Those Three Little Words (The Agitators Series Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 35,823 ratings

From USA Today and Amazon Charts bestselling author Meghan Quinn comes a brand new romantic comedy about a one-night stand gone completely wrong. Laugh out loud and steamy with a heart-stopping happily ever after.

I knocked up my best friend's sister.

Figured I would get straight to the point because how it happened is a mere snippet of the story I have to tell. The real meat and potatoes is what happened after.

Let's start with how she decided to inform me and Pacey the news . . . together. Imagine that nightmare. I was going into what I thought was a hockey marketing meeting and then BAM! I'm going to be a dad and my best friend/teammate is attempting to imprint my face with his fist.

It wasn't pretty.

Threats were tossed around, friendships were revoked, and then I was marched up to her apartment, suitcases in hand, and forced to live with her so I could take care of her every need. Given how much I've pined for the girl, you would think that wouldn't be a hardship. Wrong.

This is my one shot to win my teammate back. Pacey is the only family I've got, so hooking up with his sister isn't a mistake I can make twice . . . despite the fact that she's pregnant with my child.

But with every mood swing, every pair of pants that doesn't fit right, and every late night run to find the perfect donut, I'm finding it harder and harder not to fall for my best friend's little sister.

Especially when she kisses me...

Very Laugh out Loud
✩3.5 ✦What to Expect✦ • Hockey romance • One night stand • Accidental pregnancy • Best friends’ sister • Laugh out loud moments ✦ Thoughts ✦ This one had me literally laughing out loud so many times. But to be honest, it did become a bit repetitive and towards the end some of the jokes fell flat for me. Penny just felt a little unhinged and was acting a bit too erratic/immature. I did enjoy the hilarious awkwardness between Eli & her at the beginning. Overall, I did enjoy this one. I just wasn’t crazy about Penny and how she acted a lot of the time, and I think it could have been shorter.

WOW! I wasn't sure that I was going to like this smooth-talking player at the start, but I was feeling the swoons in such a MAJOR way by the end. This book is a JOURNEY; a slow tearing down of walls and insecurities. MQ carefully navigates the complexities of a hero who honestly doesn't know what love feels like. I really, really LOVED Eli by the end of this book, and he undergoes an incredible transformation along the way. It's heartwarming and heartbreaking in equal measure, with tense and steamy moments paired with humor and tons of forced proximity. I adored the awkward roommates/parents-to-be dynamic, and this felt so very unique. I've never read a romance quite like it, and that is always a win for me. The more I read, the more I loved it, and I was caught up in my swoony feelings by the end.

The story follows Eli, a pro hockey player who has earned his reputation as a one night stand kind of guy. The thought of commitment and relationships terrifies him, so Eli does everything he can to avoid them. Except... there's one girl he could see himself wanting for more than a night. Unfortunately, she's his best friend/teammate's very off-limits sister, Penny. When Eli and Penny run into each other at a bar on his birthday, Eli decides to be impulsive and give in to the feeling. No one was ever supposed to know that they shared one steamy night together, but when Penny announces that she's pregnant, it's a game-changer. Strong-armed into moving in with Penny and taking care of every pregnant craving, Eli's life undergoes a major overhaul. And... he doesn't hate it.

This easily has more steamy scenes than any book I've read this year, but it's a slow burn at the heart of it - certainly a slow emotional burn. The sexual tension is ratcheted up to new heights, and I loved seeing Eli change and grow throughout the course of the book. He fights his feelings the whole way through, and it should've been too much. But I just loved him. Give the man a hug, he is starving for affection - playboys always seem to fall the hardest, and that is definitely the case here. The situation perfectly suited his backstory, and I loved how the forced proximity required these two to fight through so many situations where they would've otherwise given up. It actually felt like one of MQ's least angsty books as I was reading it, but looking back, the angst is just scattered in a different way. It's one of those books that takes a little while to settle into, but it gets deeper and richer as the story progresses. One of my new favorites from MQ, and that's saying a lot.

Audio note: DUET narration alert! The audio is fantastic, a definite enhancement to an already great story. I loved getting both voices in every chapter, which lended itself perfectly to a story where both characters are in nearly every scene together. While dual narration is fine, duet narration is my favorite and something I seek out in my audiobooks. Here's hoping we get more of them from MQ. Combine that with two excellent narrators, and you're in for a good time. And this will keep you busy for awhile! The runtime is over 14 hours, so it's not a story you'll get through in a workday... nor is it really appropriate for the office, lol. There's a LOT of heat in the back half, so I can't recommend this as a workday listen, but maybe you could listen to the first half in public? Maaaybe. Regardless, it's still one of the best audiobooks I've listened to this year, made even better by one of the best stories I've read in awhile.

This story will make you laugh, break your heart, and put it all back together again.

3rd read, 2nd listen. I read some of the Audible reviews and was surprised at how vocal some of the reviews were about Penny not being likeable - I get it, but... I know she was in a tough spot since her brother was over-protective and she was trying to be successful in her career without him interfering. But I didn't care for how she treated Eli in a lot of the chapters. She really is probably my least favorite fmc. She was actually kind of mean to Eli, and then wrote it off as pranking. My issue with that is, it's bully behavior. "If you don't think it's funny, you have no sense of humor" or "you're too sensitive" - and then mask it all by claiming it's hormones.

Eli on the other hand is one of my favorite Hs ever - I teared up so many times in the 2nd half of the book as he learned to come to terms with not just accepting love, but learning that he could love someone the way he loved Penny. That was one of the issues I had with her - because he SHOWED love constantly, it just took him a while - and honestly, it was a wake-up call both for and from Penny too - when she actually was about to vocalize what love really is, and he finally figured it out. His story, his character, was EVERYTHING in this story for me. I loved him and Penny together. I just thought she was a little OTT too often, especially from mid-story on.

I loved this book so much. The chemistry between Penny and Eli was amazing. The spice was spicing for sure. It was more vanilla but it was still really good! I also love Penny’s character and found her really relatable and refreshing. She’s awkward, loud, emotional and funny. I don’t really get the hate she received in these reviews because I personally loved her. It was never her job to fix all of Eli’s issues and it seems like a lot of the reviews believe she should have babied him which I don’t agree with. She’s a strong and opinionated FMC and even though she didn’t have to, she healed Eli and made him a better person. I do wish we got a little bit more towards the end of the book about how they are doing as first time parents or even another book in the future as a sequel to this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Rom Com!

This was a great rom com. Meghan did an amazing job showcasing what females go through with pregnancy, but also did an amazing job at showing how things can affect a man’s mental health.

This book perfect combination of comedy and plot but also had the ability to pull on the heart strings. I absolutely loved getting to know Eli and Penny. I love the way Meghan also showcased hockey and how mental health can affect hockey players.

This was such a great read. I definitely need more of these men.

I will never tire of reiterating that Meghan Quinn is one of my favourite author and her books never fail to make me roar in laughter.

A sports romantic comedy, it is a sweet, funny and an emotional story of a couple unexpectedly thrown into parenthood, their struggles and how they overcome all that and fall in love. Eli, a sexy hockey player has always found his best friend’s sister Penny very attractive, but has kept his distance from her. On his birthday night, a chance encounter with Penny at a bar leads to them spending the night with each other. She gets pregnant and informs Eli and her brother Pacey about her pregnancy. Eli, nudged by Pacey steps up and goes to live with Penny to take care of her and be by her side. Both of them chartered in an unfamiliar territory, face a lot of hiccups and start getting to know each other. Penny slowly starts developing feelings whereas Eli, haunted by his past is unable to give Penny what she requires the most; commitment. Read this book to know how they work out their fears?

Penny is adorable, funny and full of crazy idiosyncrasies. Pregnancy hormones play havoc on her and she epitomizes what a roller coaster ride being pregnant really is. Her bestie Blakely is her pillar and everyone needs a Blakely in their lives. And her unconditional love for Eli despite him not able to reciprocate is beautiful. Eli is the sweetest and the most swoony hero you have seen. The way he takes care of Penny despite she reducing him to an utterly bewildered and confused mess is funny and heartwarming. His bromance with his gang of guys is delightful. One of the most heartening tale of 2 people getting to know each other, this one is not to be missed.

I love Eli and Penny, the dynamic between the two and the emotional side of this story resonated with me and i will forever have a soft spot for Eli.
I honestly don’t know how the other books are going to top this one but I can’t wait to read them.
