- Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAll up a sweet pandemic story, and I enjoyed reading it. This novella, however, had more of an impact that I had expected. The emotions at the beginning of the story as the details of the break up are revealed, and the hurt between the two characters felt a little too close to home. But from there it only got better, and I couldn't help but hope for the best for the two of them. Definitely a worthwhile read set in a turbulent time that we all had to go through. But, perhaps, some events can work out for the better.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseA sweet romance book. When the pandemic hits Caitlin has nowhere to go. Flight cancelled and split with her girlfriend two months prior. Hope see can at least stay with ex Dot. Dot a sweet and caring person lets her stay. As they are in lock down they have learned things about their self that need some changes. They make it work like a getaway every night. She goes to work with Dot and see the gardens for the first time. She is willing to make it work again if Dot will just give her a second chance
- Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is a short story that is unusually strong because while the author set two women as her tent poles, the same story would work with men taking their place, or even one male and one female doing the job-- without regard to if it was a female leaving or a male leaving, this was a story about the effects of a pandemic and the crushing weight it puts on the people trapped under the restrictions.
If you check history you will find that as a pandemic eases other violence increases, be it siblings, parents fighting each other, or parents and children going to war, and doing stupid things. Here the author used that historic basis to open up how "we" get along with "each other" so the story works just as well in any of the cast format for the story.
Is it good? Well, it is very, very unusual, and I was not expecting it to be that good, but it really earned the five stars. It is seldom done well, and part of doing it well is not making it too slick or two easy for the reader, but forcing the reader to confront the inner question of "what would I do in this kind of situation?"
Worth the read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Brave heart versus surrender in pandemic times
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseCaitlin leaves Dot just like that because an interesting job offer has come up far away from home.
But then the lockdown hits and Caitlin suddenly finds herself without a place to stay and a job. What could be better than asking her ex for temporary asylum?
Of course, the two get closer during these terrible times and Caitlin only now seems to really get to know and understand Dot.
Will this kind of love have a chance after the lockdown, when all options are open to Caitlin again?
We'll probably never know.

4.0 out of 5 stars Short. Sweet. Topical.
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseDot and Caitlin are still hurting from a two-month-old breakup and now they're stuck together in Dot's UK flat in lockdown. What will happen?
This was a fun read, preferable by far to finding a Saturday night romcom on Netflix. I need to read more from Clare Lydon.
Available free in all eBook formats. Definitely worth grabbing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb short story from Clare
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAbsolutely loved this story, it was emotional and showed the situation from the pandemic and just how much the pandemic has taught a lot of people things including appreciation of the things and the people around us. I find no fault in this book and was a wonderful quick read. Who wouldn't enjoy a lydon book is my question, for a shorter story Clare pulled out all the stops.
