Until August: A Second-Chance-At-Love, Workplace Romantic Standalone (Love and Chaos) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 1,685 ratings

I fell in love with two men. But I could only keep one of them.

When I met Cruz Vega, it was love at first sight.
He was my forever and always, my port in the storm, my one true love.
Everything was so perfect.
Until a cruel twist of fate robbed us of a future.

Now, I was navigating uncharted territory.
Merely surviving without really living.

Until August Harper.
The hot as hell, tattooed chef swaggered into my restaurant and took over my kitchen.
Then, piece by piece, he claimed my heart, too. That wasn’t enough for him, though. He wanted all of me.

But as everyone knows… when you play with fire, you get burned.
And we are going up in flames.

Until August is a friends-to-lovers, second-chance-at-love, workplace romantic standalone with a guaranteed HEA. This is not a traditional love triangle. While Until August is part of the Love and Chaos series, each book follows a different couple and can be read as a complete standalone.

Oh my heart
If you are looking for a book that will break your heart & put it back together look no further. August is looking for a second chance at life and happens to get a second chance at love with Nicola. Nicola is dealing with loss and being a busy chef and owner of her restaurant. Is August what she needs? This book deals with lost love; spousal loss, single dad, family who doesn’t understand, betrayal, and of course love. Emerys writing was absolutely brilliant and had me sucked in from the beginning. I read this book in 1 day.

"What fools we mere mortals were to fall in love."

    Until August by Emery Rose

Book 3 in the Love and Chaos Trilogy

Emery Rose serves up a full course meal, that fills with satisfaction.

I fell in love with the conclusion to her Love and Chaos trilogy and I have absolutely adored every book of hers I read.

I read book 1, Wilder Love a few years ago and it was one of my favorite books of that year. I'll blame my chaotic mood reader vibes on the reason why I hadn't read Until August, Until now...but it worked out, because absence just made the heart grow fonder for this little pocket of California sun, surf, and second chances.

I love this world, and I was sucked back into all of the gorgeous sunsets, boulevards of beautiful views, and sunsets galore as August and Nicola's journey unfolded.

Until August is a story about heartache and loss. About life's twists when we least expect them. About second chances and redemption, not only in others' eyes, but most importantly in ourselves. It's about forgiveness and finding it in ourselves to be able to love again.

August and Nicola had me smiling and crying. They had me laughing at their tempers and banter. Their cooking had my stomach growing hungry as I devoured this book in less than a day. And the last act of this book had me just sobbing.

Emery's voice and words in her writing convey emotion so well, and the side characters and August's son, Sage, were such incredible pieces to this story, I just felt so fulfilled at the end of it. It was such a wonderful story. A beautiful wrap up to not only August and Nicolas story, but also beautiful Coda's to Remy and Shane, and Dylan and Scarlett's from the first two books in this trilogy.

If you love books that are emotional with all the feels. If you love summer and surf and Cali vibes with glorious food galore. If you adore single Dad's and hot kitchen scenes, and redemption stories about people who are real and bright and jump off the page...please read this trilogy.

I cannot recommend Wilder Love enough, followed by Sweet Chaos. And of course, ending such an amazing time in the Cali Sun with Until August.

This was an amazing story of love, loss, grief and moving on. There are different kinds of loss for August and Nicola. I loved that they had a connection as teenagers and found each other again. Stories with kismet and the 'meant to be' element, always hit me right in the heart. Nicola's struggle with letting go of Cruz was heartbreaking, as was August trying to get back into his son's life. I was hanging on every word of this story. It was beautifully written.

I don’t know what I expected from this book, but I was hooked from the first chapter.

I was timid at first because it sounded like the book contained a love triangle with cheating and while that isn’t exactly untrue, it is not exact true either.

Personally, I love a good fwb that turns into more. Not the break up because one of them realized they have feelings and the reunion is them finally getting together - those I’m not a fan of. But the ones where they both realized they’ve fallen in love and there’s no turning back? Those ones. They stick with you.

I loved August and Nicola. Their relationship made sense - they were 2 pieces of a puzzle that fit together. While I obviously love Cruz, I know the point was to make us fall in love with August and what he can offer to Nic.

This book shocked me. The character development, the families, the menu that had my stomach growling, the grief??? Ohhhh the tears. Yup. Those kept coming.

I felt like this book was unique and I’m excited to read more from Emery Rose. This was my first book of hers and I accidentally picked it up without realizing it was the third in a series.

An emotional roller coaster that had me at the edge of my seat in anticipation of what was to come. First reading about Nicola and Cruz in Sweet Chaos, I fell instantly in love with them. The connection was undeniable and their love was simple and genuine. I couldn’t think of how anything could tear them apart. When I started reading this story, I was in complete shock and heartbroken for Nicola. I could fell her heart shattering and her soul lost and slowly losing pieces of herself.

August was definitely a surprise. His childhood was nothing short of devastation after devastation. He pulled himself out of the cycle he could have went down and made something of himself. But all of that need to prove himself and keep pushing for something more ultimately backfired and he paid the price by losing the ones he loved.

Together, Nic and August were pure fire and had amazing chemistry. But the timing was always off. Trying to get back the life they both lost and put themselves back together was harder than they thought. Unable to deny what they both know wasn’t a good idea, they dived in headfirst.

To be lucky to not only have one love, but two, is something not to take for granted. The fight to be there for the ones you love, realize when you’re being selfish, put others happiness above your own, fallow through on your promises, and learning to love yourself again, shows how much they really mean to you. The effort and dedication to show up and keep your word, means more the material things. The power of having your people, the ones who understand, know what you need, are there for you at your lowest and highest, are ones never to lose.

“Wait. August. How did you remember that?” I called after him. I couldn’t see him and didn’t even know if he’d heard me, but I waited for his answer just the same. Finally, moments later, he responded. “You’re not so easy to forget.” Neither are you, August Harper. Neither are you.”

“Sometimes dreams come true. And sometimes, if you have the means, you have to help others make their dreams come true.”

“Why should I trust you?” “Because I’m not a serial killer?” I stared at him for a few seconds, and then I laughed. I needed to have my head examined.”

“Guilt has never changed the outcome of anything,” he said quietly. “Forgive yourself.”

“Nice pep talk.” I slid my sunglasses down my nose and narrowed my eyes at her. “Why are you being the devil on my shoulder?” “Angels don’t have nearly as much fun.”

“I wanted to touch him. Feel his arms around me. Press my lips against his and breathe him in. I wanted to kiss his throat and run my tongue over his Adam’s apple. Why did I find his throat so sexy? It was right up there with his squared jawline and broad shoulders.”

“But God, we were both such a mess. Two people who had lost too much and couldn’t afford to lose more trying to keep each other afloat. It was a disaster waiting to happen. But if we went down, we’d go down together. There was no way I would let him go.”

“I didn’t know if two broken people could heal each other, but her smile made me believe anything was possible.”

“You’re not used to this, are you?” She sounded amused. “Used to what?” “Someone taking care of you,” she said softly. “It’s okay to fall apart sometimes. You don’t always have to be strong and stoic. You don’t always have to be so in control of everything.”

“It’s only five in the morning.” “Rise and shine, Honey Bun.” He was already out of bed and grabbing clothes from the closet, raring to go. I resented morning people.”

My heart feels full such an emotional rollercoaster and I feel like I’ve lived every part of the ups and downs Nicola and August faced such a complex story. Cruz 💔 my heart breaks when I think of how his story unfolded. I loved that we got a glimpse of Nic and Cruz meeting and falling in love in Dylan and Scarlets book made it all the more heartbreaking to have to let go of their love and life. Beautifully written kudos to Emery Rose these characters are just so raw and deep this is one of my favourite series to keep revisiting 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

The reviews were great. But I expect that from fans of the author.

    The blurb had me curious.
    … So I splurged.

I have been twisted, wrapped, untied, ripped and busted… and beautifully rearranged to see the most poignant, romantic, heartbreakingly gorgeous story get bought to life in black and white.

This is my favourite book to date… like EVER, not just 2023!

I now need to tell every single bibliophile who will listen, about the amazingness of the very talented Emery Rose.

Oh and I need a paperback copy for my forever shelves.

I really enjoyed Nicola and August's story. In fact all 3 couples have great stories and I love that we're not subjected to a load of retrospective gap filling. The questions are naturally revealed as the story progresses so we get plenty of "show" and are not overloaded with "tell". A far nicer way to read a story.
