next to a beautiful blonde. When his phone dies, he decides to go ask the blonde to borrow her charger. When traffic starts moving he forgets to give back the charger and hopes he will run into the blonde at the TDH. Of course he does run into Eden and their attraction is through the roof.
So when Pierce asks Andrew to help him find The Sexpert, he doesn't realize at first that it is Eden, but he quickly catches on. As these two play a cat and mouse game, they can't help control their feelings. and things progress quickly. They both feel like they have found "the one" but they both have secrets that they are not telling each other. When things finally blow up, it takes a huge leap of faith for these two to finally get back together.
I just loved these characters. Eden is such a fun, bubbly person and you can't help but love her. Andrew just seems so down to earth and the type of guy you want to fall in love with. Together they were great!

This book is somewhat of a departure in terms of tone and style from the usual suspenseful romances we have come to expect from Julie and Johnathan.
I personally love the fact they have written a lighter, more humorous story which doesn't get tangled up in a complex storyline.
Sometimes you just need a book to entertain and amuse without having to think too deeply about keeping the story and characters in a state of perpetual tension.
Eden and Andrew are a wonderful couple and their first meeting is just one of those perfect rom-com set ups that would hook me if it unfolded on the big screen.
The series of serendipitous meetings and coincidence do read a little like a film, but to my mind that's no bad thing.
There is a very funny team bonding activity in an indoor rock climbing gym that could translate to the big screen with ease.
As always with JA Huss, I would love to have a story told about the secondary characters we encounter along the way.
All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable, sweet easy read.
The Sexpert is funny, but it's also real. The approach to identity is subtle and honest; we're not all perfect, we don't always know what to do, our choices don't define us- because sometimes they're wrong, and sex often is clumsy and awkward, especially the first time. I appreciate the reality of this book. Andrew is quirky, Eden is... something else. And, that Andrew is drawn to her character because of these traits, not in spite of them, is refreshing. It's not a situation of looking passed them, but embracing them. We don't lean on physicality so much in this book (outside of Edens cupcakes), it's more about who these characters are.
Eden is a beautiful little package of inspiring optimism. Experiencing her through these pages made me want to improve my behaviour, to be better. At the very least to change my views of Monday.
And Andrew. He's all over the place. I enjoyed watching his rigidity on certain aspects adapt and become new... things.
Man writing without spoiling is hard case.
Anyway, I found this book refreshing. I'm hoping for more from the TDH neighbourhood, especially Myrtle.
The story is told via dual POV’s with plenty of drama & angst, humour, and some steam. I’m already looking forward to the next book, Pierced.
