The Soul Bank Kindle Edition
"A unique, fresh & hilarious love story."
We’ve all been there at some point. A soul-sucking, boring and drab business hotel. You stay there because you have to, not for a refreshing retreat.
Andy Clarke thinks nothing of it when he stays one stormy night in just such a hotel, on the outskirts of an industrial estate, near a quiet town in the Home Counties.
At least, not until things start to go a bit wonky in his life. Especially with his girlfriend.
He’s plagued with strange dreams, ear-worm tunes that drive him mad, tiredness, emptiness and a killer headache.
And those dreams he’s having...? Well, some of them are a little naughty! He’s having the most amazing, intense relationship of his life.
If only it was real...

- Reviewed in the United States on November 23, 2024I loved this book! From the first page to the last it kept my attention all the way. The plot was unbelievable yet believable. I can’t wait to read another book by this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2024This is the second Adam Eccles book that I have read and I enjoyed it immensely. I look forward to the next one.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2024Two souls reaching out in a search for what all of us seek and few really find. Eccles has crafted a fantasy that will have you looking for more such from his magic pen.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2021This is a story of a nerd caught up in everyday life with romantic and self esteem problems. Then you are thrown off by a kind of metaphysical/ what is real(?) issues. Clever.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 8, 2022Great plot! Enjoy good mysteries, and this delivered on all counts. Kudos for originality! Thank you. Look forward to more of your books.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2022I don't know where the positive reviews came from but this is absolutely the worst book I've ever read. The characters have no depth and it's a constant rehash of them doing the same thing over and over and over……and over again throughout the book. His best friend is a partyer and sleeps with any woman who crosses his path. We know this because practically every interaction Andy has with him involves his ogling women and trying to get in their pants. Their boss, Ron, insists on an overabundance of meetings with the team where he proceeds to be too upbeat and boring. We know this because again, each interaction Andy has with him tells us this same thing over and over and over again. Ad nauseam.
Andy's girlfriend is cold, her actions seem off and honestly, leaving him for a “throuple” makes no sense. Maybe it would if we knew a bit more about her but the writer doesn’t allow that. Instead she’s the generic heartless woman who treats poor Andy badly and ends up alone.
There’s nothing to like about Andy’s character. He’s supposed to be a nerd, quiet nice guy type who gets trampled on by his girlfriend. That sums him up. With the exception of a few sentences about his anger with the ex-girlfriend, he never develops through the story and remains the same up to the end, a very boring “vanilla” type.
The story itself really doesn’t make much sense but instead seems to pander to men’s sexual fantasies. Nice guy nerd is dumped. Nice guy nerd has hot sex with a stranger in exotic locations in his dreams. Nice guy nerd meets the woman of his dreams in person. The rest of the story about the hotel and the stones with souls in them just comes across as unbelievable and rushed.
I wanted to put this book down when I was around 20% of the way in but I kept pushing through hoping it would get better. I wish I had listened to my instincts. The only good thing is that this was a free book. Unless the author can do better, he’s going on my “do not read” list of writers.

1.0 out of 5 stars Für solche Bücher müsste man rote Warnsterne erfinden

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant read
I have never heard of this author before, but after reading this book I will be reading everything else he has written.
It was a highly entertaining tale, part mystery, part love story, with a lot of humour thrown in. At times I felt as if the Author was writing this book just for me - it is told through the eyes of the main character, Andy, and his attitudes, beliefs and sense of humour, well, it was as if I was reading about myself.
Once I started reading I couldn't put this book down. I read a lot of books on Kindle and many of them are quite average and forgettable. Not this one though. Oh no. The quality of the writing and storytelling are so good, and the story was so intriguing, it will stay with me for a long time.
A truly outstanding read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Story
A romantic comedy from a distinctly male point of view with a hell of a twist. Thoroughly enjoyable and very well written.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, unusual lad-lit
I've spotted a pattern with Adam's books: because the lead character has to drive the plot, he gets surrounded by at least one side-kick who is allowed to be larger-than-life and more than a little outrageous. Nowhere is that more evident than in Dave - a man behaving so-much-more-than-badly. He is the perfect foil for Andy, whose honour and integrity make him the sort of bloke I'd definitely have taken home to meet the parents.
I really felt for him when his world fell apart - but that's what happens to sweet guys whose blind devotion puts their undeserving girlfriend on a pedestal. I will always remember this book as the first time I came across a certain word - desperately trying not to give spoilers, but I'm pretty sure you'll know it when you see it.
As for the dream chapters - the first one snagged a little because it was written in a completely different voice, but once I'd got over myself, I really loved the flowing, lyrical prose - it was a genius device to show how we become different people in our dreams. And as for the esoteric stuff - that ticked all my boxes leading to an immensely enjoyable experience.
