L.J. Shen has a way with words. She’s able to evoke so many emotions through her detailed and fine-tuned writing style that is becomes effortless to be consumed by the story. While you’re reading, it feels like your eyes are closed as the story takes place around you. You can feel it deep within your soul. I think this is what keeps me coming back for more. Not just the amazing characters she creates or the scenes she drags us into, but the way she tells a story. The Villain is the second novel in Shen’s brand-new series that readers (like me) are raving about. If you enjoy an enemies-to-lovers trope or one that reminds you of the authors former book/character VICSIOUS then you won’t want to miss this captivating read. Not only does Shen give us a novel that will have us gasping for air (for many reasons) but one that hits deep into the emotions. These two absolutely stole my heart. Sure, it took some time to love them TOGETHER (the road was quite bumpy) but it’s the journey that makes it epic. Believe me, you won’t want to miss this one. Shen is a master storyteller.     From the moment Sailor said Persephone’s name in The Hunter and alluded her name to the goddess, I knew I needed a retell. Therefore when the book was announced to be Cillian and Persephone’s story, I was ECSTATIC. The feelings that these two have for one another are so incredibly strong. The only difference is that while one of them wears them on their sleeve, the other buries them in the deepest parts of themselves. The banter that these two had was absolutely hilarious. I loved seeing Kill’s annoyance and Persy’s refusal to back down from getting what she wanted. These two were a slow burn for sure, but it was worth every moment of frustration, anger, and sadness. This is by far one of my favorite stories written by LJ and these two will be living in my mind for a long time to come. I hope to see more of them even if it’s in the background of the next two books.

    Persephone Penrose. I am in love with this character!!! She is now my favorite heroine of LJ’s and one of my all-time favorite heroines in general. She is so pure and has a heart of gold, but also a sass and fierceness that makes her character all the more beautiful. Her determination and her protectiveness for the people she loves were so special to read about.

    Cillian Fitzpatrick, so beautifully broken. I definitely had moments where I wanted to crawl into the pages of the book and slap him out of it, but my frustration with him never lasted too long. My favorite part of his character was witnessing his struggle to identify and release his emotions. His character is so complex and I loved seeing his layers unfold. He definitely became one of my favorite LJ heroes.

    Lastly, I enjoyed the group scenes very much and hope to see more of that dynamic in the upcoming books. Every scene with the men’s group had me laughing hysterically and the scenes with the women’s group were so empowering, and when the two came together? PURE COMEDY!!! I really hope to see more of them all together in the future books and cannot wait to see what is to come for this series.

    Do yourself a favor and read this book! It is a beautiful story with flawed characters whom you are bound to fall in love with.

    LJ never ever disappoints. Her book is always so interesting and never typical. This story is included. This book moves from Hunter Fitzpatrick, whom we met in The Hunter (Boston Belles #1) to his older and colder brother Cillian “Kill” Fitzpatrick. This was not your average story and I wouldn’t know how to exactly classify it. Arranged marriage? Childhood love? Enemies-to-lovers? It was really a combination of it all.

    Cillian is definitely one of my favorite characters from LJ, he’s even more ruthless than Vicious. He really is immune to all feelings and lives life as a business transaction. When Persephone walks into his life, she forces him to start looking at life in other ways.

    Their story, like I said, is not the average love story. Persephone sees Kill as a ticket out of her troubles and her childhood crush, whereas Cillian sees her as a tool to help him move up in business and good for his image. This story develops really nicely and I loved how it unfolds. The heat is there from the beginning but the chemistry really builds throughout the story and is magnetic by the end.

    This book really captures all the heartbreak, anger, and happiness and came together beautifully. Highly recommend and cannot wait for what’s in store for the next Boston belle!

    I don’t even know what to say right now. This was one of my most anticipated books of the year, and it did not let me down! This book was amazing! Leigh knocked it out of the park with this retelling of Hades and Persephone. It was literally impossible to put it down. Everything was so unexpected, kept me on my toes, questioning, feeling everything, and swooning up a storm! Cillian Frances Fitzpatrick... Dare I say he is my new book boyfriend and quite possibly my new favorite Shen hero? He’s broody, unattached, unemotional, and he hides behind this façade, showing the world and others that he simply doesn’t care, is uninterested, and the only thing that matters is Royal Pipelines. But there is SO much more to him than what meets the eye. His walls are built up high and reinforced, but a certain heroine came in and knocked them to the ground. Persephone Penrose is absolutely amazing. She wants to marry for love, have a family, and a happily ever after.     Leigh’s writing, like always, hooked me in from the start. It was poetic, and filled with the kind of humor you normally find in her books. Which brings me to the supporting characters: Absolutely loved them! Hunter was so flipping funny, which we already knew, but I loved all the things that came out of his mouth. We see more of Sam Brennan, which I am SO excited to see what he is all about. The three other Boston Belles were as supportive and understanding as ever, always having Persy’s side. I cannot wait for the final two Belle’s stories… I am SO excited.

    And who, who, who, will be Belle’s Alpha? 🤔

    It was such an amazing book, I sailed through it. Lj Shen writes such amazing and profound characters, so strong and flawed. I think it showed so much more in Cillian than all the others heroes she wrote before, that profound pain and “flaw” that kind of puts a veil on his assholeness and makes it so much more. I was curious to see how the relationship between him and Percy would go, as I had not matched them at first. But god was it perfect!!! If you haven’t read it before, start with The Hunter, you won’t regret it, you have a view of Cillian from the outside that you won’t find in this book, and that makes this story even sweeter!

    If you love angst, pain, and raw passion, then ‘The Villian’ is the read for you. Shen’s writing is utterly captivating, and every time I finish one of her books I feel an overwhelming sense of sadness and enter into a book slump that lasts for weeks. Her words effect me, they reach into the depths of my body and pull so many emotions from me, I laugh, I love and I also can’t help but enjoy seeing her brutally brooding alpha males brought to their knees by some incredibly strong and inspiring heroines.

    Cillian is a dark lord, he is emotionless, savage and known as a villainous monster who has no issues sleeping at night whilst he drills holes in the Arctic. He doesn’t know what it is to feel, and he remains hardened and driven to get his own way in life.

    Persephone is sweet, beautiful and a sucker for a fairytale romance, so like beauty, she cannot but help fall for the beast. There is something about the darkness of Cillian that appeals to her lighthearted nature, and she is completely and utterly infatuated by him.     This book was everything and so much more. I found myself completely and utterly enthralled with Cillian, wanting desperately to read and get to the core of his character. He has a dark secret, a one which was painful to read but equally as important and inspiring, and Shen really captivates you and draws you in. Her stories are so real and vivid, and each character reminds you of a living and breathing human. Her depictions play out in your mind like a film, and enable you to be utterly immersed and addicted.

    I cannot get enough of the Boston Belles, for the bad boy alpha male characters who you love to hate, and I am so incredibly excited to read the rest of this series. Just incredible, and no amount of words could ever justify how good this book is.

    This is the ideal read for those who love angst, raw romance with some hard hitting oomph that will knock you into a book slump for weeks. It is a book that will satiate your thirst for romance whilst equally leave you begging for more. It is perfect as a stand-alone or as part of the series, and is ideal for someone looking to try something new for it will unlock the door to a whole boatload of incredible books for you to get stuck into.

    Or to be more specific , never saw Cillian coming , to be this kind of a character! I loved Kill from the moment i started to read the book , which was quiet late considering i had it since it came out. He is the best as...le Leigh wrote , omg i want to describe hime more but i am afraid of spoilers. And Persi, those who read the Hunter you will not expect her to be this heroine. She and Kill are so perfect together. Now i am waiting for the monster , because Kill and Wolfe are for me my favorite book boyfriends there are in the book world. Well done Leigh

    I really loved his book! A really great love story with a damaged hero, who was saved wth the love of a good woman! Good side characters too. Now I’m going to read Ainsling and Sam’s story. This one’s gonna be good too - I can just tell!
