I love a solid horror story and Paul White has crafted one with his novelette, Three Floors Up: An Electric Eclectic Book. Beginning with an unnamed man observing the street outside his third-floor window, the story builds step by step, navigating the recesses of his mind like an alligator-infested swamp. He is a spectator who watches the world outside and the people who move through it; he is alienated from others, and he’s been that way for fifteen years.
In part two he tells of “meeting” Caroline. In his eyes, she is the most beautiful woman he has ever seen. He spies her from his third-floor window during a snowstorm. She is dressed provocatively in very little and collapses into the snow. What follows is the bizarre thought process of someone who is obviously insane.
White has a nifty way of exposing the twisted thoughts of a mentally ill mind. As I read I wondered how far it would go and what Caroline would think when she regained consciousness.
I don’t want to give anything away, so all I will say is this is a very creepy book. Paul White has written a story that makes the reader look at everyone and wondering what goes on in their heads.
I highly recommend this delightfully disturbing book to anyone who enjoys a horror story with strong psychological overtones. But be prepared to sleep with the lights on!

Kind of a British Norman Bates. The unnamed narrator watches the world spin by looking out his window, only getting involved with the "lucky" few. Well-written, puts the reader right in the squalid flat and in his squalid mind.

I didn't know which way this book was going. I was intrigued to know what the young guy was doing as he eaves dropped on people from above.

I hadn't expected this macabre and creepy story and I'm sure you won't either!
