In the nation’s capital, if someone isn’t scratching your back, they’re stabbing it. Can Spencer recover from a devastating professional loss? What does the future hold for his marriage, and will he ever learn the identity of the person responsible for outing him?
How does Nash Lincoln play into Spencer’s future? Is he more hinderance than help? Is Spencer’s wife, Vanessa, pushing them together? Can Nash help save The Senator?

- Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2024Spencer and Nash were absolutely adorable together. This book was fantastic. I loved the whole dynamic. It is so different from anything I have read before, and I loved that. Anyone that would discount this book because of supposed cheating didn't read enough to understand that was never the case. I loved how Vani could so clearly see the feelings that Nash and Spencer were developing. She truly is a fantastic person. She wanted everyone to have a shot at real happiness and wasn't afraid to make it happen. Spencer wasn't against this so much as he was afraid of change. Nash was fearful of ripping apart a family, and that was understandable. Especially as someone who didn't have the luxury of family growing up. Can't wait for the next book!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2024This was a pretty good read. Senator Spencer Brady doesn't get re-elected after he is outed. He and his wife Vani get drunk and meet Nash who is working two jobs one as a bartender and an escort. Spencer and Vani have been married for 20 years but it's more of a for show because he is gay. I loved how Vani could so clearly see the feelings that Nash and Spencer were developing. Vani wanted them to be happy so she filed for divorce. Nash had a problem with this he felt guilty because Spencer was married and he didn't want to come between them. I was shocked to find out who was behind his outing. I really liked all the characters in this book especially Vani. This was my first time reading this author. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 1, 2024The Senator drops us into a disaster for Spencer Brady in his second term. A tabloid published clandestine photos of him having sex with another man just before the election that would give him his third term.
Sam E. Kraemer's a one-click author for me; her Lonely Heroes Series tells spectacular stories of men who've served their country, remained friends and now work together. The Senator kept me reading non-stop; it's just as exciting as her Lonely Heroes books!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2024Spencer has been outed during his reelection campaign. He loses his seat in the Senate. He also wants to know who outed him. Nash is a bartender/escort in D.C. The host of the party where Spencer and his wife have gotten drunk, asks Nash to take the couple to a room in the hotel discreetly. He stays with them to ensure they are okay. When they wake in the morning, introductions are made and explanations given. Vanessa, Spencer's wife, takes a shine to Nash. She wants to set him up with Spencer. Nash and Spencer are attracted but Spencer is trying not to get in the gossip rags again. Nash worries about his past when he goes along with Vanessa's plans and Spencer's wants. Nash also asks friends of his to follow the tracks of the photo in the papers as well as money that changed hands to out Spencer. Will they find out who was behind the outing? Will Spencer, Nash, and Vanessa get what each wants?
I enjoyed this story. I liked Spencer, Vanessa, and Nash. Spencer and Vanessa have been together so long that they know each other minds, thoughts, and wants. Nash and Vanessa instantaneously like each other. Spencer and Nash are instantly attracted but worried how their pasts will affect the others future. I liked that they thought about the other. I liked also that Vanessa knew them both better than they knew themselves. I appreciated the honesty that Spencer showed when talking to his and Vaness's son, Jay. He then felt that he could open up to them.
When Nash gets the answers to who outed Spencer, he hesitates to tell Spencer. He will do anything not to hurt him. I did like his sensitivity in telling Spencer who did it. I was glad Spencer got his confrontation on the outing, although not the way he expected. Nash was a voice of reason though he was younger.
I look forward to reading more in this series and from this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2024This book had realistic and engaging characters and a realistic storyline that drew me in from the beginning, and had me loathe to put the book down until the finish. There is always scandal in D.C. of one kind or another and Senator Spencer Brady gets his turn when he is caught with his lover and outed after a secret vacation getaway. Embarrassed for himself and his family, he cannot figure out how someone knew where he was, only 4 people were supposed to know. His lover dumps him, his wife of 20 years knew, approved and still stands by him, while he is almost obsessed with finding the culprit. At a party, he and his wife are rescued by Nash, a young man who keeps them from a bad situation and is quickly drawn into the family circle. As Spencer and Vanessa try to lead as normal a life as possible while the fallout of the scandal continues, Nash is a level-headed and supporting piece of the puzzle as Spencer’s investigation to determine if someone in his organization betrayed him, and/or was someone bigger behind a project to cost him the election and destroy his reputation. There are many threads being woven together as information is gathered, old enemies resurface, help comes from unexpected places, the mystery is finally solved, and most importantly, Spencer finds the love of his life in Nash. There was enough action, with twists and turns from unexpected quarters, to hold my interest, make predictions, and learn if I was correct in my deductions. Thoroughly enjoyed the book and the characters, looking forward to the next one in the series.
I received a copy of the book and this is my voluntary review.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2024Spencer is a senator from Virginia who was caught cheating on his wife with a man. His wife encourages him to be happy with Nash, a bartender and escort. A book you think would repel you with cheating, scandal and worst of all, politics turns out to be a lovely romance. Spencer is an honorable, kind man and Nash is not an opportunist but a compassionate realist. It was an enjoyable tour of the underbelly of Washington DC and a look at how life will have its way with all of us. I received a copy of this book through Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest opinion.
