A Typical Family Christmas: a gorgeous festive read Kindle Edition
For once, Kate Peters would like a happy, family Christmas; the kind of Christmas seen on the TV. She wants harmony and happiness, smiling, glowing faces, tables groaning with food, carol singing around the tree. She wants love, kindness, and goodwill to all men, especially in her own house.
What she doesn’t want is drama. Absolutely no drama, whatsoever.
But what she gets is three stroppy children, two equally stroppy grandmothers, a husband who can’t manage to change a lightbulb, and Pepe the poodle. It’s no wonder she feels unappreciated, overworked, and ignored.
At the end of her tinsel-coated tether, and with the only Christmas spirit being in the form of a bottle of raspberry gin, Kate decides to leave them to it and see how they manage without her. A quiet little hotel somewhere near the sea, where she can pretend Christmas doesn’t exist, is just the thing she needs.
Isn’t it?

About the author
Liz Davies writes feel-good, light-hearted stories with a hefty dose of romance, a smattering of humour, and a great deal of love.
She’s married to her best friend, has one grown-up daughter, and when she isn’t scribbling away in the notepad she carries with her everywhere (just in case inspiration strikes), you’ll find her searching for that perfect pair of shoes. She loves to cook but isn’t very good at it, and loves to eat - she’s much better at that! Liz also enjoys walking (preferably on the flat), cycling (also on the flat), and lots of sitting around in the garden on warm, sunny days.
She currently lives with her family in Wales, but would ideally love to buy a camper van and travel the world in it.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 28, 2023I loved a heroine who is just an average mom dealing with the Christmas holidays while trying to please her 3 children, husband, mother and mother in law at the same time
- Reviewed in the United States on October 15, 2019A TYPICAL FAMILY CHRISTMAS by Liz Davies is an entertaining story of family life, squabbles and all, and the reality of what can happen when it all gets a little bit too much.
Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, lights twinkling on the tree while a festive movie plays on the TV, laughter, good food, and a feeling of love and content. That's all that Kate Peters hopes for this Christmas. But instead, she has both sets of mothers who hate each other and compete over everything, teenage children who are spoiled and selfish, a husband who cannot make the simplest of decisions when it comes to his family and leaves everything for Kate to sort out, and a dog with an incontinence problem. Merry Christmas! So when Kate overhears something very hurtful it is the last straw and she walks out. Maybe leaving them to look after themselves this Christmas will make them appreciate her a little bit more.
Warm and engaging throughout, A TYPICAL FAMILY CHRISTMAS by Liz Davies is the reality check of family life at Christmas that will entertain you and make you laugh from start to finish. But there is also a more sensitive and serious side to this story showing the pressure that families put themselves under to make everything as perfect as possible all the time and how, in the daily to and fro of life, parents can often forget about taking care of themselves and their relationship with each other.
A TYPICAL FAMILY CHRISTMAS by Liz Davies is a lovely story and I look forward to reading more from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars A not so perfect family Christmas get together
Hilarious. A wonderful book about the dramas of a mother trying to plan the perfect Christmas for her stroppy teenagers, a husband who hides behind his newspaper and warring grannies. I loved this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun read
Probably not a typical family Christmas for most people but Liz Davies has turned what can be a stressful family Christmas into a nightmare. Can see why Kate wanted to run away as if I had her family so would I. A warm tale of families taking each other for granted and taking liberties until someone suddenly isn’t there.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Typial Family?
I would like to think Liz Davies wrote an exagerated picure of a family with elderly grandmothers who were so unlike the real thin. I would like to think the teenage girls aare NEVER like these 2. I would like to think the husband was never this bad and of course the mother NOT as frazz.ed as this one. However I think the story is very close to the truth? BRI.LIANT. Lo ed it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book you can relate to.
I really enjoyed this book. I think a lot of us can relate to a few (possibly a lot) aspects in this story. I like the way it's written. There's a good flow to it. It's easy to follow. There's enough characters. I would recommend this to other book lovers.
