Baker Eagan has just wrapped the TV show she created and ran for the past five years of her life. She’s ready for a break and to refocus on her writing, and the last thing she wants to do is go to her agent’s birthday party. Little does she know that her agent plans to play matchmaker.

Casey Jinx is the lead actress on a hit TV show. She’s also out and proud and happy to be playing a lesbian character on network TV. When she goes to a birthday party for her agent’s wife, she’s almost immediately introduced to Baker. Within minutes, Casey finds herself completely taken with the somewhat shy writer.

The two women hit it off instantly and discover they want more than just a chat at a birthday party. Unfortunately for them, though, Baker was just offered the job of executive producer on Casey’s show, making Baker Eagan her new boss.

Their romance begins quickly and intensely, but once Baker takes the job, their relationship is left behind. Will they find a way to get back what they’ve lost? Or, will they let the show get between something they’ve both felt so strongly about? After all, the show must go on.

    This was a slow burn...in the best way! It's usually hit or miss for me with this trope because sometimes the stories tend to lull, and then the characters lose their chemistry. But the way Nicole Pyland wrote this one... she expertly dangled that carrot to keep you engaged from the start.

    Baker and Casey hit it off in the beginning, and there was no doubt that they had chemistry, but being in the TV business, relationships are a fickle thing. So, we are treated to an emotional roller coaster of professional and personal hangups between the two while they figure out what they mean to each other. Wonderful story!

    Casey is the star of a lesbian featured #1 TV show. She's also an out and proud lesbian. When all of a sudden the show starts losing ratings. Baker is the showrunner/writer of another popular TV show that's just wrapped. They meet at their agent's party and immediately feel a connection. Casey has to go back to Toronto (where her show is filmed and she's doing a movie during hiatus). Baker goes to visit her when they find out that Casey's show runner has been fired and the job has been offered to Baker. Now, they can't date if Baker takes the job. This kept me turning page after page. I haven't been disappointed by any of Nicole Pyland's books! 5 stars!! A FAVORITE!

    If you love Hollywood and the stories that come from the crazy place (being from California I can say that with love) you will enjoy this wonderful story. Casey, a famous TV actress and Baker, a screenwriter who fall in love at first site. The story works through all the crazy of creating and producing a hit show and how life is not always as glamorous as people think as this couple deal with all the obstacles placed in their way by an uncaring industry. Great read.

    I’m a bit pissed this sat in my phone for so long before I read it. The dialogue was fresh and the story was a slow burn which is my absolute favorite. There were a few points that seemed to jump to the past which where hard to follow, but overall I felt myself smiling throughout.

    A Screenwriter (Baker) and an Actress (Casey) meet at a mutual friends party and jump into a two week whirlwind romance, only to be broken apart when Baker gets recruited for the head writer position on Casey’s TV show. I liked how this book started in Hollywood but quickly moved to Canada. The author did a good job of creating this very insular environment of crews working away from Tinseltown, and used it as a pressure cooker to get the couple together.

    The MCs have an instant connection, but it doesn’t feel forced and their initial “break up” actually serves the story by allowing the characters time to pause and get to know each other. They may not be together for part of the storyline, but they are never far apart. Baker and Casey are both pretty low angst characters, with previous relationship failures, and the majority of their issues in the book are centered on bad timing and occasionally overreactions.

    Just a small sidenote, I really didn’t like this cover. It feels much darker than the storyline, and I thought it was a mystery novel at first. Personal opinion but it kept me from reading the book for months.

    What a great book. This is my first book by Nicole Pyland but it definitely won't be my last!
    I was just hooked from the first to last page. Great characters, lots of emotions going through the storyline.
    And something I really enjoy in a book - a great epilogue.
    Low angst, like able MC's and for me not overloaded with sex scenes - the focus was on the emotions. Loved it.

    I don't know what she does, but everytime I read her books, I skip sleeping haha

    This is a great slow burn, although I'm not a big fan of slow burns and I wish there were more sexy time, but it's super sweet, their chemistry and their love are super strong
    Also, they are sooo cute together
    And it's so cute that Casey don't want to kiss anyone else, even though it's her job, she won my heart there
    btw I don't know if I could date an actress, and I do KNOW if I did, I would never get to work with her, see her kissing someone else would probably kill me.... Nope, couldn't do that

    Zuerst dachte ich bei der Lektüre, wow, das geht aber schnell mit den beiden. In gewisser Weise stellt die Autorin hier das gängige Schema lesbischer Romanzen etwas auf den Kopf. Zuerst eine superschnelle Annäherung, doch dann geht Baker auf Distanz, denn sie wird die Produzentin der TV-Show, in der Casey die Hauptdarstellerin ist. Ein Verhältnis am Arbeitsplatz? Igitt.
