The Wind Rose (The Moon Singer Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 10 ratings

In this third and final adventure of the Moon Singer trilogy, the prophecy of the Moon Singer is realized. But it all revolves around the answer to one question: Can music actually create and destroy life?

If David Nickerson, whose deafness still eludes treatment, cannot hear it, will he be able to tap into music's power to save the planet from catastrophe? Only if he is able to reunite the three sacred artifacts: the Singer crystal, the Rose Crystal pendant, and the Wind Rose compass.

Their Triune energy is critical if David is to re-harmonize the destructive discordant music created by a vengeful music master bent on manipulating weather systems to bring about climate disasters. The mystical clipper ship Moon Singer is David's transport to the Source of his paranormal abilities, but only through his complete understanding of the Power of Three to Become One can he decipher the cryptic musical codes that have been created for evil purposes.

In unraveling these codes David will come to know his own soul's song, the one that allows his disability to become his greatest gift.

I've just added a new suspense thriller, "A Man's Face," that chronicles an attorney's quest to find the man who killed his mother, and whose life spirals out of control when he encounters the treacherous Ibarra family.

"Before the Boy: The Prequel to The Moon Singer Series will answer all the questions that arise in the original 3 books. It's a chilling prequel to the inspiring series, a paranormal delight as the main character tries to escape the afterlife after she learns that she died too soon! "The Immortal Rose Wyndham: The Beginning" chronicles the Moon Singer series from 1750 France to 21st Century California.

To see my children's books, go to the Barbara Roman Author Page:

"The Prince Who Was A Piccolo" is my latest children's book with an enchanting musical theme about an unhappy prince searching for his true identity.

"Alicia and the Light Bulb People in Star Factory 13." It is an enchanting tale of friendship, courage, and realizing your star potential through the magic of believing! Mystical illustrations by Vladimir Cebu.

Another book, as Barbara Roman, is "Hubert in Heaven," is a delightful children's story, with a Christmas theme, and a message for all of us who are too attached to our hi-tech "toys."

Since childhood, I've been torn between two worlds: writing and singing. It's difficult to serve "two masters," as they say, but I was compelled to do so. When I was not singing, I was writing; when I was not writing, I was singing.

I've learned, for me, that one creative expression nurtures the other. Much of my writing has a musical theme somewhere in the plot, or is the plot. Whether it's in my non-fiction writing about the power of music itself, in picture books and stories and, of course, in writing music and lyrics for songs.

It is natural, therefore, that my trilogy of adventures for young readers, "The Moon Singer" (formerly "The Secrets of the Moon Singer") has its roots in musical theories and metaphors, entwined with the magic and mystery of metaphysical concepts and matters of ethics, faith, compassion, love, and heroism. Book 1 (The Crystal Clipper) and Book 2 (The War Chamber) lay the groundwork for this power of music of the highest order. Book 3 (The Wind Rose) pulls it all together and will, I hope, give readers a complete understanding of the importance of music in our lives and in the world.

On the other side of the spectrum, my suspense novels ("Whatever Became of Sin?" and "A Man's Face") are a departure from a higher consciousness to the mundane world of flawed humans, amoral people committing immoral crimes and eventually paying the price for their transgressions. Penning a thriller sort of grounds me and helps to clear my mind of darker thoughts so I can go back to writing empowering fantasies.

I hope you will delight in their messages just as I was delighted to write them.

The Moon Singer is a magnificent clipper ship and David, who happens to be deaf, has sailed to a mysterious island where he felt strong, loved and powerful enough to slay the Glass Snake and rescue the beautiful Saliana. His ears had heard the rushing sound of waterfalls and the musical chirping of birds. Did he hear or was he dreaming?

The memories of all of those incredible days, from (Book 1 and 2 of the Trilogy) live on in his mind, but now, for some reason, he’s in possession of three ancient relics and it’s not a coincidence. He was chosen, or perhaps he chose his calling with a sub-conscious desire to save his town of Port Avalon, from destruction. A compass, a rose crystal and the Singer all have to unite somehow and he has to figure out how.
I love the way the author weaves science, faith and music together to make it sound believable. Musical frequencies, magical numbers and heavenly visitations set up a special millennial moment when David’s soul codes are to be revealed. The only one confused is David and he has heard it before. Sort of. He’s even willing to have a serious surgical procedure called a cochlear implant, if it will help. “It will all be clear to me in time,” he says, questioning and searching for answers. Sadly, there are “planes of existence most people believe are merely fantasy.”

David, now in possession of the Wind Rose, travels at the helm of the Moon Singer to find his destiny. How can he help his sister Sally? How can he stop the mad scientist friend and foe, Professor Ramirez from going too far? How can he prove himself to his dad, and all those who doubt him because of his hearing? If you enjoy exciting fairy-tales, read the Wind Rose and be inspired.

The Wind Rose (Moon Singer Book 3) is the final book in the series. I hadn't read the previous ones and although you do get the gist of the plot I recommend to others to get the previous two so the story flows from one to the next. However I really enjoyed reading this book especially as I hadn't come across the author before.

In this final instalment the reader meets David again and continues on his journey on the Mystical Clipper Ship Moon Singer which is also David's transport, the source of his paranormal abilities. The series is based around music and surprisingly the hero of the story is deaf and no treatment he tries helps. However not being able to hear a note of the musical power that could save the planet from catastrophe the lingering question is will he be able to tap into this power due to his deafness. The only way this might be remotely possible is if he can reunite the three sacred artefacts the singer crystal, the rose crystal and the wind rose compass.

Although written with a YA audience in mind anyone can read it to realize the underlying meaning behind this book, that will make you look at your own life anew.

I personally wish I would have read the first two books in this series as this is really more of a final chapter. With that said it is a pretty fun book and I think if I would have read the first two I would have been able to get into it easier and understand the characters better than i do! Don't let that stop you from checking this book out though, it may be completely up your alley!!!

Author B. Roman shares that ‘since childhood, I've been torn between two worlds: writing and singing. Now I do both. (While still working a day job!).’ Roman’s gift for expression of her beliefs she wishes to impart to a young adult audience stem for this combination of music and pen. Her singing is evident in her writing and her philosophy is the bride of both gifts – allowing music to assume flight when words fail. She informs us that THE MOON SINGER Trilogy has its roots in musical theories and metaphors, entwined with the magic and mystery of metaphysical concepts and matters of ethics, faith, compassion, love, and heroism.

Though to fully appreciate the concepts of THE WIND ROSE it is important to read the earlier portions of the story. But for the readers sake, those previous books can be quickly condensed as follows: in book 1’ Deaf teen David Nickerson’s life is in crisis. His mother has died in a car crash and his sister Sally, now confined to a wheelchair, has mysteriously disappeared. Desperate to find her, David experiments with sacred crystals and accidentally conjures the supernatural ship, Moon Singer, which transports him through time and space on a fantastic, dangerous journey. The people David encounters all have a connection to him, their lives destined to intertwine. Strangely, in this other world, David finds he can hear for the first time in years. This gift foretells his destiny: to explore the contrast between good and evil and to save a life that means more to him than his own’. And in book 2 – ‘The unwitting hero and captain of the mystical sailing ship, Moon Singer, has yet to learn that his deafness is his greatest gift. This "disability", along with his possession of three sacred artifacts: The Singer Crystal, The Rose Crystal and The Wind Rose Compass, bestow David the power to save the lives of everyone he loves. Yet he feels that all the miracles he brought home on the Moon Singer have dissipated. He's just as deaf as before, his sister's paralysis has returned, and his anguish over his mother's death is stronger than ever. At his mother’s gravesite, David unleashes the power of his crystals and is transported to Coronadus, where he encounters a revered woman who wields the power of life and death and helps David understand his karmic mission. When a cataclysmic event occurs, David discovers that the past, present and future know no boundaries in the unending circle of life, and that he must follow his destiny, wherever it may lead.

In this final book Roman brings all the concepts and story together: ‘The prophecy of the Moon Singer is realized. But it all revolves around the answer to one question: Can music actually create and destroy life? If David, whose deafness still eludes treatment, cannot hear it, will he be able to tap into music's power to save the planet from catastrophe? Only if he is able to reunite the three sacred artifacts: the Singer crystal, the Rose Crystal pendant, and the Wind Rose compass. Their Triune energy is all that David needs to re-harmonize the destructive discordant music created by a vengeful music master. The mystical clipper ship Moon Singer is David's transport to the Source of his paranormal abilities, but only through his complete understanding of the Power of Three to Become One will he manifest his destiny and once again save a life that means more to him than his own. That understanding will come to him when he deciphers the cryptic musical codes that have been created for evil purposes. In unraveling these codes David will come to know his own soul's song, the one that allows his disability to become his greatest gift.’

Symphonic in structure and in mastery of themes and variations, B. Roman has created a tale for young adults that is not only an uplifting tale but also one with philosophical grounds that should encourage all readers to view life anew. Grady Harp, September 16
