- Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2014TouchStone for Play is the first book in the Story of Us Trilogy by Sydney Jamesson. It is a masterfully crafted story that expertly balances love, lust, romance, and suspense. The novel tells the story of an English grammar school teacher Beth Parker and a powerful CEO Ayden Stone. The intense attraction between the two characters is evident right away in the book and carries throughout the story.
Beth is an intelligent, educated, and beautiful woman with a mind of her own. She articulates and communicates through words and through her eclectic collection of music. She is level-headed and mature, which makes her very real and relatable to me. Ayden is a successful CEO of an international media corporation who is self-assured, assertive, and sexy. What I enjoy most about Ayden is how multi-dimensional he is. Throughout the story, we witness both his powerful CEO self as well as a vulnerable man lost and confused at how to approach his relationship with Beth. Ayden Stone expresses his point of view throughout the story and slowly reveals his character. Ayden is not afraid to show his vulnerability when it comes to Beth and his love for her.
Beth and Ayden each has their own past that complicates the development of their relationship. But what's amazing about the story is watching them help each other resolve and move past their pasts, which often precede or follow hot and steamy sex. The mild BDSM only intensifies the very hot and sexy scenes. But the passion and love they have for each other will melt your heart!
TouchStone for Play also has a villain that always lurks in the dark with a very sinister motive. What special about the novel is how Ms. Jamesson includes this shadowy figure by writing in his POV. She skillfully brings him to life with her descriptive writings and it really chilled my bones when I was reading Dan's thoughts, which really shows how dangerous and crazy Dan Rizler is.
TouchStone for Play is such a compelling and successful story thanks to Ms. Jamesson's lyrical and articulate writing. The story is beautifully written, [sex] scenes are descriptively and beautifully crafted, and the plot is intricately laid. I just really enjoy how the story flows and speaks to me. I can SEE the story play out in front of me, which doesn't happen very often for me. I was swooned by Ayden's charm right away and Sydney has said Henry Cavill was her inspiration for Ayden Stone, so how can you NOT be?! After reading this book, Ayden Stone will be one of your favorite Book Boyfriends! I promise!
This romance/erotica novel captures my attention right from the start, engages me throughout, and leaves me wanting/needing TouchStone for Giving. I highly recommend this book to everyone! And I definitely suggest listening to Beth and Ayden's music along while reading. It will enhance your reading experience! It did for me!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2013We all know that most contemporary romance stories have common elements, and it's often tempting to compare one with another. However, what makes a novel (or a series) truly stand out is how each author builds the story and its characters. The portrayal of motivation and emotion within the characters, as well as the chemistry the author develops between them, should capture the reader within the first few pages. TouchStone for Play, by indie author Sydney Jamesson, captured me in the first few paragraphs and held me until its cliffhanger ending. What a ride.
TouchStone for Play takes place in London, where Elizabeth Parker, a schoolteacher, encounters Ayden Stone, a media mogul, when he is invited to the school as a speaker. Their attraction is immediate, and the relationship takes off like lightening. However, each character is hiding something from the other. For Elizabeth, it's a college trauma that sent her into hiding. For Ayden, it's his driving need to control everything and everyone, with a history of ruthless disregard for other human beings. Ayden takes pride in playing games, in business and in pleasure, viewing his associates as commodities or pawns. Of course, he has had a difficult past that makes him who he is; but the author doesn't focus on that. Instead she brings these two disparate individuals together, then carefully reveals the effects that their secrets have on who they are and how they handle their feelings for each other.
Love and fear are never far apart in TSFP. The love between Ayden and Elizabeth is sudden, deep, passionate and literally life changing for them both. The fear - and the incredible suspense - comes from two sources. One is the villain, Dan, a stalker from the past who methodically formulates a terrifying plan to make Elizabeth his own. Ayden is also more than capable of eliciting fear, because although he is deeply in love with Elizabeth, there is inherent danger that manifests itself in abrupt mood swings, flashes of temper, and a relentless struggle for absolute control.
The love scenes in TSFP are very descriptive and realistic, but are also very tender and powerful. The use of mild BDSM as their love relationship intensifies is incredibly erotic, yet unique because of the qualities of each well-developed character. Their exchange of the dominant & submissive roles reveals not only the strength within Ayden and Elizabeth; but also their willingness to allow themselves to be vulnerable, and to trust each other completely in their most intimate moments. This exchange of power, as beautifully described by Ms. Jamesson, is utterly breath taking.
I found Touchstone for Play to be unique and absolutely riveting. The author's use of two points of view to distinguish the merging story lines is brilliant. The suspense introduced in the story by Dan, the villain, terrified me to the point that occasionally I had to put the book down and walk away. As much as I wanted to keep reading, the sheer terror of that evolving scenario, took me right to the edge of my wits. But each time, I was so captured by the love story that I couldn't stay away. That's powerful writing.
I recommend TSFP without reservation. It reveals the raw talent of an independent, self-published author with incredible potential. I can't wait for the sequels. I'm not sure that three books will be enough Ayden Stone for me.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2017First installment of an intense, erotic romance. Well written, well developed, interesting and engaging characters, and a gripping plot, with some unpredictable twists, which is further developed in books 2 and 3, which are also great reads. Well worth reading if you enjoy this type of novel.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2017I really wanted to like this story. It had a good plot and strong secondary characters, but it was so very predictable, unrealistic and boring. Even with what I'm sure was supposed to be a cliffhanger at the end, I have no desire to download and read the next book. I'm sure I can tell you exactly how it goes without reading it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The start of a series with real potential
I thought I'd give this a go after Sydney Jamesson followed me on Twitter. I try not to have pre-conceived ideas, but I can't help it and was expecting a book that was in a similar vain to many others out there; rich sexy man, quiet inexperienced lady, man is a dominant, lady bows to his every whim. Wrong! Well sort of! Ultimately, it's a love story of how two people can change each other's lives. Yes there are dominant and submissive elements, but we aren't talking paddles and whips here and there are some very surprising character traits...
I would peg Ayden Stone as a cross between Gabriel Emerson and Gideon Cross (and that's no hardship). He's rich, powerful and sexy, has a reputation to go with it and knows what he wants and goes for it. But there is much more to him and once you start to peel back his layers you discover a complex man who you want to love, cuddle and do many other things with. Elizabeth comes across as the quiet studious teacher, happy to blend into her surroundings but she just needs the right person to help her blossom. I liked her very much, she's realistic, strong-willed and full of surprises.
Throughout the book you get to know them and understand them in great detail, although I don't doubt there is much more. The way they use music throughout as a way of expressing their feelings makes you think and brings a lovely element. It's passionate, intimate, sensual, touching and erotic but alongside their journey runs a deeper storyline with potentially dreadful consequences. Dan Rizler made my skin crawl. It's a well-written captivating first offering and I can't wait to see where Sydney takes their story next. Definitely one to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is amazing. With its fairytale feel and its classical structure
OMG...Where to start?
I truly don't know what to say.
This book is amazing. With its fairytale feel and its classical structure. The words...oh my, the words. The way this author writes is insane. She has you feeling like you are in the room with these characters completely apart of their world, (A fly on the wall). She captures you immediately and makes you fall in love with these characters, it is so refreshing. Elizabeth or Beth and Ayden How I love you two.
I also love the story within the story this book offers. Twists and turns keep coming and keep you on the edge of your seat. So suspenseful... So perfect.
The end left my mouth wide open...You just can't end a book like that. But this author did and lucky for me the next book is already out so I dove into that immediately.
I give this book - a fireworks display - massive 5. Thanks for such an amazing book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sydney.Jamesson...'for play'...wonderful!'
TouchStone 'for play' book #1 (The Story of Us) by Sydney Jamesson, is an eloquent and sensitively written book, which exudes quality. It follows the attraction and subsequent relationship of a couple from very different backgrounds, both of whom, harbour personal insecurities from their past. `for play', is a romantic love story, between Ayden and Elizabeth. The powerful, confident, media magnet, Ayden, becomes distracted by affairs the heart; from his organised world, by the unassuming Elizabeth. Elizabeth is a relatively reserved English teacher, who has led a sheltered existence in recent years.
Sensitively written, Ms.Jamesson has utilised her command of language and creative writing, without being overly dramatic, to capture the essence of the imperfections, thoughts and feelings of all of the characters in the book. Ayden and Elizabeth personalities develop during the book capturing their strengths, weaknesses, imperfections and insecurities perfectly for the reader.
The dialogue between the couple is realistic, humane and funny at times. I loved Ayden's ability to self depreciate in his personal life, for all his power in his pubic one.
The humorous thoughts, and insightful observations of Beth, made me laugh out loud several times. In my humble opinion, the pitch of language and dialogue between the characters has been pitched perfectly, and I am looking forward to reading `for giving' book two of the trilogy. Hats off to you Ms.Jamesson. TouchStone for play 2: 1 (The Story of Us Trilogy)

4.0 out of 5 stars Wem's gefällt...
*schmacht*..;)

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesomely unusual and thought provoking series.
This was the most fascinating story. It evoked so many emotions. I laughed, cried, groaned and chewed my lips to bits. The concept was devastating and the story written so well. Rivetting reading indeed. Unusual to the max. Highly recommended series.
