Too Many Faery Princes Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 37 ratings

Happily ever after doesn’t always come quietly. Sometimes it puts up a fight.

Kjartan's brothers are trying to murder him in their quest for the throne of Elfland. Teleporting blind away from an attack lands him, injured and defenceless, in front of a surprisingly handsome human.

Joel's boss has just faked his own death and left the business buried in debt. He badly needs a fairy godmother right now. What he gets is a fugitive elven prince sprawled in his trash bin.

When there aren't enough happy endings to go around, can their delight in each other survive financial ruin, loan sharks and lethal magical siblings?

“The inevitable humor of their situation is genuinely enjoyable, the very honest, raw emotions and steamy chemistry this odd couple discovers makes this book an undeniable success." - RT Book Reviews

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Beecroft's writing style is instantly captivating and is ideally suited to her quirky, romantic fairy tale. The offbeat mash-up of familiar details and realistic locales with fascinating, dangerous aspects of her parallel fantasy world works surprisingly well, with her human hero's art forming an ideal bridge between the two. And while the inevitable humor of their situation is genuinely enjoyable, the very honest, raw emotions and steamy chemistry this odd couple discovers makes this book an undeniable success." - RT Book Reviews

"this light treat is sure to warm readers' hearts." - Publisher's Weekly

"Magical, funny, and absolutely absorbing. Those are the words that spring to mind when asked to describe my feelings after reading
Too Many Fairy Princes by Alex Beecroft. So many things to love about this book." - Joyfully Jay Reviews

"If you've wondered how it would feel to battle a swarm ofgoblins, or to fall gradually in love with a proud elfish prince, read TOO MANY FAIRY PRINCES. By turns it's funny and reckless, and it's always entertaining. The best summing-up I can give it is that it's for Roald Dahl fans who have grown up." - Fresh Fiction

From the Author

When I was writing this fantasy romance, I had just come out of writing a gay romance that was long and grim, and I wanted to relax and enjoy myself with a fantasy adventure that was light and easy to read and hopefully funny too. I've been a fan of elves since I read Tolkien in my childhood, but mine are a bit more like the elves in Terry Pratchett's "Lords and Ladies." When they interact with the human world it isn't distant regret that you feel so much as panic. But put them in Buckingham Palace and have them interact with the Queen and there's a large chance of comedy as well as excitement.

I really enjoyed writing this light-hearted adventure. I hope you enjoy reading it :)
Alex

Alex Beecroft was born in Northern Ireland during the Troubles and grew up in the wild countryside of the Peak District. She studied English and Philosophy before accepting employment with the Crown Court where she worked for a number of years. Now a stay-at-home mum and full time author, Alex lives with her husband and two daughters in a little village near Cambridge and tries to avoid being mistaken for a tourist.

Alex is only intermittently present in the real world. She has lead a Saxon shield wall into battle, toiled as a Georgian kitchen maid, and recently taken up an 800 year old form of English folk dance, but she still hasn’t learned to operate a mobile phone.

Very imaginative and extremely well written! Loved the characters and the almost poetic (at times) styling of the author’s words. Simply exquisite. Loved!! Highly recommend!

I really liked the tone of this book. It changes gracefully depending on the character POV from Kai to Joel. I have to say that I found the change from first to second chapter jarring, to the point that I almost felt that perhaps I’d gotten a book with a huge editing error, but after the setting changed back to Vagar, everything seemed to flow. I don’t think the author could have done anything to change that, I just wasn’t prepared for it. Oth Kai Nd Joel were engaging characters and I think that the author did a good job of highlighting Kai’s alien nature. I also liked the way each species had prejudices about the other that caused culture shock. Joel seemed to be a more static character who allowed Kai to blossom around him. The plot was a little predictable up still fun to follow and the pacing was good. I found few (if any) proofs no errors. I’d be interested in reading more fantasy romance by this author because I think he has a good touch for fantasy.

This was such a fun book. Alex Beecroft is one of my favorite authors and in Too Many Faery Princes she lets her playful side show with a charming story that combines classic fantasy elements with modern-day life in London.

I really enjoyed this. The contrast between Kjartan's world of Faery and Joel's world of struggling to pay the rent and fending off loan sharks was well done.

The description of Kjartan's family, who weren't allowed to touch each other, were brought up without any affection and expected to compete with each other for everything, didn't seem to gel with the youngest son who was open and loving, and Kjartan, who changed eventually, but I put that down to the affection they seemed to have from their servants such as Turburrow, the tree elf, so that was ok.

The description of Kjatan's father, the King, was so creepy - he'd been killed, at his eldest son's instigation, but, having magic available, he hadn't actually died. The final scene where the King gives up his throne stayed with me for a while, it was so well described. And quite horrible.

There were some enjoyable moments - when Kjartan's brother manages to force his way into Joel's world with an army of elves, and Joel goes off to fight them, he gets help in a rather unexpected form.

There's humour and pathos and a HEA. All round good stuff.
