5.0 out of 5 stars Very practical and useful tips for both experienced and familiar users of twitter
Very practical and useful tips for both experienced and familiar users of twitter. Teh author takes the guesswork out of this social media and makes it accessible to everyone.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2016Thanks to Ruth Snyder for taking the time to update her Twitter tutorial to allow us the chance to catch up on changes to Twitter, and for first timers to get their feet wet.
While Snyder’s target audience is the writing community, this tutorial will meet the needs of anyone interested in joining Twitter, whether for personal enjoyment, or with other promotion in mind.
What’s the book like? First, Snyder doesn’t assume her readers know the basics, so quick definitions and explanations are tucked into the text. This is appreciated as delving back into a glossary can cause readers to lose their train of thought.
For a tutorial, Snyder’s content is surprisingly readable and interesting for the Twitter newbie. Explanations are clear and concise - perhaps the result of raising five children. Screen shots with arrows pointing to a relevant box make navigation a breeze. I found myself looking forward to trying the next “Your turn!” at the end of each chapter, as I invariably felt successful after meeting each new challenge.
I suggest someone interested in learning how to take part in the Twitter community plan to follow this tutorial over a period of time. Broken up into step-by-step chapters, going slowly will allow the reader to absorb what they’ve tried, and put it into practice.
This book isn’t only for new tweeters, though. Those who are familiar with Twitter will gain from reviewing the Dos and Don’ts of tweets, what goes into a good tweet, and general rules of following and sharing. It’s easy to get into lazy habits, so fine-tuningTwitter activity will serve to enhance the reader’s return for time invested. Moving on in the book, information takes the experienced tweeter to more in-depth understanding of this social media tool. Many will want to leave the later chapters until they’ve had time to get used to the site. Others, though, will appreciate taking their tweeting to a new level.
Twitter Decoded has something for everyone who is interested in using Twitter as part of their social media experience. Definitely worth the investment.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2016This latest book from Ruth L. Snyder is a collection of information featuring Twitter, actually an updated compilation of her two previous books, Learn Twitter: 10 Beginning Steps and Learn Twitter: 10 Intermediate Steps (from the Author’s Social Media Mastery series). It covers the “why” as well as the “how” of Twitter, and does so in an organized and understandable manner.
Beyond the eye-catching cover and title, the format is attractive and easy to follow. I particularly like the bird/key image at the beginning of each chapter.
Chapters are short and focused, including basic instructions as well as “homework” at the end of each section. Topics include pertinent information about Twitter, why the reader should consider setting up a Twitter account and exactly how to do so, how and what and when to Tweet, how to use hashtags, templates, scheduling apps, and link shorteners, etc. The book lists various sites and free apps to make our Twitter experience effective and efficient.
For me, one of the most helpful aspects of Twitter Decoded is the use of examples, visuals and links to the author’s Twitter account. It’s basically a three-step presentation: facts, examples and practice.
The key to understanding and using Twitter, according to the author, is to build relationships. She quotes Michael Hyatt: “It’s not about you; it’s about your followers.” The author presents helpful suggestions on how to streamline the use of Twitter so it doesn’t take over our writing time.
Twitter Decoded is an excellent resource for anyone using social media, but especially for authors who want their work to be available and accessible to their readers. This book offers so many great tips there’s no excuse not to use Twitter. Thank you, Ruth L. Snyder, for this concentrated effort to make our Twitter experience the best it can be.
The ebook will be available September 1, 2016 from Creativity Press.
