My favorite book of 2020!!
5 out of 5 stars
My favorite book of 2020!!
10 stars for this amazing read!I was patiently waiting for this book since I read the second in the series.Emery and Jack are both very mysterious characters. And I love that about them. I really do. We learn so much about them. It was a very interesting read. Samantha made it unputdownable! It is a mix of romance, crime and mystery. Especiallly mystery. You never know what to expect on the next page. So interesting. I was hooked right in. I also love the involvement of main characters form previous books. It makes the book that more special. We learn a lot about them too. They feel like a family to me.We follow Jack and Emery stories right from the beginning. When they first met 9 years ago. It was amazing to see that from Jack's eyes. He was always so cold and collected and when you read his thoughts? Priceless, it really is. He is a good guy turned bad. And we get to know why. No more mystery about him. So refreshing. This was building through all the books. It was time to learn the truth. We also learn what's behind Emery's shyness and why she is so closed off to everyone. This is my favorite of the series and top three of all of Samantha's books!!She did it again! Well I never really doubted that! Good job! Also my favorite book of 2020!! So delicious.I received an earc from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

I really enjoyed this addition to The Hart's Boardwalk Series. It took me two days to read it, it would have taken me less time, but I did have to go to work. I have been looking forward to Emery and Jack's story since book #1. Samantha Young was excellent with writing hints throughout the series at their story and finally we have received a great one that was worth the wait.

I have read almost all of Samantha Young's books and have enjoyed their addictive storylines. When the Hart's Boardwalk Series was released, I was really excited, as I live in the place where the story is based. I live in Delaware, and although she renamed one of the towns for this series, I can clearly see these places in my home. I have not read any books that are based in my home state. The only issues I had while reading this book were some true facts, and they are not really relevant, since this is a story and the author can write her story the way she sees fit. For example, in this book, Emery volunteers to help children in a town called Millton, really it is spelled Milton, and in this book there is a Sheriff's department, we do not have sheriff's departments here, we just have police departments. Also, in Delaware, we do not have a district attorney, we have attorney generals. This is just me being picky though.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed Emery and Jack's story. There was a tempo to the story that made me not want to put the book down. I just wanted to keep reading. I really enjoyed the flashback's in the book, that wove the first two in the series together. Reading this series is like watching a TV series, with multiple storylines, and characters during the same time frame. Reading this book just made me want to read more about these characters. The last chapter of the book was gratifying in giving me the conclusion I was hoping for.

I would definitely recommend this book and series to other readers. Another beautiful story by this author.

4-4.5 stars. I've been waiting for Jack and Emery's story in anticipation and couldn't wait to find out how it would go. Turns out, Jack and Emery have a long history starting 9 years ago and while the chemistry was instantaneous, it would take all of this time before Jack finally made his move. Up until this point, they had a few stolen moments and glances here and there. Emery kept her distance because Jack was tied up with his father's dealings and because Jack preferred it that way even though it was obvious that wasn't what he wanted.

From the previous books, Emery is very timid and awkward. She doesn't talk much and has some secrets. She has finally found a close group of girlfriends with whom she feels comfortable with and can confide in. I was a bit surprised by Emery coming out of her shell more in this book because it seemed like such a contrast with whom she was previously. While I liked this development, it also didn't quite feel natural either.

As for Jack, I absolutely adored him. He made so many mistakes. The list is long and the days are short with him trying to absolve himself. He wanted to protect the people he loved and cared for the most. In the process, he pushed away Cooper for good and kept Emery away. He martyred himself out and it tainted his soul, too. But now Jack is ready to go after the things he needs to atone for and to claim for himself. He is a good guy inside, I never questioned his heart, but he went about it all the wrong way. Still, I loved the brooding and angst and tension in this book. When Jack finally has the opportunity to pursue Emery, she does not make it easy for him and rightfully so. It was an entertaining tug of war to watch between them but he refuses to give up and that's exactly the type of guy that Emery needs. I'm really hoping that there will still be more of these characters especially since Ivy didn't actually get her own story although it's very obvious what happens with her in this book. Still, I would love to read it firsthand from her own POV. Great small town series overall.

Jack and Emery's story is FINALLY here, it felt like we've waited a lifetime for this book, and it was amazing.  In all the day dreaming I did about how their love story would play out, none of my storylines lived up to the story Samantha delivered.  She went above, and beyond what I thought I wanted, what I thought she'd give us.  It was an amazing story of sacrifice, love, loss, perseverance, and second chances.

Our shy sweet book store owner held more strength inside of her than anyone knew.  The secrets she kept, the love she gave, and the unconditional support she shows to those she loves.  Emery is by far the strongest character in this series, and it's hidden behind her quiet demeanor.

Jack's story is dark and twisted.  What he endures is beyond what most can take.  What he gives up to keep his secrets takes a toll on his heart and his soul.  I don't think any other woman could have helped him, but Emery.  Her friendship, love, and faith in him is more than anyone in his life has showed him.

This story is beautiful from start to finish, and most definitely worth the wait.

I was waiting for this book since so long. Sad to say this wasn't worth the wait. The time lapse in the end did not make sense to me. I found Jack to be extremely indecisive. I did like Emery a lot. She was smart and with a spine, unlike our hero.
There's one thing that just kept irking me. According to Jack, he stayed away from Emery all these years to protect her...well, how come you think no one saw them multiple times together at the beach, especially if the town is so small that everyone is in everyone's business? It confused me. The story felt a little dragged. I couldn't get my heart in the book.
For anyone who has read the previous books in this series, I think you should read this book to get closure. For anyone who hasn't read this series at all, I suggest read The Jamaica Lane by this author since that book should be experienced by all once in their lifetime.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wieder ein Volltreffer von Samantha Young mit viel Liebe, Emotion und einigen Überraschungen
Reviewed in Germany on August 23, 2020

5.0 out of 5 stars What an emotional rollercoaster

I've followed Samantha Young ever since ODD hit the bookshelves and I've loved everyone of her stories since. Each story is always worth more than one read.. Each of her stories always grips you emotionally and so vividly that you can see yourself right there, watching it with your own eyes. But Jack and Emery (sigh), this wasn't just about 2 ppl coming together. It was about love and laughter, heartache, friendship, trust and family. A family you handpicked by yourself. And Joey, oh my.. that little boy just melts my heart. If I can take anything from this story, Its knowing that if you have a group of friends like this, you can accomplish absolutely anything. Another fantastic 5 star read from one of the world's greatest authors.
