I like the characters in this series and usually the mystery elements are well done. On this outing the exposition was a little disjointed. Hope had to go to Las Vegs because that was part of the clues to the crime, but the encounter with her old college roommate seems just thrown in without furthering the plot. This time Hope withholds evidence and keeps facts and speculations from the police, not to mention a few fibs about her own questioning behaviour,
Then there are the ridiculous risks taken without backup or knowledge of the police. This is not the behaviour that make the police willing to accept your cooperation in solving cases. This seems to be a common problem with armature sleuths. They often suffer from stupid behaviour. At least this is not often a fault of this series which is usually well written and avoids such sloppy plot devices.
I would still recommend the series, this just isn't a stellar example of the authors efforts.

Great story and mystery. The intertwining of characters and the unforeseen actions and parts they played came together in a wonderful mystery solved, one that was not foreseen until the end. Which makes this story a favorite in a great series.

If you like “edge of your seat” mysteries, you’ll love this latest edition of a Hope Herring mystery series. I couldn’t put it down until I finished it. There’s a few paranormal parts to it which I love, of course. I can’t wait for the next book in the series. Hurry up J and Neil.
