    This is a standalone read with a HEA. A young woman travels to South American to try and deal with terrorist to release her brother. They are holding him for ransom and they have told her to tell no one and bring $100,000. She needs help but she doesn't have a clue as to the danger she is going to be facing. I don't think she realized how ruthless these people can be. She does seek out the help of a local hero. Nick is a man known for his ability to negotiate with terrorist in releasing kidnapped victims.

    Nick is an ex-Ranger among other things. He can be a handsome hunk in a tux at a big charity event or he can be in the trenches fighting mercenaries and he always wins. He agrees to help the heroine of the story even though he doesn't fully trust her. But, that is ok because she doesn't trust him either.

    This story is filled with adventure, intrigue, mercenaries, corrupt militaries, CIA, jungles, warfare, etc. It starts off with a mystery and as the story is told the secrets and mysteries pile up. They travel through the jungle fighting the bad guys in an effort to find her brother and to clear his brother of false charges. I really liked this hero. He is plagued with negative events from the time of his birth to today. He has the responsibility of his whole extended family thrust upon him. He feels a great deal of responsibility for them to the extent that his own life is put on whole.

    The story takes you from Washington, D.C. to the jungles in South American and back again. It is a very good read and if you love adventure and mystery, then this is the book for you. I enjoyed it and I definitely recommend it.

    Mary Beth was at this function, shaking with fear, to get Romero to help find her brother, in the Matena jungle. They say he is t the best negotiator, sworn to keep peace. His reply, they are not humans, but animals, and no amount of money would make me do it. You need a mercenary, not me. This was a set back, she needed an expert and that was him. He had a goal to settle could this be the way. A riveting tense plot to the end.

    This story is quite complex, involving a ransom demand, past intrigue which is being revisited in the present and, of course, a love story. Each segment of the story is nicely balanced so that no one part overshadows the others.

    Virginia does a beautiful job of combining all of the various aspects of the story and resolving them in a believable way.

    I highly recommend this book as well as her other book, Against the Wind.

    Mary Beth Williams needs help her brother has been kidnapped. Nick Romero in know to help recover hostages. When he first meets Mary Beth he says no but she will not give up until he helps. When he takes the case he finds out his cousin Daniel and her brother know each and there is a connection between the two. The both of them devolve feelings with each other. What will Nick do when Mary Beth is kidnapped. My first read by this author. I enjoy this book.
