The Winds of Gaia - An Alternative History Romance (Part One) (New World Harem Adventures Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 36 ratings

No one in 21st century Europe knows what lies on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, because no ship that's ever crossed the sea, on purpose or otherwise, has ever returned.

Monsters? Savages? Giant, ship-swallowing storms?

And now Sean Devlin, second in line for the Barony of Doral, has decided to take his chances on the open seas with a risky trip to Africa.

But before he embarks, he enjoys a mistaken afternoon dalliance with Evelyn, the servant and property of inventor Bertram Cavendish.

Is there any hope for the misguided love between a gentleman and a slave girl who must see to the needs of any man her master sends her to?

And, with west-blowing gales roaring with increasing frequency off the Sahara, does Sir Devlin have any hope of making it to Africa?

I have always loved books.

For me, that meant I have always wanted to be a writer. In 2013, I made it happen when I discovered the new world of self-publishing.

I love to write – there’s almost nothing I’d rather be doing. I still love reading, but writing is more active and satisfying. I can honestly say I will never stop. After all this time, it’s who I am.

I began my career in one genre, but now I’m exploring others. I will experiment with different pen names and new personas as I go, but I’ll always be the same person, the same writer, who loves the craft and the people who make it possible.

Readers like you.

The book opens with the murder of Christopher Columbus by native Americans (or whatever America is called in the alternate universe.) They have been tipped off to Columbus's arrival by a new God called Meddler, who I assume is the Chekov's gun of the series. Otherwise, why the Columbus story and the mention of Meddler.
There are two intertwined plots with two main characters - Evelyn Cavendish, a slave girl in 21st century England, which is stuck in the later 19th century technology wise. And Sean Devlin, a son of the Baron of Doral who aspires to go to Africa to make his fortune, as many younger brothers did in Victorian England when primogeniture was the rule.
Evelyn is, apparently very intelligent and helps her owners with his inventions. But her prime activity, apparently, is going to the homes or private clubs of aristocrats at her owner's (Bertram Cavendish) behest, to service said aristocrats to obtain favors for her owner. Slaves in England are apparently dressed out on the streets, but they are shackled. And, in some cases, she may be sent on her errands nude.
So, by mistake, she services Sean Devlin and, implausibly, they fall in love...serious love.
Unbeknownst to our characters, on the other side of the Atlantic is another continent(s) and the residents there have developed at least one industrial civilization which is decades or centuries more technologically advanced than Europe.
That's all I will reveal for now, so we don't create spoilers.
This book - Part 1 - is the setup and its very well done. It is 117 pages which introduces the characters and the world they live in. It also sets them up in their separate predicaments to be developed later.
It's a fun book. It appeared on my device at midnight and I finished reading at 2 AM. IOW, the story moves right along. So far, it demonstrates what I consider the strengths of the two writers - well told erotica and excellent character development.
BUY THIS BOOK. It promises to be an outstanding novel.

What a study in power dynamics. Who is the master and who, the slave. Patrimony versus matrimony a contrast in how power is used.
