About me. I grew up running the beaches of a barrier island on Florida’s east coast. An island brat, I spent more time climbing weathered oaks and chasing alligators than playing with the dolls my family gave me. I’ve always had stories in me. Some teachers and adults chose to call them lies. But piff, here I am still sharing them. I married a Marine, a man I’d known since I was fourteen and had actually met when I was eleven. I’m fortunate to have lived many places and traveled to the states and countries I didn’t live. Government service over, I moved back to that barrier island and spend time writing contemporary fiction weaving my experiences into my stories. My first books have heroes and heroines in the military or government service. But, I’ve started on a new series of books with collections of short stories.

I’m looking forward to writing more strong heroines and the men they love, and many, many short stories.

Love the fasted paced action and the thrill of bullets flying and the chase and not knowing what's gonna happen. Great book with love and romance in the mix. Be prepared. ..book one left you hanging. You don't find out til the end of this book about book one. Love how the characters from one come into book two. Now on to three.

While I was looking more for a Action/Romance story, this one was more on the Romance. The action takes place up front and for the first half, but then slides into a surprisingly enjoyable older woman/younger guy story. When so many in this genre feature twenty- and thrity-something heroines, it's nice to read one with an "older" character. While her age (she is an admiral) is not disclosed, she does have a pilot daughter (featured in the previous "Under Fire" book). And while the action wrapped up early, I still enjoyed the rest of the read!

Anyrhing Ms Henuber writes is full of suspense and love and this was no exception. It is a real page turner and I dare anyone to put it down before you finish the book

The Admiral by Rita Henuber is a fast-paced romantic suspense book. Ms. Henuber has provided readers with a fairly quick read, perfect for those with limited reading time. If you like kick-ass heroines, this is the book for you. Coast Guard Admiral Gemma Hendrickson spends her downtime flying medical missions in Ecuador. Her mission this time is piloting Dr. Ben Walsh until the plane is shot down by the drug cartel. Gemma and Ben's story is loaded with action, suspense, humor and sizzle. I enjoyed this book from the first word till the last and look forward to reading more from Rita Henuber in the future. The Admiral is book 2 of the Under Fire series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I read a print copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I enjoyed that the heroine in this story was older. That was a big draw for me, as she seemed like a really strong character. Unfortunately, the hero came off as weak and stalkerish. No draw there. The premise of the story was excellent, but it had no follow through.

I had read all the rave reviews and I just had to get this story and read it asap! Now I wonder if we all read the same story? I just shake my head. From the very start of the book, there just isn't any 'flow' to the story. It bumps and jerks along with flat characters and flatter dialog and thoughts. Lots of Thoughts! You don't get to know the characters so you have a hard time caring about what happens to them. The author kept throwing in bits and bobs of information and more people into the mix trying to add to the lack of story. She sets a dangerous situation to add suspense and give the 2 main characters a reason to even speak. It all plods along. The reader is supposed to admire the heroine for all the knowledge she has and what she does and has accomplished. But through it all you keep getting the references on how she runs away. Bad time? Let's bug out. A personal problem? Goom-bye! Excuse me?? We really don't know why, but again by this time, do we care? NO. The hero is a doctor and younger than the heroine. He 'obeys' her commands. They are supposed to be doing good work in the jungles and he's been doing it for years but knows zip on survival or the area or the dangers. You never feel the want, need, admiration, lust, tension, angst? Never. They are rescued by some brave American Seals (God bless them all). But once they are returned to the USA she decides to 'run'. She is supposed to be an Admiral but never seems to serve and who would want to follow or be in the command of a person that 'runs' away? Now he decides to get a back bone and to find her and follow. The last part of the book is like a list of requirements to tie up loose ends, make the book 'long' enough with the required number of words and for the reader to get a love scene and a 'happy happy' ending with more people and other places, descriptions and 'thoughts' of page filler. I have to say I was just glad to turn off my e-reader. I definitely will not be reading anything else by this author and would suggest a major rewrite and editing of this one.

This author writes very strong heroines, which I love. Gemma is no exception. The fact that she is older than usual romance heroines was totally refreshing and her age fit the story perfectly. UF-The Admiral had action scenes that made my pulse race, scenes that made me cry, and yes, scenes that could be label HOT! If you want to read miltary romantic suspense, don't hestitate to buy Under Fire The Admiral. I wish I could post 4.5 stars.
