Twisted Bond (The Holly Woods Files Mysteries Book One) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 2,485 ratings

"I’m an Italian-Texan woman in a family full of cops. I’m passionate and shoot before I think. You only f*ck with me if you’re stupid."

Photograph cheating spouses. Hand over the evidence. Cash my check.

That was my plan when I returned home to Holly Woods, Texas, and became a private investigator.

Finding the dead body in my dumpster? Yeah… Given the choice, I think I would have opted out of that little discovery, especially since all three of my brothers are cops. And my Italian grandmother is sure the reason I’m single is because of my job.

Of course, my connection to the victim is entirely coincidental. Until I’m hired by her husband to investigate her murder and shoved bang-smack into the path of Detective Drake Nash. My nemesis, a persistent pain in my ass, and one hell of a sexy son of a bitch.

Shame he still holds a grudge from that time I shot him in the foot twelve years ago, or we could have something. In another life.

So now all I have to do is avoid my nonna’s blind dates, try not to blackmail my brothers into giving me confidential police files, and absolutely do not point my gun at Drake Nash. Or kiss him. Or jump his bones.

All while I hunt down the killer.

Sounds totally simple—until a second body proves that sometimes things that start as coincidences don’t always end up that way…

New York Times & USA Today bestselling author, Emma Hart, has written more than seventy romance novels in the last decade. She loves writing snarky, swoony romcoms with a side of chaos, occasionally venturing into romantic mysteries. Which are exactly the same as her romcoms, just with a dead body or two. That’s the reason for her questionable Internet history—at least that’s the story she’s sticking to.

She lives on a smallholding in North Wales with her husband and their two children, a clowder of very fluffy cats, one giant German Shepherd, and an undisclosed number of chickens and ducks. Don’t ask her to count them. She will not, thank you very much.

I know I'll want the rest of the series on my TBR soon because I'm loving this dynamic!
Murder, romance, and sassy attitude. I've been reading Emma Hart's rom-coms for almost a year now and was excited to see one of her older series get a facelift. But since reading Twisted Bond I'm now HOOKED on Hart's ability to tell a murder mystery that keeps on giving. Meet Noelle Bond; former cop turned private investigator in her hometown, she's quickly making a name for herself in the world of catching adulterers. It's a quiet PI life, until a body ends up in her company's dumpster. And it just so happens to be related to one of her previous cases and she's ow entwined with the case more than she wanted to be. Add in the the decedent's husband also hired her to work alongside the police and it causes for some tough territorial investigating. You would think a PI would work well with the police, but Noelle has a hate-love relationship with one Detective Drake Nash. Dark, mysterious, and rude as can be...and he's also hot as Hades. Begrudgingly these two have to end up working together when a SECOND body ends up at Noelle's feet. It looks like someone is trying to pin murders on our PI but digging in to her past cases. Drake, while fighting his own attraction to Noelle, has to decide if she's a suspect or an ally to the department. But as much as he'd like to throw her in handcuffs (oh yeah!) he has to work with her and not against her to stop the murders happening in their town. This is definitely a romance steeped in mystery. While Drake and Noelle fight their attraction the entire book #slowburn, they focus more on solving the case than finding their next fix. I felt like it was the perfect combination of fiction/murder mystery with the right amount of romance. Not too much to drown out either of the main character's goals, but enough to make you swoon and hope the two will just bone already LOL. I know I'll want the rest of the series on my TBR soon because I'm loving this dynamic!

I adored this story!! Twisted Bond had me on the edge of my seat throughout this book trying to figure out who was killing these people and causing all the ruckus in Holly Woods.

Noelle Bond is one hell of a female lead character, and I kind of want to be her when I grow up. She doesn't take crap from anyone, and she's definitely someone you want on your team when things go wrong. She has a weakness for cupcakes, and I loved how people could go from her crap list to her good list if they provided her with a cupcake. Granted, they may not stay on the list long, but they had a reprieve from her yelling at them.

Drake Nash... I loved him, I hated him, I wanted to smack him. He is the lead detective on the case that Noelle is also working, and when these two get into a room together, insults will be thrown, obscenities shouted, and a lot of frustration will be felt. He can't stand Noelle, but at the same time, she has definitely gotten under his skin.

When dead bodies start showing up on Noelle's doorstep she's thrown into an investigation to figure out who has gruesomely killed two people involved in previous cases she has investigated. What happens is a ton of twists and turns, that had me guessing throughout most of the book how everything was connected and who was responsible. I had my suspicions and was right on one of them, but the person responsible wasn't high on the list of people I thought responsible.

I loved how this book was about finding out who was responsible for these killings, yet still we got to see Noelle and Drake and feel all the sexual frustration and tension between them. This book doesn't focus on the love story, it's more of a secondary story throughout the book, and that was a refreshing.

The characters in this book, and there are a lot, provide so much to the story line, and aren't just irrelevant characters. Each one of them bring something to this story and I can't wait to get more of them in the next book. I loved Noelle's grandma, her brothers were amazing, and Becka is such an amazing best friend. Throw in Noelle's employees, and you have a huge set of characters that you can't help but fall in love with.

Even with the suspense of this book, there were some parts of this book that had me laughing out loud. Noelle's mouth and the things that come out of it, are hilarious, and Nanna... OMG I will happily take her as my grandma (since I'm married and don't have to worry about her trying to find me a husband everywhere she goes).

This book is unlike any of the other books Emma Hart has written, and I was a little weary I must admit about reading this, but once I started, I was unable to put this book down. She knocked this book out of the park and I can't wait for more books in the Holly Woods Files Series! The story is beautifully written, the suspense in this book will keep you on the edge of your seat, and you will fall in love with all of the characters. I highly recommend this book to everyone, it is definitely high up on my list of favorite books of 2015!

Like strong willed, mouthy heroines? Well Noelle Bond is your girl. She is a Texan with Italian blood raised in a family of cops.

This series follows Private Investigator Noelle Bond and Police Detective Drake Nash through out the series. Their relationship advancement is on going throughout each book but the murder/murders that are investigated are solved by end of that book. Background on Noelle and Drake's past both personal and professional is also slowly revealed throughout each book.

In this book we meet Noelle and her family which consists of Mom and retired cop Dad, 3 brothers – all cops and a crazy Italian grandma called Nonna. Along with her family there is also the guys and gals that work for Noelle at her PI firm.

When a dead body is discovered in the dumpster outside Noelle's firm, childhood friend and the bain of Noelle existence, Detective Drake Nash is assigned the case. These two HATE each other and their insults at each other are pretty funny. Even though Noelle is no longer a cop she has great instincts and is a perfect human lie detector so she is always involved helping the police out one way or another.

During the murder investigation Noelle and Nash all but threaten to kill the other but underneath all that “hate” is a burning attraction that sizzles once they finally give in.

As I said earlier the relationship between Noelle and Nash along with two of Noelle's brothers progress over the 7 books in the series (which are all out now as this is an older series). No cliffy's though.. If your looking for a series to binge on that is full of humor, a tough heroine, a overprotective alpha detective and a crazy Italian family give this series a try..

I've read a couple of books by Emma Hart, and I always love them. While normally I hold off on saying someone is one of my favorite authors until I have read a significant portion of their catalog, without a doubt I can say Emma Hart is one of my favorites, her storytelling just works for me, and her writing style just pulls me in no matter what the story is about. So when I saw some information come my way about Twisted Bond I knew I had to read this book and ASAP.

So I finally got around to reading it last night (yay) and I foolishly thought, I'll just read a few chapters... yeah that didn't work. I read the whole thing in one sitting. I normally can't put Emma's books down when I start them, but add in the whole mystery element to this book and I should have known I wouldn't be able to put this book down. As always the writing was awesome, that goes without saying.

So Noelle is our heroine in the book, and the whole thing is told from her POV. I kind of love this chick. She carries Chuck Taylors in her purse (secret confession, I do too, I have a hot pink pair in my purse right now), she's from Texas so she says Y'all as much as I do, and the girl has a stellar cupcake habit that I wish I had. So Noelle comes from a family of cops, and she herself used to be one in Dallas until something went wrong and she quit, ending up back in Holly Woods, Texas and starting her on P.I. firm. I wish I got more of the backstory from Dallas (but hey it's the first book in the series maybe we will find out more later). I love that Noelle is close to her family, even when they are crazy. I love that she can take care of herself, although she might have too many guns, but then again given her life in this book maybe not. She's got a great sense of humor and she's super sassy, needless to say I loved her.

Our hero is Drake Nash, the cop assigned to the figure out who murdered the chick in the dumpster behind Noelle's office. Needless to say, they clash, a lot. It's kind hot actually the way they fight with each other. It's like a constant push pull between them. He's very demanding, constantly threatening to arrest Noelle, and well did I mention he is hot. There is a lot more that I could say about Drake but I recommend you read the book to learn more about him.

There are some great secondary characters in this book, from the best friend who enables Noelle's cupcake addiction, the crazy grandma who is obsessed with finding her granddaughter a husband no matter how much Noelle tells her to knock it off. I love the people she works with and the people she is related to. The mystery behind who the killer is just worked for me, I was intrigued from beginning to end. I would easily recommend this book to anyone who likes a murder mystery with a romantic comedy twist. Check it out.

This was a complete waste of my time.
First of all, the "heroin" , Noelle, is insufferable. I cannot think of any positive characteristic... She is selfish, ego-centric, awfully full of herself and extremely stuck-up. The obsession she has with her guns and her need to state "how good" she is with them is infuriating... I'm sure her infatuation withncupcakes is meant to be disarming, and make her look quirky, but it only makes her childish and petulant... Several times in the story, there is a reference to something that happened when Noelle was with the Dallas PD and that made her quit her job and move back to her home town, and it also seems to be The reason why she decides to use herself as boat, but it is never explained what actually happened... The hero, Drake, isn't any better. He just makes degrading remarks to Noelle... I don't know how many times they say they hate each other, but not once is there an undertone of suppressed romantic feelings... Not even when at the end of the story he asks her out on a date...
Noelle is part Italian and her grandmother, Nina, keeps trying to get her to settle down and "have-a babies " which is all she ever does... that and fighting with her daughter-in-law... Not the most inspiring character either...
Not to mention the -a's used liberally and indiscriminately to mimic her Italian accent...
And let's not forget the grammar errors. If there is a single page in this book that does not have a grammar error on it, I would be surprised. All in all, very unsatisfying....

Despite a strong female lead and some sharp dialogue the book falls down on the numerous clichés, including the inevitable extreme grand parent. Nothing wrong with that if you haven't already read countless others of the genre. This falls between silly chick lit and a detective novel, the latter lacking in investigative avenues/procedure credibility, the former in comic timing of the absurd. Still, if you are looking for feel good escapism in a reassuring mid American setting with a bit of who d'un it thrill thrown in, this romance has some fast paced dialogue and a plot line that engages despite the predictability.
