Trauma Narrative Treatment: A Trauma Recovery Model for Groups Kindle Edition

4.8 out of 5 stars 12 ratings

TRAUMA NARRATIVE TREATMENT is an evidence-based group narrative therapy approach using a wide range of elements from trauma research, including linguistic representation, externalization, reauthoring, body work, mindfulness, relaxation techniques, art, music, and movement toward the integration of traumatic memories. The six-session model addresses the variety of issues resulting from trauma, such as the loss of a sense of self, fragmentation of memories, feelings of shame and self-blame, rage, feelings of powerlessness, loss of agency, dissociation, grief, loss, compromised social functioning, and spiritual disengagement. The model has been used world-wide, including in Haiti, Rwanda, New Zealand, the United States, the Middle East, Malaysia, Vietnam, Costa Rica, Cambodia, the Dominican Republic, and more.

Review

The worst thing that happens to us is never the last thing that happens to us. David and Donna Lane become the voice of creative regeneration and, through the power of story, they rekindle the embers of new life amongst people who become hopeless bewildered by deep, inexplicable loss and by tragedies that have left them feeling abandoned and alone. In the final analysis, every person's life turns out to be a story. The telling and retelling, the hearing and rehearing of story awakens within us that inner imagination that ignites the flames of hope where only sadness and disappointment have brought us down. Through story, they teach us that every ending is the embryo of new beginnings, if only we have the courage to mount the wings of angels and live forward toward the light.

A practical manual for brief intervention: This manual provides counselors and other clinicians with practical steps on how to use narrative therapy with groups. User friendly and culturally relevant. Highly recommend!

This Model is amazing. If you’re looking for a model to incorporate into your clinical trauma work, then this is a great start. I used this model on a mission trip to Rwanda and it had really great results even with the language barrier. I love it so much that I will be incorporating it into my private practice setting. It is very easy to use and designed for every level whether new to trauma work or experienced. It is also adaptive to various cultural backgrounds. I can’t recommend enough.
