The Uncatchable Earl: A Clean Regency Romance (Christmas in London Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 414 ratings

A widowed Lady, a charming Earl, and a tantalizing bet. Can the uncatchable Earl change his ways and capture Lady Julianna's heart?

Having been widowed for the last three years, Lady Julianna Carsington has come to London for Christmas to seek out good company and enjoyment, while secretly hoping her heart might be stolen away by a worthy gentleman. Lord Wessex, however, is an entirely unsuitable gentleman and as much as he might try to catch her eye, Julianna is determined not to give him even a single glance.

Andrew, the Earl of Wessex, is determined to garner Lady Carsington’s interest. Known by society to be uncatchable given that he has never once considered courtship or even called upon a young lady, a lost bet forces his hand. Instead of flirting and carousing with any lady he pleases, he must now concentrate solely on only one - the widowed Lady Carsington.
With the lights and laughter of Christmas swirling around them both, will Julianna be able to keep herself free from Lord Wessex’ clutches? And what will Andrew do when he begins to realize there is no other lady who can compare to the beautiful Lady Carsington?

The Uncatchable Gentleman is the first book in the Christmas in London series. It is a standalone romance, is clean and wholesome, and suitable for all ages. Get your copy today!

Rose has read her way through countless romances over the years, “borrowing” them from her older sisters, and hiding them from her mother (Mom didn't like the sexy book covers!)

She has a special love for Regency romances and when she began writing, the Regency period was a natural place to start. The ton, the wealthy families, the Season, the dilemmas, and yes, the marriages, have always fascinated her. She loves a happy ever after! Now she is happy to bring this passion to her stories and share it with her readers.

On a personal note, Rose lives in North Carolina, is married, and has a terrier that barks too much. She enjoys taking him for walks to tire him out!

This book was good, but the ending got pretty corny with a lot of mushy dialog between the H and h.

Really, it didn't feel like a real conversation between 2 people. A man would not have gone on and on with all the mushy I love you's etc.

It also seems that they jumped too quickly from attraction to a deep abiding love. They just went around each other that much it seemed. And really people take a little more time to truly change.

Other than that it was a fun story and the writing is well done.

Lady Julianna has been widowed for 3 years and has not been in London during that time. She decides she is ready to go to London at Christmas time for good company. Maybe even find someone to share her life with. Her friends warn her away from an Earl that gets the interests of young ladies and then never dances with them again or makes any effort to see them socially. He does not wish to marry after witnessing his parents marriage. He makes some mistakes in his happy go lucky ways and ends up having to fulfill a bet and spend time only with Lady Julianna. What can happen with this forced proximity? Pick it up and go on a Christmas adventure, is it to true love or not? I do recommend this book.

I liked this plot, and the characters were interesting, though I felt they needed more depth. They seemed to go from one emotional extreme to the other! A tidy happily-ever-after.

Due to the example of his parents, Andrew is against matrimony. He likes flirtations, but as soon as the lady is impressed with him he gives his attention to another lady. Coming during the quiet winter season, Julianna is not seeking a husband. After a convenient marriage followed her first season, Julianna found herself a widow one year later. Her trip to London followed three years of being alone. Now she wanted to renew friendships and enjoy society functions. This is a very good story.

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. It was a clean sweet story. I’m glad the Lady Carsington looked past Lord Wilhelm’s mistakes to realize true love.

Charming Regency tale with a few twists and turns to keep the readers’ interest from start to finish. Julianna and Andrew are not looking for a relationship, but circumstances set them on a different path. I enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Unremarkable classic earl pursues lady for a bet
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 24, 2024
A clean story. A young widow decides to London for the winter having kept herself fairly isolated. She meets an earl who likes to build his ego by flirting with ladies and then moving on. He then has to focus on her as result of a bet.
This is a fairly classic scenario. Earl is a rake not wanting to marry. Then as part of a bet he has to focus on the young widow, finds himself drawn to her, and guess what - she hears about the bet. There are one or two odd bits. Firstly the bet is that the Earl cannot recognise a specific lady. The Earl does seem to not recognise/remember any young lady so not sure why he even took the bet. Then at one point he decides to wander about without a coat etc in the night in the middle of a snow storm. Then why did his friend lie to Lord Dorchester? I could not see why he would and what he gained.
So this is a gentle read following a fairly formulaic story line with characters that were alright but did not develop or inspire me.
