"Jensen is back with an intense, page-turning psychological thriller. Readers will whip through the pages as the narrative switches between past and present. With characters as desperate as they are damaged, Jensen creates a mood of hope versus doubt, which works extremely well in building and sustaining the panicked pace. Riddled with incredible, unforeseen revelations coupled with a creepy ending that could keep readers up at night, this novel is a sure bet for fans of psychological suspense and domestic thrillers."―Booklist

Kat and Lisa were once as close as sisters. The secrets they share mean their trust is for life… Or is it?
Just when the couple’s dream seems within reach, Kat begins to suspect she’s being watched and Nick is telling her lies.
Are the cracks appearing in Kat’s perfect picture of the future all in her head, or should she be scared for the lives of herself and her family?
My Thoughts: From the very beginning of The Surrogate: A gripping psychological thriller with an incredible twist, I was worried about Kat and Nick’s plan to use her childhood friend Lisa as their surrogate. There were so many red flags for me, and I thought that Kat should have been more wary. There were the secrets and lies about what happened to Jake, Lisa’s twin; and then there was something between Lisa and a troubled boy Aaron that suggested some kind of conspiracy between them.
Was Lisa lying about being pregnant? Why did she keep demanding more money from Kat and Nick? Why does she keep Kat away from the doctor appointments?
Then there was Nick’s childhood friend Richard, who is cold and secretive, too. What is he hiding? Did he sabotage Kat and Nick’s attempted adoptions?
Kat’s fears grow along with her suspicions. Who, if anyone, can she trust? Can she even trust Nick, who seems to be lying about so many things? Is he having an affair?
When the answers to the questions are finally revealed, it might be too late for any of them. I couldn’t stop turning the pages, and I didn’t see the truth taking the shape that it did. What I had suspected turned into something completely different…and almost unbelievable. 4 stars.

Louise Jensen’s “The Surrogate” is a campy mystery that keeps your attention throughout.
Kat is desperate for a baby. She and her husband Nick have tried everything - unfortunately Kat is unable to conceive. After suffering heartache after heartache, Kat and Nick try to adopt, only to fail again - then something crazy happens. Kat runs into her ex-best friend, Lisa and Lisa offers to become their surrogate. The catch? Lisa and Kat have a past. Something bad happened between them 10 years ago, something that made it so that they severed all ties with each other. Something so bad that Kat has never forgiven herself for it and has even kept her past a secret from her husband. As for Lisa? She has secrets of her own.. and is quite shady herself. As the story progresses it’s hard to tell if Lisa can be trusted.
Kat’s life soon gets out of control. Kat begins to think that everyone in her life, including Nick, his best friend Richard, Lisa and her next door neighbor Claire, are against her and we can’t help but think the same thing. Kat’s antics are wild and completely far-fetched - as is the story itself.
There were many-a-time that I rolled my eyes and couldn’t wait to get to the end. I thanked goodness that it was a quick, easy read. The ending was nutso, if I do say so myself. Completely unexpected, and that my friends is why we read mysteries: for the element of surprise, and “The Surrogate’s” ending, took me by surprise and then some. If you aren’t shocked, then you are one heck of a detective!
This was a Traveling Sister Read. It included with Brenda, Norma, Kaceey, Lindsay, Jennifer, Holly, Berit and Mary Beth. We all had a lot of fun reading it together. It was my first read with Berit and Mary Beth. Welcome to the sisterhood ladies, it was a pleasure!
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Louise Jensen for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2017I started reading thinking this was going to be a light hearted, fast read. As a fan of Louise Jensen I was actually surprised at how the book began, but oh boy did this book get dark and twisty quick! It ended up being a fast read because I absolutely could not put it down! This one kept me up late into the night reading, literally gripping my bed until the final pages.
The first chapter of the book starts with the reader finding out 2 people have been killed. Very early on I thought I had the end completely figured out, and then BAM..plot twist. And just when you really think you have it figured out again..You don't. I love that this book kept me guessing all the way through, had an interesting story line and I was completely BLOWN AWAY by the ending. I absolutely did not see that coming.
This book had me gasping out loud, heart racing, biting my nails, on the edge of my seat, laughing and even crying. Truly one of my favorite books this year. I absolutely can't wait for Louise Jensen's next book!
This is definitely a must read for 2017!

4.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic psychological thriller
This is an amazing story that will keep you gripped all the way through, with so many twists that you will keep changing your mind as you read on. Kat and Nick are desperate to be parents and, after having lost the chance to adopt two babies from abroad, the sudden reappearance of Kat's childhood best friend seems almost too good to be true, especially when she offers to be a surrogate for them. The background story is slowly revealed, and the reader learns that both Kat and Nick are keeping secrets from each other, while things keep happening in the present that make Kat start to suspect everyone around her. The reader follows Kat's downward spiral into paranoia and confusion, until the final twist at the end that is totally unexpected.
This is the first book I've read by this author, I look forward to reading her other novels.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a must read which I cannot recommend enough and deserves 10 gold stars!
After reading The Sister and loving it I couldn't wait to read what Louise had in store for us next. OMG this lady sure knows how to write a psychological thriller. This book is absolutely mind blowing in fact it will blow your socks off it is one hell of a masterpiece. I cannot begin to tell you how much I loved it.
In this story we meet Kat and Nat who are desperate to have a baby after trying everything. Then by chance Kat’s childhood friend gives them one last chance to have there dream.
The Surrogate is beautifully written with stunning atmospheric descriptions where I could actually smell the food and feel the weather.
With chapters woven together telling a story of now and what happened in the past. Louise has written one extremely well crafted story that will take you through a rollercoaster of emotions. I felt like the characters all had something to hide I just didn't know who to trust. It will certainly keep you guessing until the very end. There I was thinking I had it all worked out...how wrong was I!
The tension build up is out of this world. One minute I am on tenterhooks then the next I am crying It’s not very often that I cry reading a story but oh my days this story is so powerful you will not believe it until you read it. Louise has totally excelled herself with this cracking read. I cannot wait for the world to read it. If you loved The Sister you will love this even more.
This is a must read which I cannot recommend enough and deserves 10 gold stars! This has got to be the best book I have read this year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible author....I need to read them all!!
I love reading...but I find it hard to find books that catch and keep my attention. I'm usually pretty good at catching undercurrents and seeing twists coming ahead of time...but so far with Louise Jensen's books, having read 4 of them so far, I have been SHOCKED 4/4 times! These are some of the BEST books I have ever read, by far!! HIGHLY recommend.
