    R. H. Dixon is a horror enthusiast who, when not escaping into the fantastical realms of fiction, lives on the northeast coast of England with her husband and their whippet, Delilah.

    She has been an active member of the Horror Writers Association since 2017. Her novels, novellas and short stories explore the darknesses and weaknesses within the human psyche, while weaving in elements of the supernatural. She loves strong, relatable characters that are flawed and put through their paces.

    As well as reading and writing, she enjoys travelling (particularly wildlife-spotting jaunts), visiting spooky places, taking pictures of stuff with her iPhone, stargazing and drinking red wine.

    What a wickedly surprising treat this collection was! I bought it on a whim and walked away more than satisfied when I finished. This is a brief collection, but the quality of the stories more than make up for the lack in quantity.

    “Skull Crusher” was my favorite. This Halloween set tale was legitimately chilling.

    The doppelgänger tale, “Them and Us,” was another creepy entry.

    “Trouble with the Past” had a great twist, even if it wasn’t totally unexpected.

    The titular story, “The Unfamiliar,” was another entertaining Halloween story, and “The House That Won’t Be Sold” and “The House That Stands Alone” were unique haunted house tales.

    These are the highlights of an overall above average collection, and I’ll definitely be looking forward to more from Dixon.

    If you like a good horror story, with a bit of a twist, I’d highly recommend you check this author out! This book is short, but sweet as it goes..I really loved the short, but straight into it aspect of this book. Highly recommend !
