The Stars Rain Down: Who Owns You? Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 7 ratings

Catherine Mercer’s assignment was easy enough: interview an interstellar freighter pilot whose ship had fallen victim to a pirate attack near the Earth planetary colony of Aranae. As an IPS agent, following orders is her duty. As an artificial intelligence, she is property. Her life and destiny belong to those who own her, and compliance is mandatory.

But when her simple fact-collecting mission blows up into a dangerous manhunt for the pilot-turned-fugitive, Catherine finds herself up to her neural nets in prejudice, betrayal, and government scandal—a bit much for an android law enforcement agent.

During the course of her pursuit, Catherine realizes she must confront a greater challenge: that she may be more than the sum of her synthetic material, computers, and programs. If she is more than a machine, who can own her?

Sail the stars with Catherine on her journey to find her true self, that being human transcends physical form. A spirit yearning for freedom resides within the body and fights suppression. But androids do not have souls or spirits.

Excellent sci-fi adventure. Very enticing an exciting story. It kept me wanting more. I connected with Catherine as I rooted for Rick McCabe and QR. I love the characters and the ongoing journey. Good imagination, world building, robotics, and cliffhanger ending. I dig all the musical innuendos as well.

A fascinating, thought provoking sci fi, taking place in the future on an investigative ship. It raises some questions about how we treat people now and how we might treat them in the future. Brilliant.

Glenn presents an enticing and techie story. A futuristic sci-fi page turner with heart and intrigue and I'm looking forward to the second installment...

Good read. Much more suspenseful than I anticipated. Really enjoyed the characters.

I enjoyed Catherine's creation. She is naive yet fearless. Catherine grows up fast; in less than a week, she is a bold revival of technology, and something calls her. A robot with a destiny?
