Review
The worst thing that happens to us is never the last thing that happens to us. David and Donna Lane become the voice of creative regeneration and, through the power of story, they rekindle the embers of new life amongst people who become hopeless bewildered by deep, inexplicable loss and by tragedies that have left them feeling abandoned and alone. In the final analysis, every person's life turns out to be a story. The telling and retelling, the hearing and rehearing of story awakens within us that inner imagination that ignites the flames of hope where only sadness and disappointment have brought us down. Through story, they teach us that every ending is the embryo of new beginnings, if only we have the courage to mount the wings of angels and live forward toward the light.
A practical manual for brief intervention: This manual provides counselors and other clinicians with practical steps on how to use narrative therapy with groups. User friendly and culturally relevant. Highly recommend!
About the Author
Dr. Donna E. Lane is an award-winning author, professor of Counseling at Mercer University, and a Christian Counselor in private practice since 1993. Along with her husband, Dr. David Lane, she developed a program for individuals suffering through trauma, initially used in Haiti following the 2010 earthquake. She and David also brought the program to Newtown, CT, following the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School, leading training workshops for pastors and community workers to learn how to lead the program in their community. From those experiences, the Lanes co-wrote Trauma Narrative Treatment, a training program for individuals working with trauma victims, which has been used nationally and internationally, and Gold Stone, the children's book for all ages which accompanies Trauma Narrative Treatment.

Her 46 years of experience in this field have provided her with insights which she seamlessly weaves into her writing, delving into the complexities of relationships and the depths of the human heart.
With a boundless imagination, a fervent devotion to Jesus, a love for history, and a fascination with time, she crafts stories that resonate deeply with readers, offering the opportunity to embark on unforgettable journeys to other worlds, across time, and into space.
A devoted wife of 44 years and mother of three, she now cherishes her role as a grandmother and mom to her new puppy, a little white furball named Rosie Cotton.
Dr. David Lane is an accomplished and respected leader in the world of counseling and marriage and family therapy, who trades his serious counselor hat for a whimsical pen to create captivating children’s tales. With a Ph.D. in Counseling and a trove of experience that spans over four decades, Dr. Lane is no stranger to the intricacies of the human psyche. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, a Nationally Board Certified Counselor, a clinical member of AAMFT, and an approved professional counseling supervisor.
But wait, don’t let the impressive credentials fool you into thinking he’s all business! Beneath the layers of scholarly accolades lies a storyteller extraordinaire, ready to whisk young readers away on amazing adventures. When he’s not decoding the complexities of trauma recovery, he’s crafting tales that unravel the mysteries of bedtime monsters or explore the fantastical realms of a child’s imagination.
His books have won numerous awards, including Selah Awards 2nd place, Feathered Quill Awards finalist, American Fiction Awards finalist, BookFest Awards Gold Medal, Silver Medal, and Honorable Mention, Writer's Digest Award Honorable Mention, Children's Book International Award finalist, and Pinnacle Achievement Book Awards Gold Medalist.
In 2018, the LPCA recognized his outstanding contributions with the Linda Painter Service Award and the prestigious John C. Burns Lifetime Achievement Award in Counseling. And in 2021, the Georgia governor tapped him to serve on the Composite Board (Licensing Board) for Professional Counselors, Social Workers, and Marriage and Family Therapists.
So, whether he’s delving into the depths of trauma recovery or spinning enchanting yarns for the little ones, Dr. David Lane is your go-to for both serious counseling matters and the not-so-serious adventures between the pages of a children’s book.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2022Format: PaperbackThis Model is amazing. If you’re looking for a model to incorporate into your clinical trauma work, then this is a great start. I used this model on a mission trip to Rwanda and it had really great results even with the language barrier. I love it so much that I will be incorporating it into my private practice setting. It is very easy to use and designed for every level whether new to trauma work or experienced. It is also adaptive to various cultural backgrounds. I can’t recommend enough.
