Award winning author, Dawn Brookes lives in Derbyshire, England and holds an MA in Creative Writing with Distinction. She is the author of three cozy mystery series:

The Rachel Prince Mysteries are hugely popular and combine a unique blend of murder, cruising and medicine with a touch of romance. These books are regularly bestsellers across the globe. The first two books are soon to be translated into Japanese.

The Carlos Jacobi series has gained its own readership. Carlos is a PI, who owns an ex-cadaver Springer Spaniel and works alongside Fiona Cook, a troubled, but likeable.

The Lady Marjorie Snellthorpe Mysteries begins with the prequel Death of a Blogger and has grown in popularity since first being published.

Dawn also has a 39 year nursing pedigree and has travelled extensively throughout her life. Nowadays, she loves cruise holidays and says she should do more for research purposes! Dawn brings her passion for cruises, animals and engaging characters along with a love of clean crime into her Rachel Prince & Lady Marjorie series.

The surname of the Rachel Prince protagonist is in honour of her childhood dog, 'Prince', who used to put his head on her knee while she lost herself in books.

Dawn is also author of a series of memoirs. Hurry up Nurse: Memoirs of nurse training in the 1970s, Hurry up Nurse 2: London calling and Hurry up Nurse 3: More adventures in the life of a student nurse. Dawn worked as a hospital nurse, midwife, district nurse and community matron across a thirty-nine year year career. Before turning her hand to writing for a living, she had multiple articles published in professional journals and co-edited a nurse textbook.

She grew up in Leicester where her second and third Carlos Jacobi Books are based, Dawn moved to London and Berkshire but now lives in Derbyshire. Dawn holds a bachelors degree with honours in community health studies, a Masters degree in education as well as her MA in Creative Writing.

Writing across genres, Dawn also writes for children.

Dawn has a passion for nature and loves animals, especially dogs and there has rarely been a time in her life when she hasn't had a dog. Animals will continue to feature in her children's books as she believes caring for animals and nature helps children to become kinder human beings.

Toxic Cruise Cocktail, the latest book in the Rachel Prince Cozy Mystery books series, does not disappoint! I'm a big fan of the this series by Dawn Brookes. I love Ms. Brookes' style of writing, and how she uses twists and turns and side plots that are unique to the story and keeps the reader engaged. There were times I thought I knew who the killer was, but then I wasn't sure. She kept me guessing right up to the end of the book. You can tell she's done her homework and research.

Her descriptions allow you to visualize the people, places and things in a way that does not interrupt the story line, or the reader's train of thought. Ms. Brookes is from Derbyshire, England, and holds an MA in Creative Writing with Distinction. I've learned some new words used in England that I'm not familiar with by just holding the word until on my Kindle to pull up the definition.

I feel like I've gotten to know the characters...their strengths and foibles. I also love the fact that Ms. Brookes can write a story that captivates the reader without a lot of horrific violence, foul language, and character interactions that distract from the story rather than add to an emotional involvement that matters.

Each book of the series can easily stand alone. The characters and their relationships are always referred to and briefly explained in each book which act as a refresher for someone who has already read a previous book, or to make the connections for someone reading her book for the first time. I do think, however, you'll get a better experience by reading the books in order. You can't go wrong with choosing any of the books in this series. They are all wonderful!

Dawn Brookes has done it again with the 13th Rachel Prince mystery! Embarking in Singapore for a cruise through Asia for her parent’s wedding anniversary Rachel solves another murder, this time with husband Carlos in tow. This can be read as a stand alone, but I would highly recommend reading all 13 of the Rachel Prince mysteries, especially if you love cruising like I do🛳️

As always, a great read and, as usual, I failed to identify who-dunnit. I really enjoyed this story and it was left on a bit of a cliff hanger so I can hardly wait for the next one.
