THE ACCUSATION HANGS IN THE AIR LIKE A NOOSE: “MURDERER”.
It’s 1264, and framed for the murder of a girl within his own walls, Lord Rory of Hambrig has no choice but to flee. On the run from those who once swore fealty to him, Rory must navigate the fractured kingdom of England, where the Second Barons’ War pits brother against brother.
Rory’s own brother, Nicholas, is caught in the turmoil, fighting for Simon de Montfort’s rebellion in Sussex. But Rory is burdened by the presence of Felix, a strange adolescent boy who joins his party and whose unpredictable behaviour causes great unrest. With danger closing in from all sides, Rory makes a desperate bid to save Nicholas and clear his name.
As dark forces rear their heads, Rory realises that the war outside may pale in comparison to the battles he faces within his own group. The secrets that haunt both his brother and Felix could unravel everything Rory is fighting for.
Will Rory’s flight from his homeland lead him to justice, or straight into the jaws of his enemies?
WITH EACH STEP THE WEIGHT OF BETRAYAL GROWS HEAVIER, DRAWING HIM TOWARD A FATE DARKER THAN HE EVER IMAGINED…

About the author

I write Medieval Fantasy Adventures set in the thirteenth century in a small independent kingdom to the east of England.
Alchemy and the occult run through this medieval world, in which Lord Rory of Hambrig fights the demons within himself as much as the forces that threaten to overpower his castle.
I am an author and musician, passionate about the late thirteenth century. I produce a regular newsletter for readers of my books: The Household News.
Sign up for The Household News and you’ll immediately receive a free ebook prequel: Mansurah: Jonny's Tale, an exciting adventure set in Egypt during the Seventh Crusade!

5.0 out of 5 stars A gripping adventure
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis tale had me gripped. A girl murdered, a host of characters who could have done it, and our hero falsely accused. Then the background of warfare as monarchists fight a popular democratic front. We find out more about Rory in this book, as his character develops. And a tantalising glimpse of the supernatural creeps in. A excellent second book in the series.
